Enjoy a day in the country. The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada is a lifelong home to over 70 donkeys, mules and hinnies that have been abused, neglected or are no longer wanted. We recently relocated the Long Ears Boutique so it is now closer to the parking lot. It is here that you will receive your safety talk before entering the donkeys world. Each year we strive to improve access to the animals and property. Two accessible parking spaces have been relocated to provide easier access to the Boutique and safety talk. In the new improved Boutique you can now use your debit cards to purchase your donkey memorbilia and cold drinks. All proceeds from the Boutique go to the care of the donkeys.Don't forget to visit the new Donkey Gallery where you will find the donkey profiles. If you decide you want to help care for the donkeys, you can fill out a sponsorship form for a minimum of $50/year. You can also give as a gift to someone who has everything. The interactive Learning Centre has lots of information for all ages...everything from books to bones. See how we treat an abscessed hoof. Find out what a slipper hoof is. Learn what food is best for donkeys. Hint: All hay is not created equal. From the Learning Centre pass through the barnyard gate where you can interact with the donkeys who love a good brush and scratch behind the ears.Your are invited to listen to one of three scheduled donkey talks. Learn about the challenges donkeys face in North America. Then make your way down to the century old barn that has been converted into the Treatment Centre and visit the main herd up at the new Donkey House....and don't forget to greet the mules before you make your way to the picnic area overlooking the pond.Finish up your day with a walk along the trails in the wetlands and woodlands.

I am a huge animal lover so I talked my girlfriend into bringing her grandaughter to the sanctuary to visit the donkeys. We were already in the area so it just made sense. There were approximately 80 donkeys and mules that you could react with....More

This is a very special place made for donkeys and mules, both animals which are commonly neglected even without malice. They require special care that many people do not undertake for them; they are different to look after than a horse. Here you can interact...More

In town visiting family. We had other cousins that had been over the years and talked about how fun it was for the kids. It did not disappoint. While I would not make a special trip to the area to see them it is worth...More

We had a very enjoyable visit to the sanctuary. The donkeys were charismatic, gentle, and friendly, and the volunteers were knowledgeable and clearly passionate. It is a working sanctuary, so don't expect a "petting zoo" kind of atmosphere; it's primarily designed to give a safe,...More

Perfect for the whole family (even if it is a family of all adults), the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada is a beautiful piece of property on the outside of Guelph. Surrounded by rolling hills, hiking trails, and green pastures this is a perfect place to...More

This place is a wonderful example where older and geriatric animals can be placed and even enjoyed. The animals know that they are safe, so they are happy and peaceful. I think it that children and all adults need to see that older animals still...More
