Fun way to eliminate some driving
We took the ferry from NS to NB. We arrived exactly at the scheduled time. If your running late don’t worry they were letting people get in line right up to when they started boarding the ship. They give a “strict” time to arrive so everyone will hopefully not arrive at the last minute. Once on the ship there are plenty of seats located in different areas of the ship. Food is also available for purchase midship from a stand. On our voyage they had someone playing the violin for entertainment. It was very nice, but i was having flashbacks to the Titanic :-0. The crew was wonderful and made the trip very pleasant.

    Beats the long drive
This is a great way to travel from Nova Scotia to New Brunswick. The ship is large and offers plenty of different seating areas. There's a TV room and several places to purchase food.

Wonderful experience, great to trip from Digby , NS to Saint John, NB and back again
My partner and I took the ferry a few weeks ago from Digby, Nova Scotia to Saint John, New Brunswick. Just over 2 hours compared to a six hour drive. We arrived an hour before embarkment and the onboarding was easy. On the ferry we could relax and enjoy a meal, then we settled into the TV lounge and watched the animated version of the Addams family, talk about chilling and feeling good at the beginning of our long weekend away. No praise can be too high for the consistence of the great customer service from every staff member that we encountered, they genuinely wanted to welcome us and make sure we were well looked after, great training, the best part was on our return 3 days later we had the same experience. A great way to travel and so easy. We highly recommend taking the ferry to Saint John or Digby.

    Decent ferry with good amenities
An outdated ship that could use a little bit of a refurb and paint job, having said that, all facilities were clean and working, comfy seating around the ship with video lounge and quiet areas along with outdoor seating / standing areas, there was a lot to choose from. All staff both at the port and on the ship were very friendly and helpful with any queries. Food and drink were very well priced too with brilliant portions, definitely no complaints and we had a good laugh with the ladies serving.

This was a fun trip. The ferry was clean, efficient, organized, and fun to experience. The ride is just long enough to have fun but not be bored. Going to St. John and taking the Rose to Digby was perfect.

Best way to travel Nova Scotia to New Brunswick. Save me a lot of time and I enjoyed the beautiful view of bay of Fundy. Great restaurant inside also.

First time on the Ferry, glad we did it as it saved us over a full day of travel from the states to Nova Scotia. We were pleasantly surprised by the flow of boarding and off boarding with a car and the comfort of the travel across the bay.

Nice ship. Comfortable. Decent food.
Found that some areas are more comfortable than others. Would of liked more info. Maybe a map of where & what was offered. Saw a guy smoking on the back. Looked like he was on drugs. No staff make the rounds for anything.

Bay Ferries is a subsidiary of Northumberland Ferries and was awarded the operating license for ferry services across the Bay of Fundy in 1997 when the service was privatized.

In the 15 years since that time, you would think they would have come up with a contingency plan in case of mechanical failure or if maintenance was required. Perhaps purchasing a second boat? No, apparently this VERY expensive ferry is the only one available - and when it breaks down, you are out of luck. They cancelled our sailing on July 16 from Saint John to Digby, on 7 hours notice, which ironically was the same amount of time it took to drive around the Bay of Fundy to our destination. Apparently this was caused by the mechanical failure of loading ramp.

They offered no compensation for the wasted gas nor did they offer to pay for our extra accommodations should we have stayed in Saint John. We were at least lucky that we had a car and could make the drive. Tourists who were not so lucky were apparently just abandoned to their own devices. For us, we lost a full day of an already short enough vacation.

If this had happened with an airline... (a) they would have other planes available, and (b) they would be required by regulation to compensate passengers if they couldn't reschedule them. Not so with these ferries.

Not to be outdone, the parent company, Northumberland Ferries, made its own news just a few days later as one of its ferries taking passengers from Nova Scotia to Prince Edward Island CAUGHT FIRE while crossing on July 22, and all passengers had to abandon ship. The ferry was towed to PEI and apparently it was several days before the passengers' vehicles and goods could be recovered. I have no idea what the company did to compensate those passengers but let's just say I am not optimistic.

Bottom line - clearly this is a company that needs to do some serious rethinking about its maintenance and customer safety practices. If you have any alternatives to taking these ferries... use them. We have been on ferries around the world, from Hong Kong to Greece to BC, and never have we encountered such a shocking lack of care and attention to safety and maintenance. Do not take the risk if you can help it.
