About
The Van Tassel Lake Trails are a combination of service roads and single track. There is a 3.5 km single track hiking trail around the lake and two spurs: a 1 km spur leading to a look off with a view of nearby woodlands and a 900m loop leading to the Cascades - a gentle waterfall in a beechwood.

These are well-maintained trails leading to some beautiful sights, all a short drive from Digby. We spent an hour walking here and just scratched the surface. The one thing not available is a toilet facility.

A nice collection of trails I happened upon by mistake as I drove from Digby on side roads. The trails are extremely well marked with red or yellow metal bands prominently displayed every 50 metres or so, making it easy to keep track of your location as you take in the sights and sounds around you. A barred owl flew past me at one point and various other creatures rustled about as I hiked by water, basalt rocks, various fungi and flowers, and took in the history of the remaining foundations.

We had seen that it could be steep. But the walk to the lake we took was fine. Beautifully landscaped paths and beautiful views of the lake
