We enjoyed our wine tour of the Pilliteri Estates. It seemed that as we came as a private tour with Niagara Vintage Wine Tours and our tour sommelier and the Pilliteri staff doing our tour (Rob) knew each other personally, we got a behind the scenes tour. We toured the estate, the underground cellars with the wine barrels 20ft below (my favourite part), the massive grape press machinery, the architecture of the new buildings, the appasamento (sp) style of wine making unique to this particular wine estate and the marketing and packaging of their wines which they export globally. We also got a history of the Pilliteri family and how 3 generations of the family still actively work within this winery business today.

I loved that in the wine tasting within their beautifully decorated and furnished private tasting room, we got to taste several different wines (not just 3 wines which is the norm in many estate) including their more high end reserve wines and trivilante. Rob kindly offered us waters to drink, as well.

This was a fun experience and the only thing I would say is that if the wine tour can be timed with a walk on the fields or seeing the grape press machinery in action or seeing more of the behind the scenes action, it would be fantastic and highly educational.

Excellent tour. By far the best tour. Jacob was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of wine making - from vine to cask. We sampled a numerous variety of blends - both white and red. We ended our experience with dining wood fired pizza at the Barrelhead.

While the wine was decent and the staff was lovely, I found this winery's atmosphere leaving me with something to be desired. It seemed perfectly average of what was to be expected. We didn't eat there so I can't speak for the food.

Many of the wines we tried were pretty pedestrian. The experience was just so so as you do not see anything but a wine shop. Felt like more of a tourist trap than a wine tasting.

Many wineries simply offer a tasting, and that can be fine, especially if you hope to visit multiple wineries. But we were very pleased to take a guided tour at Pillitteri. We got to learn of its history of a fruit stand-turned-award winning family winery. We paused at the edge of the vineyard, observed the production room, then went down to the basement where wine ages in hundreds of barrels in a cool environment. Then, on to the tasting. We were particularly impressed with the Fusion white blend, while our friends loved the red ice wine. Our tour and tasting was led by John, a friendly and entertaining guide and host. We visited four wineries by a Niagara Vintage Wine Tour bus, and the 14 of us by far bought more wine at Pillitteri than at any other stop (possibly more than at the other three combined), which should tell you something about the wine and the experience.

Pillitteri may not be the most scenic winery you go to on your visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake, but what they do have are wonderful wines. Angelo took us through the history and served up his best wines during our tasting. We left with a trunk full of wine including Cab Franc, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. Prices are fair and tasting area makes for a great visit.

In the past 6 months we have gone at least four times. We went for Niagara Ice Wine Festival in late Feb, and again early March. Delicious meat balls paired with ice wine. The last afternoon of the festival Sean was super generous saying that since this and that Icewine was open, we might as well try it. We went back in early summer and Indra treated us like Royalty. She too, went above and beyond. In fact, my son decided to become a Wine Club Member. We went back this week, and Conner and Emily were super gracious hosts. We have felt so welcomed and so spoiled each time we went. Highly recommended.

We were in Niagara on the lake and were advised by our hosts at Greenview Manor to try Barrelhead at Pillitteri estates, it is only a short drive from Niagara on the Lake and well worth the time time it took. There are picnic benches outside under the cherry trees, which is a great atmosphere, the service was quick without being rushed, there is live music from around 6pm. We ordered the Peach and Blueberry salad and the Prosciutto e funghi pizza both were exceptional, we ordered apple juice and the barrelhead ginger beer to drink. We would recommend Barrelhead to anyone that is visiting Niagara on the lake and we will certainly be returning ourselves.
Pillitteri Estates is a stop on the Double Decker bus tours.

We are locals in the area and have visited many wineries in the area.
Family of 4; mom, dad and 2 daughters aged 21 & 23.

This was a pleasant surprise!

Having just come from “Two Sisters” winery, we pulled in and gave this “road side farmers market looking” winery an immediate thumbs down due to the general appearance. My eldest insisted we go in as she had heard good things, reluctantly we did so. Esthetically inside and out, very, very average at best.
But the tastings, what a treat! Flight of 6 tastings for $20 and the family couldn’t believe how enjoyable each of the wines were! Brian our server was pleasant and even went looking for several bottles we wanted to try that weren’t handy. He even brought us for a quick tour of the wine cellar afterwards. Really got a “personalized” feeling at this little stop!
We ended up staying for pizza in the back. This took longer than we were expecting, but our server Kaitlyn was kind enough to stop and check in with us regularly explaining an issue with being short staffed in the kitchen that day. Each time she ensured we had what we needed including fresh cold water (was a terribly hot day). The pizza was delicious. We had been to many wineries over the last month and this by far had the best pizza yet! (Not to mention live music that wasn’t too loud - you didn’t have to yell at each other over the table to chat). A really nice spot.
