The museum is a small family house.Organizers could keep atmosphere of past periods, for two centuries. The guide Jarrod told us many interesting things and expressed positiveness.Definitely,he is a very knowledgeable person, who likes his job ! On of the most important thing is that there are original furniture and personal belongings of the family. It was very interesting to hear a real story of a Lady, who worked in this building as a housekeeper/cook. One day she visited this site as a member of an excursion group... :-)

We ended up being the only family that was in the tour. Our guide was very informative and kind. We ended up realizing the vital importance the family has had on the area development. Parking is near the house. Some days are free. It isn’t the safest area but there appears to be constant security to watch for patrons.

I have visited several historic homes where the house was frozen in time as the family left it. The difference is that the tour guide spent a lot of time getting you acquainted with the family members through family photos and stories. It adds a lot to the understanding of why the house looks the way it does and how it fits into the history of the region.

I just had my tea party themed bridal shower at Whitehern in the Stable but it was honestly so perfect! They supply all the tea cups and saucers, tables, chairs, linens and all the dishes! They were so kind and helpful during the whole planning process! I would highly recommend Whitehern. Such a unique space, I want to go back already! Everyone who attended my bridal shower fell in love with this venue. <3

Guided tour by a lady in the costume of the former cook of the house. She tells 'her' own story as well as that of the house and the various residents, as you move around the house. The house itself has been preserved exactly as it was when the last of the family members still lived there. A wonderful insight into the lives and times of the family and the development of Hamilton itself. Well worth a visit.

Whitehern has an amazing collection of period furniture and possessions from the former owners. Everything is in perfect condition and you have the feeling of stepping right into history. The life story of the residents is very interesting. The accuracy of the information is impressive as it's drawn from an extensive collection of letters, journals, etc. The best part of the visit was our interpretive guide. Our interpreter had an amazing amount of knowledge drawn from directly researching the archives and even personally meeting the person she is dressed as. Very informative visit! The tour takes about an hour.

My bridal shower was held in the stables at the Whitehern. I absolutely loved it. We had beautiful weather which is always nice, and the backyard grounds are just gorgeous on a beautiful day. The stables seemed to be able to fit approximately 60 or so people. It has its own kitchen with supplies and bathrooms to the side down a small corridor. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a cute shower location. The only thing I didn't like were the chairs in the room. They snag clothes and are not the most comfortable.

I was inside Whitehern twice this summer with different groups as it was so enjoyable. Both costumed interpreters I experienced were lively, engaging and knowledgeable, telling the story of the influential McQuestern family who lived there from 1852 until 1968. There's tragedy, temperance and even a wicked step-mother along with an interesting tour through a lovely home. The house itself has elements from the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian times though it's set up as in the 1930's. I'd like to go back to see their Christmas display.

I was back to visit the grounds outside as well. On Wednesdays this August they hosted bring-your-own lunches, providing 1930's style music, tea and lemonade in the lovely little garden in the back, hopefully they'll do it again next year.

The house is filled with all original things from the families that lived in the house...which is a rare find. They were having trouble with their computer so they gave us a free tour.

Coming from the U.K. I was wondering how this historical house could match some of the National Trust properties I have seen. But this sure is a hidden gem. Our tour guide had worked at the house for 12 years and she made our tour so interesting. The family history was explained in such detail and with an uplifting manner. It was such a great visit I would recommend a tour. And. Being with a large group it was $5 per head. So so worth it. And no tipping was allowed as they worked for the city.
