John and Chandra are fantastic hosts and guides. While my wife and I had both fished before, neither of us had ever tackled anything nearly as ambitious as Giant Bluefin Tuna. Our day on the boat was an amazing adventure. Chandra was wonderful instructor on the fine art of fighting an 800 lb fish for an hour. And John put us on fish all day and was exceptional driving the boat to help land the catch. The hospitality was A+, Chandra's food was great and the beer was ice cold. Couldn't ask for a better day - thrilling and exhausting. Highly recommend.

We went out with the Gavins in August, right at the start of the season. They clearly went above and beyond to make sure we had a successful trip. The boat is comfortable, their hospitality amazing and catching a bluefin tuna - a priceless experience that they made happen. We cannot thank them enough for the wonderful and memorable experience we had! Until next time!

We took a 20 day trip to Antigonish Nova Scotia. We rented blaze and Linda's 4 bedroom home and chartered his boat for 12 days.. this was one of the most amazing fishery I have ever seen .. in 12 days I released 23 giant blue fin tuna between 600 and 1150 lbs. we were hand feeding these monsters by the side of the boat. If you want a trip of a life time that guarantees you a monster tuna contact Blaze Boyd at Blazing bluefin tuna charters you be treated like royalty and the food on the boat is all gourmet

HI Jon! While I'm flattered by your words we cannot take credit for your wonderful trip to Nova Scotia. Blaise Boyd is a good friend of ours and your comments reflect exactly what anyone can expect when they go tuna fishing with him and his crew. Unfortunately I don't think Blazing Bluefin Tuna Charters has a listing on Trip Advisor yet but I'll be sure to pass on your kind review to Blaise and urge him to get listed on here so you can share directly with him. Next time you're around here fishing give us a wave. We love to know that people are enjoying our great fishery and the Maritime hospitality that Nova Scotian''s are famous for. Tight lines! :)

Spending time with Captain John and Chandra Gavin is a true blessing in itself and the consistent monster bluefins that they put us on, is just a bonus. The scenery, fishing trip and lobster rolls are absolute top notch. Can’t wait to head back up and fish with Giant Bluefin Tuna Charters again!

My Husband and I have been up to Nova Scotia for 4 years now and have fished with John and Chandra Gavin every year. The fishing is amazing the hospitality is just as amazing. Let me tell ya, you get to see fish that I compare to a small car in the water. Not only do we get to catch and release some amazing species but we have been blessed to see beautiful whales too. You will never go hungry aboard this ship, Chandra is always setting some kind of food or snack I front of us to keep us energized throughout the day.

If this is on your bucket list or something that interests you I highly recommend Giant Bluefin Tuna Charters, this outfit is hands down first class. If your not sure where to stay, just ask Chandra she has lists of leads and is extremely helpful. My husband and I will return every year until they tell us we can't!

Long overdue review, we were actually there in the summer of 2016 but they weren't on Trip Advisor back then. This was one of the highlights of our trip! I'd say it was the number one highlight, but Nova Scotia itself gets that distinction. While staying in Antigonish during the summer, my husband and I and another couple wanted to get out on the water. The boys wanted to fish and the girls just wanted to enjoy the water, views and some cocktails. We got just that and more! We were so impressed with John and Chandra. They know those waters like the back of their hands and were entertaining to talk to. It was not tuna season, so the boys caught mackerel. As soon as one spot would start to slow down, they knew just where to take us to kick the action back up into high gear. The weather was "scorching hot" according to the Gavins (about 85 degrees :) ), so they called us before we were to meet them at the dock to let us know to bring swim suits. We did and were so glad. If you do a "fun" cruise in the summer, you must jump in and float. You can float forever in that extra salty water, it was a cool experience.
The snacks were great too. Lots of wildlife sightings. Just was a blast. The Gavins clearly love what they do and they know what they are doing. Even if you don't necessarily want to fish, I'd highly recommend chartering the boat and seeing the island from the waters.

Thank you so much for the kind review Vicki! Your words describe what summer is like for the locals here in coastal Nova Scotia and that is exactly the kind of experience we want to share with our guests. We are blessed to be able to live like this and we love to share the fun with others. We're so glad you had a great time and hope to see you again!

A group of 5 of us took part in a fishing charter with Captain John, his wife Chandra and little John in August 2017. It was FANTASTIC! The fishing was fun, the hospitality was beyond expectation, the boat was comfortable and the scenery beautiful. I recommend it to anyone visiting the East Coast. I recommend wearing layers of not your best clothes. We caught Mackerel and a few other species which we enjoyed at out cottage the next day. I will be going back for a tuna experience with Giant Bluefin Tuna Charters for sure!!
