An absolutely delightful experience. A first-class museum. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a very informative and thorough tour of Whitehern.

The museum is a small family house.Organizers could keep atmosphere of past periods, for two centuries. The guide Jarrod told us many interesting things and expressed positiveness.Definitely,he is a very knowledgeable person, who likes his job ! On of the most important thing is that there are original furniture and personal belongings of the family. It was very interesting to hear a real story of a Lady, who worked in this building as a housekeeper/cook. One day she visited this site as a member of an excursion group... :-)

This was a wee get together for our family for Xmas. It was delightful!!! Amazing!
The maid was spectacular with her stories and positive attitude. She brought the family details alive! She told us she had been there for twenty years. Although the house seems small from the outside, it is large inside and so many details are exactly as life once was.

One of my favourite stops offered in Doors Open Hamilton! I’d heard about it several times previously but never had the time to make the trip out, until now. I loved the history of the house and the family! Amazing stories to hear. I hope to return for a full tour of the house sometime. Exceeded expectations.

We have always considered a visit to this historic gem and finally, we took the Xmas tour just recently. We were met by a gracious tour guide who answered the door. A knock on the door is required to get into this museum. The interior decor is typical mid to late 1800's and the mood is delightful with some elegantly decorated Xmas trees and garland all over. You immediately get an idea of the Xmas spirit of over a hundred years ago. The guide was very informative and the tour lasted about 1 hour. We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit this wonderful well kept mansion in the centre of the City.

Guided tour by a lady in the costume of the former cook of the house. She tells 'her' own story as well as that of the house and the various residents, as you move around the house. The house itself has been preserved exactly as it was when the last of the family members still lived there. A wonderful insight into the lives and times of the family and the development of Hamilton itself. Well worth a visit.

I have visited several historic homes where the house was frozen in time as the family left it. The difference is that the tour guide spent a lot of time getting you acquainted with the family members through family photos and stories. It adds a lot to the understanding of why the house looks the way it does and how it fits into the history of the region.

Whitehern has an amazing collection of period furniture and possessions from the former owners. Everything is in perfect condition and you have the feeling of stepping right into history. The life story of the residents is very interesting. The accuracy of the information is impressive as it's drawn from an extensive collection of letters, journals, etc. The best part of the visit was our interpretive guide. Our interpreter had an amazing amount of knowledge drawn from directly researching the archives and even personally meeting the person she is dressed as. Very informative visit! The tour takes about an hour.

The whitehern home has such an interesting history and so complete with original contents! It's like the family just walked out and left it to the city. Amazing really. And the interpreters were some of the best I have encountered after spending years as a museum junkie.
