Captain (Prince) Harry and staff knew where to take the boat for excellent whale watching. We saw. numerous Humpback whales breaching. One female humpback was curious with us...she kept swimming around and under the boat...she stayed around us for quite awhile before we moved on. What a thrill!

we went on a 4 hour whale watching tour at 1:30 and got to see multiple fin whales that were simply wonderful. Water was calm and no fog. We heard the morning trip was horrible because of the fog. The whale]s were everything we wanted

We made the manic dash from Annapolis Royal to get to Digby in time for a quick lunch and the whale watching trip. We'd booked the Garrison House inn for evening meal based on the punished timings. The nearby cafe had appalling service as it was understaffed and probably not expecting so many people. We rushed our meal. The boat was crowded and headed off to sea. We saw only some fin whales (they don't show flukes or breach). We were out for over 5 hours, as whales were scarce. We missed our evening meal as a result, stopping at a gas station (when we found one open) for snacks. The operators are being optimistic about the chance of whale sightings according to soem of the locals we spoke with the next day. It was too early in the season.

you MIGHT catch a glimpse of something here, but the whales (Humpbacks) feeding grounds are located off of Brier Island. In Digby, you spend your money and take your chances. on Brier Island you WILL see whales!

Brought family to Digby today, called the booking office in the early morning although the forecast called a bit rain and wind but the trip was still a go. The staff were friendly at the reception desk. The captain looks like an old fisherman, he seems quite experienced. The whole trip was fine, the captain took about 1.5 hrs took us to the area where he thought the whales be around. We did see a few minke whales, the captain managed to chase the whale for a lil while to give everybody a chance to see it. Not so good for photo ops, nothing impressive, since the minkes are relatively small, we saw a few fins out the water. Along the way we saw a handful of dolphins or pilot whales from distance, since they were far away, can't really tell exactly what they were. We also spotted a few seals, again from distance. That's why I said nothing really impressive, since they all from distance, no close ups.
We finished the trip in 3hour and 45mins it was quite a long ride. The captain did a fair job, family was happy, bottom line we did see some whales.

There are hardly any whales in this area, I would not recommend going whale watching from Digby.
No sight of anything.

Booked our whale watching trip for 4 adults 2 months prior to the actual date & asked the relatives we were staying with in Dartmouth if they'd mind driving us the 2 hours each way to Digby.
We did as we were advised & rang before leaving in the morning & were disappointed to be told that the trip wasn't running due to lack of numbers & not to bother coming. After a group discussion we decided to go anyway as at least we'd see a bit of Nova Scotia & luckily for us by the time we arrived in Digby they had extra people & we were good to go.
Unfortunately the whales didn't play ball & were not in the area (how dare they!) & unlike a previous unsuccessful whale watching trip we'd taken from Tobermory in Scotland there was very littler other wildlife to see.
The crew did their best to make things as interesting as possible by letting people take control of the boat on the open water (under strict supervision of course) but we got the feeling they knew there was little chance of seeing anything before we'd even left the harbour.
We were later told that July or August is the best time to see humpbacks in Nova Scotia or if you're really keen then make the journey to Newfoundland for more of a chance.
All in all a very expensive boat trip!

My family recently went on a tour with the Dockside Whale Watching and Charters. They were very accomodating and we found the crew to be knowledegable and very authentic. We were thrilled to be able to watch a young humpback play for quite a while - what an experience! Thanks so much.

We took the Dockside Whale Watching tour out of Digby on Aug 15, 2012. We tried the day before to see whales out of Lunenburg with no success, so were really taking a chance and spending a considerable amount knowing that we might not see whales again. Pat and Tag did a great job in scouting our a juvenile humpback whale. The young whale put on quite a spectacle and it was worth every cent. We also saw a group of seals sunning themselves on a small island and shared some good laughs. Pat and Tag did a great job interacting with the group and were especially kind to the children. I managed to capture several shots and videos that we will have to remind us of that special outing. A wonderful memory.
