Myself and two friends spent our last night in Yellowknife doing the Aurora Viewing by Dogsled experience. It was fantastic and I'm so so glad we did it.
When arriving, we began by meeting the dogs. They were all super friendly and so excited to get to meet us. We then got in the sled and went on an approximately 30 minute sled ride over the frozen lake. Above us we could see small wisps of aurora. Taltson did a fantastic job with the sled and dogs. It was an amazing feeling being out alone on the openness of the lake with just the sounds of the dogs feet.
Upon getting back, the dogs were unhooked and happily ran back to their kennels while we went inside the cabin to warm up. This was by far my favorite part of the experience. Taltson's father (I think his name is Scott) is such a lovely person and so full of knowledge and stories from growing up in the North. Conversation never lagged as we learned all about what it was like when dogsledding was the only form of transport. We also heard amazingly heroic stories of Taltson's grandfather winning dogsled races.
And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, Taltson jumped out of his chair with his ears perked up. "The aurora! Get your coats on." He had heard people hooting and hollering outside. We quickly grabbed our things and went out to the lake, and there above us was the most spectacular aurora of our entire visit! It was dancing and glowing above us. We enjoyed its color until it died down, then went back inside and packed up and headed back to our BnB.
I highly recommend booking with Tugah. We did another dogsledding experience while in Yellowknife but it wasn't nearly as wonderful. I appreciate so much the time Taltson and his family put in to making our experience personal and memorable.

The three of us did the traditional dog sledding experience and I can't praise it enough. Scott and Taltson were friendly and they can answer any question about the dogs and life in the north. Doggies are very excited because Scott and Taltson never overworked them. They are called by their names. Scott said they want to keep it small to make the experience personal and authentic and I couldn't agree more. The homemade bread and jam were delicious and the hot chocolate was the best I've tasted in Yellowknife. Scott also took his time to tell us stories, show us photos and other memorabilia from the old days. Highly recommended!

We had a truly wonderful time with this family who really makes sure you have a fantastic time dogsledding. Taltson met us when we arrived and his father join shortly after. We warmed in a small cabin while they brought the dogs out. We were able to pet them all we wanted and then it was time to go sledding. The sled was very comfortable and even though it was -30 Fahrenheit, we were warm and comfortable. They put down coats and blankets over our legs to keep us warm. The dogs clearly had fun pulling us along the beautiful route across the lake for about 1/2 hour. Then back for bannock, hot chocolate and stories. The four of us were the only ones there so we had individual attention and were well cared for. This is a gem! I highly recommend it!

Such a fun experience meeting the dogs, dog sledding on Kam Lake, and enjoying the heated, cozy log cabin after the ride. Taltson and his family are so kind and enjoyable to visit with. We learned a lot about the dogs and the importance of dog sledding in the north. Highly recommend this tour to visitors of Yellowknife and locals too!

Our 5 day visit from Toronto to Yellowknife with my husband and friends was absolutely phenomenal!
From the get go Wynter and her family were extremely knowledgeable and supportive. We had numerous discussions and questions answered before our arrival and they were pleasant, informative and helpful.
We were a group of 7 and went in two separate rides. It was such an amazing experience and I literally fell in love with all the dogs especially siblings Inca and Indy. The dogs are well cared for and literally cheer each other on to be picked for their turn to run. They’re also very gentle and friendly.
Afterwards we had tea and Bannock (traditional indigenous quick bread) and River’s homemade maple honey butter was delicious!
Wynter’s dad Everett shared generational stories of his father and grandparents mushing and even showed us some of their trophies and handmade indigenous clothing and trap catch.
All the staff were inviting and felt like family! Dale and his wolf dog Dude included.
Would definitely recommend Tugah and this experience if you want an authentic dog sledding experience.
Thank You, Mahsi Cho, Miigwetch

Scott the owner is AWSOME. This is a native owned and operated company. Nothing fancy but if you want a legit dog sled experience this family delivers. They run a circuit around Kam Lake(adjacent). Looks like they are gearing up to do other programs also. Ask Scott to tell you about the father and uncles dog race history. The son and daughter help out and take you around the lake and deliver you back to hot chocolate and bannock in the rustic cabin.

Cannot recommend this tour company highly enough. It is run by a family, 3rd generation taking the tours. Summer and River (Hopefully I have remembered their names correctly) are just lovely and so knowledgeable and happy to share their knowledge about dog sledding and the local area. They are brother and sister, and actually still do dog sled racing. The dogs are looked after very well, they are all healthy and cute. The sled ride is on a frozen lake, not overly long but all that you need. And afterwards you get a warm hot chocolate and home baked bread in a gorgeous little log cabin. And Summer and River have animal furs to look at and feel and also have some gorgeous hand made items made by their grandmother to look at from animal fur, with gorgeous beading. It is a very short cab ride from town, when you get to address go towards the lake and look for the log cabin. Only recommendation for tour operators is it would be helpful to put up a couple more signs from the road to direct people to the log cabin as lots of trailers at the entrance. Great experience and fantastic operators!
Definitely if you want to go dog sledding in Yellowknife go with this company 🤩👍

The kind family at Tugah helped make my dog sledding dreams come true. Our musher, Winter, was so friendly and patient with all of our questions about the team and her family. It was so fun to meet the dogs and help harness a few of them! The dogs were so friendly, you could tell they lived to pull and also to meet new people! The hot drinks, bannock, and Metis butter in the cozy cabin afterwards was the icing on the cake of such a magical experience. They had great stories to tell and made us feel like family - not something you can say about every tourist experience! I only wish we could have been in the sled twice as long because it was so exhilarating.

Tugah was everything we hoped for and more! Wynter and River were fantastic guides and really made it special - I will never forget the experience of speeding along the frozen lake in a cozy sled. The dogs were so friendly and clearly well cared for. Afterwards we got to warm up in a beautiful cabin and listen to Scott's incredible stories. I will definitely book again if we come back to Yellowknife, if I could do this every day I would!

I highly recommend you take a tour with this family operation. The dogs are obviously well cared for and happy doing what they do. Taltson knew every dog by name and shared little insights to their personalities. The run around the lake was incredible. I’d definitely do this again!

There seems to be a $125 ride and a $160 tour and ride but I can't tell the difference between the two. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I booked directly with Tugah and paid $125 per adult for a 1 hour event, which consisted of arriving, meeting the dogs and Taltson the musher, a 25 minute ride on the frozen lake in the sled, then thawing out in the cabin with hot chocolate whilst Tatlson's Dad told us about their history in the region. I don't know what the $160 deal is, but what we got for $125 was great value and more thna enough for us.
