My daughter wanted to go here, so we did. We got a slight discount by buying via Groupon instead of directly.
The first thing I should mention is that the feeding encounter (extra fee) sells out quickly and can only be purchased at the ticker booth. If you want to do this, you will want to get there early. We got there a bit later in the day, and would need to have waited 2 hours for the next available spot.
The first few exhibits were small and cramped, so I was very worried that this was going to be a very short visit. However, once we got to the large aviary, I felt we were getting our money’s worth.
Overall, it was an OK visit. Definitely worth it if you’ve never had any similar experience before. Probably would have been better if we did the feeding encounter.

A large of variety of interesting birds that are easy to see and photograph. Many fly free and whiz past and land close by. Some other fascinating animals (snakes, tarantulas, etc.) The 'museum' that starts off the tour is an odd assortment of items. We visited on a weekday before March Break and it was busy enough. I imagine that at the height of the tourist season it could get crowded and probably less enjoyable.

First and last visit. Needs serious updating and cleaning. The fake trees and plants all look a bit ratty. The place is very dark overall, and some of the hallways/walkways are quite narrow and if it’s busy you can stuck behind slower groups. The entryway is very weird, with this faux history about a lost kingdom, Egyptian statues, and random articles hanging on the wall. A bit decrepit and seemed to have nothing to do with the birds.
We saw very few staff so it felt like an abandoned tourist trap that hasn’t seen any freshening up in ten years+ (though that’s normal around Clifton Hill).
Was not worth $60+ for a family of 3. Very odd place.

Bird Kingdom was a wonderous experience. It's quite hot in there, so be sure to take your coat off if you are wearing one. There are so many different birds and many levels to explore. Give yourself lots of time to go through Bird Kingdom. Well worth the visit!

Went with my 2 teenage daughters. This place was located to the right of the border checkpoint. So it was very easy to get to. When we first walked in I thought "great what the heck did I just pay for" because it kinda seemed like we were walking into a Ripleys Believe it or Not- BUT happy to say I was wrong. It is so freaking beautiful inside! The amount of different birds freely in their areas was really cool. We spent about 2+hours there. Pictures do not do it justice. I bought tickets on Groupon (so look their first for tickets).

After visiting here, I had the same feeling I did after visiting Ripley's Aquarium, and it's not good. I am genuinely concerned for the welfare of some of the birds I saw. The ones in the large, open main area seemed ok, but some of the ones in the smaller cages on the other level did not look healthy to me. One poor parrot named Red in particular has bothered me, how he looked. He spread his wings, what was left of them, and there were many parts with no feathers at all. Just bare, spiny things.
I really wish I had not gone, supporting animals in captivity for people's entertainment isn't right. These two poor little blue jays that were in this cage flying and landing on a fake tree, it just isn't right. I talked to them and the one flew right over and landed near me. You can tell they are used to humans, not like ones in the wild.
This area not far from the blue jays had maybe four tortoises in this cramped area, the one walked right over to me and looked up at me as I spoke to them. He seemed friendly almost. I could have reached in and touched him, but they have powerful bites I know. It's honestly not safe to have them open like that where people could reach in, they could lose a finger. A little kid could easily touch it and be bitten. As I said, the birds in the large, open area seemed better off than the ones locked in these small cages. I wish I had not gone and supported such a place. I do hope something can be done about that poor Red the parrot and his lack of feathers.
He was 18 yrs old according to the sign, and they can live to be 80. What a life, sitting on a perch all day watching strangers walk past you. He should be free and soaring through a rain forest. I would caution anyone I knew that was planning to visit here not to. I know many just want to see the birds up close and do not really think of or care about the welfare of the animals that live there against their will.
I'd watched videos on Youtube talking about this attraction and it seemed a good attraction to visit after the butterfly conservatory, but the butterflies although also captive, live a matter of weeks only and are not mammals.

The bird kingdom was fun for my family to visit. My wife is terrified of birds and she was a trooper.
It started with a museum that wasn't all about birds. It was a little confusing, but I weirdly enjoyed it. There were a lot of sections where the birds were behind a cage, but there was a huge section where the birds roamed free.
This felt like an experience that is better if you make the most of it. I personally enjoyed my time because of the company that came with me, but it could have been slightly boring if I just ran through.

As two adults visiting for the first time, we actually really enjoyed it. I was hesitant as I had heard mixed reviews. There were a lot of beautiful bird species flying about. I wish they had more information about each species other than identifying pictures but overall I enjoyed it. They had an area where you could feed the birds which was fun and an area where you can get upclose to the macaws.

Are your birds obtained ethically? Where do they come from?

Bird Kingdom is a CAZA accredited facility. CAZA is the Canadian Association Of Zoos and Aquariums and this organization is made of of professional that make policies, standards and ethics pertaining to all aspects of a zoo as well as encouraging education and conservation.
Bird Kingdom obtains our animals three ways:
• Trading with other zoological facilities or participating in Species Survival Programs
• Breeding of our animals at the zoo
• Donations from private owners
We have an Animal Care Committee and Veterinarian that reviews any new acquisitions before they are accepted to ensure the animal can be properly cared for at Bird Kingdom.
Bird Kingdom is always looking to improve the lives of our animals through upgrading enclosures, enrichment, nutrition, medical care and having educated staff. Conservation and educating our guests is very important as we try to inspire everyone to take care of the earth.

Would this be good for someone with mobility issues? My husband has difficulty walking distances/stairs due to arthritis. Thanks!

There is a lot of walking, and you will want to take your time to see all of the exhibits. You can go as slow as you like, but if he has difficulty walking for 1-2 hours, take a wheelchair and enjoy yourselves!

Do you have to buy food if you want to feed the birds?

No you do not have to buy food. The only place you are allowed to feed the birds is in the Lorikeet feeding area, where the food (nectar) is offered in a small cup for free.

Do we need a Canadian visa? Or passport is enough?
CheersKim

Bird Kingdom is in Canada. If you are a US citizen, your US passport should be enough to cross the border into Canada. If you are a citizen of another country, check to see if you'd need a visa to enter Canada. (At Bird Kingdom, they will not ask you for your passport or visa; you will be asked when you try to enter Canada)

Are there any opportunities to feed the birds?

There’s one section with the Lorikeets where you can hold a small cup of liquid that the birds will drink. The Lorikeets are in the larger of the two aviaries. That was the only place I saw where you can feed the birds. (Staff will supply the cup of liquid; you won’t have to buy anything) Also, the staff member will take your photo which you can purchase later.
