- Handsome ManOakville, Canada45 contributionsPacked on a SaturdayThe beach is nice and clean and the water is warm and shallow but it was very crowded. Everyone packed a few feet from each other. I am 100% in favour of the fees and rules because if they didn’t have them the beach would be chaotic and filthy. The beach is an hour from Burlington and the security and fees are for crowd control. Why do people need a tent at the beach? The idea is to lie in the sun. Thank god they don’t allow them. They block the view and take up too much space. The new thing seems to be small wagons filled with junk. Times have changed and Crystal Beach is doing what they have to do to allow most people to have a good time and so jerks who want bbqs, tents and to bring loads of crap with them don’t ruin a beautiful beach experience for others.Visited August 2021Travelled with familyWritten August 15, 2021
- Ildiko RMississauga, Canada20 contributionsExpensive for a relatively short shorelineWe went at end of August to Crystal Beach. It was crowded as always but managed to park free much further from the entrance. The entrance fee is still$10/person which used to be free a few years ago. It went to $5/person and now it is $10/person. You can find several small restaurants if you don't want to haul your cooler with you in the send. They give you a bracelet so you can come back. A shore is very rocky with sharp small rocks but if you enter the water where the rubber path ends you can walk in without any trouble; no rocks. The worst is that you can't take any sun tent onto the beach, only umbrellas, which will get blown away if the wind is strong and hit other beachgoers. There is no shade on the beach. There is an area where you can shower to wash off all the sand at the washroom area which is very useful. Pros: Lots of sun, lots of sand, warm water temperature Cons: Crowded, no shade, no sun-tent allowed-only umbrellas, expensive for a small beach (300 m sandy shoreline)Visited August 2022Written September 5, 2022
- Donna KToronto, Canada579 contributionsSo Clean Beach Water and Soft SandJust went to Crystal Beach on a very hot day. Wonderful breeze and the water is so clean. You can see the bottom, walking in on soft sand. The water level going in quite far is low so it is great for young kids to safely play in. I was just at Wasaga Beach a few weeks ago and it is cheaper, and the beach is long, great for walking but the water is dirty looking. Yes Crystal Beach is very expensive. For 2 people we paid $30.00. My mistake going on a Friday as it is considered weekend rates at $10.00 a person. During the week is $5.00 per person. Parking you have a choice of lots or street parking with a cost. Directly across the entrance to beach is a lot where it says $4.00 per hour or max $15.00. There is a machine to pay and you get a ticket to put in windshield. Directly across from this lot is another lot where there is an attendant and a sign for $10.00 parking no ticket given. There is security at entrance of beach and they search EVERYONE'S bags and wagons. That is ok with me. Just go by the rules, they do not want problems and want to keep their beach clean and a pleasant experience for everyone.Visited July 2022Written July 23, 2022

We will never go back to the crystal beach. There is an entry fee $10 each person in the weekend plus expensive parking fee. And you can't BBQ, can't use tent, you can only use umbrella.

I love Bay Beach. We love Crystal Beach. So much that we bought a cottage. It’s shallow for kids. Clean. Clear. Best sunset. Nice sand. You need to pay to enter. I like that security monitors it. Lots of shops around for meals and snacks. Such an amazing vibe. I love this little beach community.

Years ago this beach was awesome. Pretty sad that they changed the name to Bay BEach & 's all about the money now. You have to pay $10 a person for a day on the beach. It's not the amount, it's the principle, esp when everything else like gas, parking, food is expensive, you figure the beach would be free. We ended up driving down to Long Beach & the beach was just as nice & guess what LESS PEOPLE AND IT WAS FREE!!!

If there was a 0 rating, I would rate this as 0. First, there's a parking fee of $25. Then, $10 per head entry fee. After paying, you can't bbq or cook anything on the beach. You can't even take a shade for the sun. Only umbrellas are allowed. Plus, it was extremely crowded.
We were a family of 8 people and preferred to walk away and instead went to Confederation Beach in Hamilton. Free entrance and parking, benches to relax and cook, and a gorgeous place.

The beach was infested with hornets.
You cant relax, or eat. And even while swimming they hovering over you.
I wanted to do a Staycation and help build the community but the cost is $10 per person plus $20 for car parking if you found one. Clean washroom and no life guard. Pricy in this day and age .
All that took away the joy from the beautiful beach it was once know for.

It is getting worse and worse. Parking and entrance are expensive. $10 per person and you get nothing. Garbage bins are far. Washrooms are disaster. No Showers. So why we pay $10 per person. Plus the young local staff is not really friendly too the people who comes out of the town. They give really hard to at entrance. They act really unrespctful and rude. Dont waste your time to go to this beach. Lake is not clean water either.

Keep away …we traveled four hours to arrive there, they turned us away because of the discriminatory rules re beach goers. Only residents allowed in as ,supposedly , tickets for outsiders sold out in the morning. Waited two hours as we really wanted in , lots of people exiting the beach and creating capacity but only residents let in. Not counting actual numbers but arbitrary turning people away ( wrong decision In disclosing we are from Toronto ) .

Hi, I would like to know if the beach is open to resident of Ontario, at present?
We live in Toronto and wanted to know if we could trip the beach?
Jay Tess
Fort Erie, Canada
Thanks for your question. Bay Beach (also known as Crystal Beach) is closed to anyone without a Fort Erie resident season pass. Resident season passes for Bay Beach are being offered to Fort Erie residents, Fort Erie taxpayers, and Fort Erie short-term rental operators with proof of address such as a driver's license, passport, tax bill, or any bill that shows the person’s name and address. Hope this helps answer your question. We look forward to seeing you when it's safe for our community.
Was just wondering if people from outside Fort Erie can come to the beach?
Thanks

In order to access Bay Beach (big/main beach area in Crystal Beach, you need to have a Fort Erie Season Beach pass. Beach passes are given to residents of Fort Erie and seasonal property rental operators only. If you are visiting Crystal Beach and renting a property from a rental operator (for a day, weekend, week, etc.) the property manager/owner will likely have beach passes that come with the rental that allow you to access the beach. If you don't have these passes, you can't access Bay Beach. Crystal Beach Waterfront Park and Boat Launch has a smaller beach that can be accessed without a pass and is open to anyone. There are also private access beach areas available if you rent a property that has private beach access.

So, what does everyone think of the Town's efforts to cull the weekend herd, i.e., charging admission? We loved that there was more room on the beach on weekends, and the quality of the visitors was much better. What are your thought?

We loved the beach and went as family and spent money in the community instead of shuffling off to Buffalo and area....but since the quality of our experience went down at the beach ..we will take our family either North or over the border...Enjoy!!

Benches? Why would you take a bench to a beach? Crystal Beach is too small to be "all things to all people". Anything that takes up space where people could lay are banned. Tents, where the "poo crew" from the GTA would dig holes, erect a tent over the hole and crap in it all day long is disgusting, and also banned. Rightfully so. I see you are from Brampton. Enjoy your beach day.

Crystal beach never was a public beach. In the 50's there was still an entry fee, albeit onla a quarter.

Crystal Beach has on the sides private beach and a portion that was public. Now to enter the public space you will pay ... hope I clarify your replied..

Does anyone know of any alternative beaches nearby that are free and worth exploring? not interesting in paying to go to beach plus parking!

Christina the beaches in Southern Ontario are not expansive like those in Australia. All the Lakefront was not kept in the governments possession. The beaches mentioned by another rude person are close and free. They are all smaller than Crystal Beach however and not as beautiful. I hope you enjoy yourself no matter where you end up.
Is there parking area? If yes, is there a parking fee? Where is the parking area in relation to the beach? Any suggestions for free parking?

Street parking now has a fee. Same price as the lot I believe. $10 maximum per day. Beach fee is $5/person per day. From 10 am to 5pm I believe. So if you get there before ten you won't pay admission fees.
