Close to the Explorer Hotel and quite a short walk so ideal opportunity to get fresh air and exercise without too much effort. Very pretty, we were there in fall so it was warm but without bugs. Lots of photo opportunities

A short trail of about 3 kl. Very well marked and an easy hike. Only one area was a bit more challenging but no hiking boots are required. Lots of bird species to see

Right behind the Explorer Hotel is a small lake with a walking trail just a block away from downtown Yellowknife. There are lots of walking/hiking trials around the city and they are all beautiful. This is one of them. About a 30 min walk with well groomed trails (no strollers as some sections are scrambling over rocks) for the most... More

This trail circles the lake. You are walking on natural surfaces with times traveling over rock out crops which is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. No washroom facilities.

This is a beautiful trail which goes around Niven Lake. You can walk part of it or all of it. It gave me a perspective of the natural beauty of Yellowknife. Along the walk there is a playground and benches. I highly recommend taking some time to walk this path. The path is level and an easy walk.

I only walked on part of the trail but if you are into long walking trails I would say this is very good. I enjoyed just looking at the water and watching a guy para sail then land and haul it in to shore. That was entertaining..

It is only two kilometers long but this very well kept trail is good for a stroll and to see some of the smaller wildlife

I was here during the May warm spell and this well maintained gravel trail with over water boardwalk bridges and over northern rock near neighbouring residential areas was a great break from business meetings. Out the back door of the Explorer hotel I throughly enjoyed my 25 minute stroll daily. And the birds...amazing! Really enjoyed it! A bit of a... More

Hoped to see a few birds, but too not many around in February. Easy, quiet walk and likely to run into some friendly local folk.

The whole idea around this trail is to view nature, but I liked looking at the architecture of the houses along the lake as well. It was interesting to see how some had been built to fit into the rock and also how some had planted "rock gardens" behind their houses.
