Peaceful Beauty!
Oct. 2019
Although, as you've probably read in some of the reviews below this one, the lovely Oakes Garden near Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls, Ontario, isn't entirely accessible - it seems that the last member of the family who originally donated the land is still alive, and she's resisted making any changes - people with limited mobility who use walkers, rollators, wheelchairs, or scooters *can* visit potions of the garden - if you know how to find the entrances on Falls Avenue! :) Both accessible entrances are built into the wall on the left side of Falls Avenue, as seen when headed in the direction of Clifton Hill. The first entrance leads into the Secret Garden; not all of it can be accessed by people with disabilities, as a bridge to the left and a lower level to the right both have steps; however, you can view the pond area, which is a wonderfully peaceful and subtly mysterious place to sit and read, write, or just take stock of things; although the pond is close to the busy Falls Avenue and the very busy Clifton Hill, it somehow manages to feel secluded - a lovely place! The second entrance on Falls Avenue leads to the balcony of the Oakes Garden proper, from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Horseshoe Falls - and, yes, this is the balcony which includes the massive, curving flower bed, famous for its tulips in the Spring and for additional plantings year-round, so even if you're physically limited, this spacious, peaceful, beautiful balcony and its rainbow of flowers are still yours to enjoy! :) But wait, there's more: a gravelly but accessible path leads from the right of the balcony entrance down to the Oakes Garden's box gardens and famous box-trimmed trees, an area which exits back onto level pavement, so you don't have to miss that, either! :) There's a gift shop across the street from this exit, which advertises restrooms, but they are *not* handicapped accessible - the nearest restroom that *is* accessible is the family restroom at Wendy's Restaurant on Clifton Hill. Part of this lovely garden is all yours to enjoy, regardless of physical condition - so enjoy the view, and don't forget your camera!!! :)

I love the Oakes Garden Theatre. It is a garden of flowers.

They put it so beautiful!

There are trees to walk here.

We can see the States waterfall from here.

Balconies are attractive as well.

A fountain

The balconies are amazing!

A place for seating.

We came across this park while walking along the falls on our way to the Rainbow Bridge. Lovely manicured garden with flowers and water feature.

My husband and I are just walking and happened to see this nice park. It’s pretty and relaxing. It wasn’t even crowded when we were there.

This is an easy walk and if you want to relax and enjoy the sunny days it's great. It is not really wheelchair accessible as there are steps that you may need to go up.

This adorable little park is easily missed but really should not be. It has a beautiful lawn and benches shaded by manicured trees, and even a little koi pond. Do yourself a favor and stop here for some peace and relaxation in Niagara Falls

Found this little gem right next to Clifton Hill. Peaceful and beautiful. Things hadn't yet bloomed since it was mid-April, but just a fantastic place to walk and sit and enjoy the beauty of the place. Lots of benches and places to stroll. Very romantic and I highly recommend it if you just need 10 minutes of peace and quiet before getting back to the rush of Niagara Falls.

What a treat to see that after wading through the tacky Clifton hill area there is actually a beautifully maintained garden in the middle of this tourist area. A serene attraction dotted with fountains, benches and a fishpond in an English maze style. It’s a shame there are not more events hosted here.

Located at the bottom of Clifton hill, we were waiting to catch the Blue Line WeGo bus and noticed this beautiful serene park. Since it’s Oct, there was not a lot of flowers but still pretty place for pictures.
I’m glad I found this place even just for a short time for photos to share...
