Situated by the water, and is quite old design but looks lovely with the clock on the face of the building

A readily identifiable landmark in Belleville, this building was one of a few civic complexes completed during the economic depression of 1873. It is also one of a very few public buildings of its period designed in the High Victorian Gothic Revival style.
Designed by local architect John D. Evans and built by contractor John Forin, this brick and limestone building is distinguished by its tall Gothic Revival windows on the second floor, a bell-cast mansard roof with dormers, a massive 144-foot clock tower with octagonal buttresses, blind arcades of Gothic columns, four large illuminated clock faces and cast iron railings and weathervanes. The clock mechanism and faces were crafted by E. Howard and Co. of Boston and installed by A. and J. McFee.
The building originally had only two floors. The first floor was an inside market which was moved outside by 1961 to become part of the market activities on the present Market Square behind City Hall.
In 1988, City Hall was renovated by Bel-Con Engineering Ltd. They changed City Hall's two floors into four floors adding over 10,000 square feet of new space, and in 1989, the Ontario Heritage Trust secured a heritage easement on the building.
The third floor of City Hall has a beautiful stained glass window designed by Stephen Taylor of Bloomfield. The window is an abstract view of Belleville and was presented to City Hall by the Belleville Downtown Improvement Area in 1989.
The fourth floor of City Hall features the Mayor and CAO's offices, meeting rooms and Council Chambers.

Belleville may not be the fastest growing comunity, but it sure is quaint compared to bigger cities.
Love the city hall and downtown area. Lots of architecture and history to see including a revamped and beautiful theatre with great live performances from rock superstars to plays and muses.
Great farmer's market with unique items and the new Court House and Library are architectural wonders for the eye.
A great place to live and bring up a Family.

Very nice building. Well maintained and renovated to be our City Hall. I love the center area where you can see all the light and the floors above. Most things are handled on the first floor with a very short flight of stairs to get there. Farmers Market 3 days a week really does bring people into the downtown area. Now we just need a way to revitalize the downtown other shops and services as the center core of our city is moving to the Bell Blvd location with all the stores and shops. Nice bit of grandeur though still for our City Hall.

My son and now daughter in law decided to get married so went to city hall to do it. It is a beautiful building---outside and inside. It took place end of April. It is a very royal looking building. The rotunda is spacious and clean. It is a nice and clean. The room we were assigned was just large enough, although there was only immediate family, so lots of empty chairs. There was a lot of wood throughout and it is well maintained. Short visit but beautiful one.

Have gone there several times for different things. The staff are friendly and eager to help. I've never had to wait long and the best is that there is ample parking right across the street.
