Simply the best skiing in Ontario, long runs well groomed, in fact they have no snow making equipment that’s how much snow they receive on the mountain. The view of the Ottawa Valley from the top of the mountain in amazing. The ski chalet is new and beautiful with lots of space and good food and some great apres ski entertainment after a great day of skiing.Well worth the 4 hour drive for a weekend of skiing.

My husband and I spent the weekend in Mattawa and skied Antoine Mountain Saturday and Sunday for the first time. We love to ski and always wondered what the hill was like. We were pleasantly surprised. It was really great! There are lots of runs to choose from and even though the parking lot was full and there's only one quad, the hill was not crowded! The conditions were great! We had two great days of skiing and hated to see them end! We also loved our BBQ lunches and après ski time on the patio! You should head out for a day or two of skiing or snowboarding if you haven't yet!

Before I write anything I must express my sincere gratitude to all involved in the reopening of this ski hill (and thank you to mother nature for helping out with the snow). I travelled from Kitchener, Ontario to ski and snowboard at Antoine Mountain and I think it’s safe to say that I should never have to set foot on one of those over-crowded Southern Ontario ski hills ever again.

I think most ski hills in Ontario rely heavily on artificial snowmaking, which is necessary to build a good base. In their first year reopened, Antoine Mountain has managed to open 9 runs despite their inability to make any snow. I think we should all be impressed by this accomplishment as the staff and management of Antoine Mountain only had a little over 1 foot of packed snow to work with this year and I think they’ve managed quite nicely. I just can’t wait for next year when snowmaking will be possible, and all hills will be opened.

I actually had tears of joy running down my face when I sat down on that chair lift for the first time in 15 years. And when that bar came down and I noticed it had a footrest I was even happier (if that’s possible). As I expected the lift speed was just perfect (time up = time down). I even snowboarded in -25C and didn’t feel cold because the runs were long enough to keep my heart pumping and the lift was fast enough to get me back on top before I had a chance to feel cold.

All in all, during my four days at Antoine Mountain, staff were friendly and the food was great (especially the pizza). I did not have to wait in line to get on the lift and that’s what I loved the most about this place. I also know that they plan on expanding in the near future so I'm super excited to see these new developments (the new mountain will be much taller).

The small town of Mattawa also has much to offer those looking to get away from their busy lives. It surely is a hidden treasure.

We were super excited to see Antoine Mountain open up this year and have been following the progress for the last 6 months or so.

We planned an overnight trip and got there for bright and early for first chair on Saturday. The facilities were great and everything looks sparkling clean. Good spot downstairs to change and store all of our gear, even a friendly dog milling about, the kids loved him.

We hopped on the new 4 person lift and noticed it was quite slow...not a detachable chairlift so the line speed is the same at the entrance and exits. Either way, it was comfortable. We got the top and saw it was a fairly ridiculous exit for snowboarders, being steep and for the fact that they had the "please move out of the way" sign IN the way. Ironic?

We were then hit with the fact that there was one way down the hill, to the left off of the lift. The only two runs on the right of the chair were black and double black, both closed.

We took the green run first just to warm the legs up a bit and were sorely disappointed again, the fall lines were terrible and you were constantly fighting for speed and height as the slope was pushing you sideways all the time.

To try to get to some of the runs on the right side of the hill (facing up), you have to traverse all the way across the hill as the double black "Spillway" was also closed. Either way there was no chance of a snowboarder traversing across to Kate Place without unstrapping, another disappointment.

Really enjoyed the Mattawa, Ottawa and Laurentian runs and the snow conditions were great, but overall I have to say we were both disappointed and don't think we'll be back.

We have skied all over Ontario in similar resorts (Blue, Moonstone, Horseshoe, Laurentian, Searchmont) and while we had less crowds at Mattawa it just felt so limited. In bad conditions that one runout from the chairlift would be an icy mess, since everyone has no choice but to go that way.

There was also a complete lack of a park, although I'm sure they'll have one next year once they are more setup, as well as snowmaking abilities, which sorely hurt them this year (opened around Feb 10th if I remember correctly).

Skiers won't be as affected by these problems as they can traverse the hill more easily and are not affected by the bad lift exit. Any beginner snowboarders should stay very far away from this hill, we saw a few unlucky ones unstrapping in the middle of the runs as the sideways slope was killing their speed and pushing them to the side.

A lot of these issues are fairly hard to remedy as it's more a product of the hill itself and not necessarily a setup issue. The lift exit could be helped though, especially since they literally just remade it this fall. I suppose they could also move a LOT of dirt in the summer and do a lot of blasting to help fix the sideslope, fall line issues.

Having spent a lot of time at Searchmont for the past few years I have to say I like it a lot better as you have a choice of lifts and terrain and are not packed in with the crowds on the single lift and single runouts. Blue is also a better hill but the crowds can be insane. Both Blue and Searchmont seem to feel longer, even though the vertical is about the same. I have to say that the pitch at Antoine is really even pretty much the entire way down, it's a shame that half of the runs are turned sideways!

I ordered a cheeseburger and onion ring and my wife had a slice of pizza. The cheeseburger was precooked and they had a bunch sitting in individually wrapped tin foil bags. When I asked for lettuce and tomatoes they piled it on my plate and advised me to add it to my burger when i sat down as the burger was wrapped. I saw them putting cookie trays of burgers in the ovens so it appears they are baking them instead of grilling them. Upon unwrapping the burger i saw it to be fairly disgusting looking with no colour as they didn't grill or bbq them at all, it was also barely warm. Meanwhile, the "chef" had his big white hat on. There is no need for the pretentious foot-tall hat when you are serving up baked burgers, frozen fries, pizza, chicken fingers and onion rings. You are a cook, not a chef and should worry more about food quality.

The eating area was actually really nice, like the rest of the facility. The bar area was full and the view of the hill was great. There is an outdoor seating area up top and down below as well, although it was slightly too cold to partake on Saturday. Ample parking and you can ski right to your car, which is always nice. I wonder if they are going to put together some on-hill accommodations in the future, they definitely have the space for it.

I feel bad racking up a 5000 character complaint on these guys as they obviously put a lot of work opening the place up after 15 years or so but I had to get these things off my chest. I wish them luck and do want them to succeed, hopefully some of the things I've noticed might be of help to them.

PS: Pricing was on par for Ontario by the way, no issues there.

Impossible you say … Antoine is back and we're sooooo happy!

We've skied 3 days at the 'new' Antoine Mountain so far and enjoyed every minute. The snow is impecable and the quad great. It's new, the lifties personable and it all works well.

Our family … kids and grand kids … love the place. The lodge feels 'brand new' and the quaint fireplaces are perfect. I played with my 2 year old grandson for an hour near a fireplace late yesterday and it felt great. Our 13, 10, and 4 year old grandkids loved the skiing as did the adults. Antoine's owners have infused in the staff a feeling of friendship, courtesy and 'smiles'!

The skiing was wonderful. The entire mountain was groomed well and there wasn't a concern about ice anywhere. In fact we found powder in some spots, even late in the day. The view from the top remains exhilarating. We skied Antoine in the old days and now see friends there again. It feels a little nostalgic and very good.

The owners are doing things right!

Congrats, congrats, congrats. I think Antoine Mountain is the best ski property in Ontario!

I have been following the progress of the grand opening on Facebook, and was shocked to see how amazing everything looked when we got there. The reno's to the chalet looked great, friendly staff and amazing food! I think the next time I am passing through Mattawa I just might stop in for lunch.

I am a beginer skier and was impressed at how smooth the new lift was, even with the large crowds the line wasnt long compared to other places I have been. All the runs were freshly groomed and it was a great smooth ride to the bottom.

This is deffinitly going to be my family's go to place from now on, affordable lift tickets, rentals, and hotels in the area!

I couldn't ask for better conditions the hill was fantastic, a few runs however were closed No big deal considering Antoine Mountain only re-opened this past February! The Chalet is beautiful with new carpet and custom chairs, the food is great! The bar of course is wonderful. I think the $$$ is the normal price for a ski hill. Very pleased and the conditions. They were GREAT.'I'am snowboarder and have been snowboarding for 17yrs. I was taught on that hill starting at the age of 3yrs on skies. I was there every single weekend growing up! And then to see it close. But 15 year later.. Our beautiful hill is #Backontop Very satisfied, very happy, very pleased overall. Thank you

Such an amazing mountain, spectacular ski conditions on the slopes, the best I've seen in a long time anywhere. No long line ups was so refreshing and the view from the top is second to none! The chalet decor is beautiful, the owners and staff were super friendly and the local accommodations were great also, small town friendly. Absolutely going back every chance I get! Hats off to this gem, such a fun and fabulous adventure! 👍

Wow, what a great hill. The hill has been closed for several years but is off to a great start. New lift, great chalet, large patio. The staff were excellent and the hill was great. All natural snow this year and the man made will start next year. Make sure to plan a trip if not this year plan a date for next year. Great time and I will be back.
