My family and I did the "Surviving Summer Camp" (medium level of difficulty) virtual escape room this past weekend and we had a ton of fun.

We were 5 players in three separate locations in Ontario. The recommended number of people is 3 to 5, though they say they can accommodate larger groups with advance notice. I think a larger group isn't a good idea though, too many people all trying to talk at one time on a call would turn into a mess.

The Escape Room is done using Zoom (which is their recommended platform), Google Hangouts or Facetime. We used Facetime (Facebook Messenger Chat with video, though even there, one of us had the video turned off so he was audio only) and everyone needs access to high speed internet and a computer. It worked very well for us.

Shortly before our game time I was emailed the maps and the link for our game, and I forwarded the maps to everyone else. To get started, I sent Sherlock's Escapes a message on fb to connect using the link they had sent me, and invited the rest of the family to join the group. It took a bit of fiddling because Safari, the Mac browser, doesn't support Facebook's video calling feature. I had to open up Google Chrome, and sign onto Facebook from there before I could go ahead but once over that hurdle it was smooth sailing.

Megan was our host, and she did a great job. She was VERY patient! To solve the puzzle we asked to look at things and to try "doing" things, and Megan would tell us the result. She explained everything very clearly and the description of the puzzle was well done.

HINT: Have paper and pen ready to jot down notes! And to get the most out of the experience, be as specific as you can in your instructions to the host when you ask to do something or to look at something.

The virtual escape room experience worked better than I anticipated. We had a great time, and I look forward to doing more with Sherlock's Escapes.

So glad you had a great time Summer! To tell you the truth, we couldn't be happier having Megan on our staff. When COVID first hit, we had lay everyone off temporarily, and we were so proud/excited when we could hire back staff to provide virtual escape experiences. So glad that you and your family were able to unite to take on the case (and have a little fun in the process too :).

I booked the Sherlock’s Escapes Summer Camp virtual escape room for my son’s 10th birthday. It was a wonderful experience and the kids really enjoyed the humor provided by the narrator as he gave us clues. The kids had 70 minutes to figure out what prank was pulled on their summer camp cabin. I wouldn’t recommend for anyone younger than 10. It helped to have a few adults assisting in the background as well. The narrator was professional, calm and quick witted and managed to keep the kids on track. We really enjoyed the experience and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

So glad that we were able to deliver a birthday party that hopefully broke the doledrums of Covid. All the best for 2022, and perhaps see you again for the 11th birthday?!?! Hopefully not online, though we shall see.

Our group of nine gathered on Zoom with our host Sofie for a solid hour of entertainment. We have done the in person escape rooms a variety of times (and loved them) and were curious as to how this would work. The biggest concern was that we would over talk one another on this platform. It all worked out and was a ton of fun. People started to work on clues independently and then share ideas as we “moved” about the room. Great work keeping us on task in the Lair Sofie! I would absolutely recommend this for a night of entertainment!

Thanks so much for your insightful feedback. While I am a little late responding here, rest assured that I have told Sofie several times that her excellent room hosting has been noticed by customers and managers alike. Thanks for helping to solidify that, and so glad you had a great time! All the best in 2022

We first visited Sherlock Escapes over the winter and enjoyed the puzzles and creativity of the theme. Ideal for lovers of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, but also really get into character. Overall it became one of our favourite escape rooms, so when I received an email at the start of the COVID-19 isolation that they were doing remote escape rooms, we jumped at the opportunity to do something new.

Our first remote escape room was the Cave Caper. All we need was the internet and a file of papers that was dropped off at the door. We had no idea what to expect, but it turned out to be a challenging and thought provoking case. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new challenge. We were able to complete it on our own time without ever leaving the comfort of our home.

For our second experience, we were looking for a remote game to play with family members over Easter. We were all able to log in from different locations using Zoom. The escape room was done in a D&D style, where we an Escape Room Master who described everything to us and guided us through the exploration of the room and escaping. Again it was a unique experience and was great opportunity for our family (ranging from 14 to 60 years of age) to be together without being together. Cannot do another one.

Unique Travel Plan, Wow, thanks for the thoughtful and insightful review. You definitely nailed the essence of what we are trying to deliver, so it is humbling to hear that we were successful in your eyes with our delivery! Hopefully you are still finding fun ways to interact despite COVID, and in case you weren't aware, we do have three virtual simulated escape rooms now... one is even called The Lair so you can get a little bit more of your D&D on (joking really... there is no fighting in the experience, only puzzle solving and escapeing ;). Cheers, Matt Rothwell Director of Games

We did the virtual escape room with our family spread from Waterloo to St. John's NL. It was a really fun thing to do as a group when we can't actually be together.
Armstrong was an awesome host and made the experience very realistic
Thanks for adapting to a COVID friendly game!
We look forward to any new mysteries you have to solve as we've now done all of the virtual escape rooms
Would recommend to everyone - there is a skill level for everyone and the hosts are great!
Thank you !

Such a fun experience for a great price! I booked The Lair virtual escape with a group of coworkers and can't recommend it enough. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. They were able to adapt the experience to tailor to our needs on a short notice. It was such an engaging and interactive activity, and the feedback from my coworkers was overwhelmingly positive. I couldn't recommend this experience enough!

The team at Sherlock's was very organized and facilitated our group of 37 very seamlessly through our 5 rooms. The cadence of virtual instructions/guessing was easy enough for our group to follow and eventually you get the hang of it, compared to being in person. Very well done and our team had nothing but positive feedback to share! Great bonding/culture building for teams scattered throughout NorthAmerica.

It was an awesome experience. It was organized by my employer and was an online activity because of COVID-19, but doing it online was new and an amazing experience, especially since it was my first time but the person describing the scenario was really awesome, literally felt like we were physically present over there. Thank you so much we all had so much fun, would definitely like to visit the place in person at some point.

I highly recommend this as a virtual group activity! We booked The Lair virtual escape room for something different to do with our extended family. It was a lot of fun and so great to be able to do something different as a group together. I really liked how interactive it was between our family to solve the puzzles and escape. Matt was our host and he did a great job leading us through the scenario and making it fun and enjoyable for everyone. Thanks for a great experience Matt.
