About
Trius Winery is a Niagara winemaking pioneer. For more than 30 years, we have been crafting fine VQA wines from premium grapes grown in the four appellations of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Nestled between the Niagara escarpment and Lake Ontario, we have made our home in a wine growing region that provides the diversity to grow a number of varietals in unique growing conditions. Our winery provides both a wine and culinary journey like no other. A visit to Trius Winery is an unrushed sensory experience, a time out that lets you taste, feel and discover. Our wines and menus are inspired by the seasonal evolution of the vines that surround us, and the local produce that grows beside them. Our wines, our dining, and our daily events for the wine lover and Wine Club members make Trius Winery the perfect destination for your wine country visit.

Trius Member Weekend - More than worth it!

Nov 4-5 was the Member's Weekend for the Trius/Peller/Gretsky/30 Bench Group
We spent most of Saturday doing 3 events at Truis. This year there were nominal charges for most events.
1) The pre-release tasting was much better managed this year as it was presented as a seated tasting for a selection of 8 pre-release wines. They presented wines from each estate and as a panel had 3 winemakers and the estate sommelier to present and discuss each. The winemakers were fully knowledgeable about their wines giving details of the year/varietal and comparisons between vintages. The sommelier suggested pairing for all wines. The panel was responsive to questions and a good time was had by all.

2) You had me at Merlot - Second event was a wine and food pairing. Trius Sommelier and Chef Dodd. Chef Dodd prepared three excellent pairings - A parsley embedded goat cheese topped with honeycomb to go with the Truis Brut. A slightly spice poached pear on lightly smoked Five Brothers with the 1st Merlot and Niagara gold with onion jam to go with the RHS Merlot. Each bite paired amazingly with it's selected wine. Chef was good enough to share the secrets of how to make the goat cheese and onion jam.
And then you went home with a take-out box of selected cheeses. How can you miss?

3) Savory Bites and Back Vintages
If you are lucky enough to have some of these wines in your cellar ... Here's how they are tasting now. And what goes with them. Again another selection of suggested pairings with wines that are very limited in availability. But also a tribute to how the wines of Trius (formerly Hillebrand) are standing up to today's tastes. Do they measure up? Without a doubt.

Rude Tour Guide

Tour guide was RUDE. Do not recommend going here. There are MUCH better wineries in Niagara. He rushed us and told us to hurry up the whole time, would not allow us even a minute to take photos Turing the Trius tour and was completely rude. He was an older gentleman working on Sunday Sept 10th 2023. Absolute waste of money and was rushed the entire time. Did not enjoy me experience with him.

Restaurant tries to hard to create gourmet food

We were really looking forward to dinner at this famous winery. Unfortunately it was extremely disappointing. I did not like anything that was served. The restaurant tries too hard to make gourmet food. And it failed. The beef was tough. The Cornish hen was not tasty and too complex with weird flavors. The duck appetizer also was not particularly tasty. In my opinion the restaurant should serve good food rather than trying to make beautiful presentations

We went here with my parents who visited for the first time in Niagara on the Lake and it did not disappoint. The ice wines were phenomenal and all the staff were very attentive and helpful. Also great location

Great Experience

My friend and I are from Niagara and had never been to Trius Winery. We are very happy with our choice! The atmosphere is a great way to spend a summer afternoon. The vibe was relaxed but lively at the same time. We did a seated tasting outside and the wine and service were great! There was a very small mix up with the restaurant food choices so without hesitation they offered us our tasting on the house. It was really nothing big at all and the free tasting was an appreciated gesture. I would highly recommend a visit to Trius, their sparkling Brut is refreshing and I will be back to try the Brut bubbly bar!

Great Birthday Lunch!

We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The food was delicious and it was a gorgeous, warm sunny, day to be at the vineyard. The waiter, Walter, was attentive. Alice at the front reception was super helpful, very accommodating and made the day special. We had a gorgeous table, beautifully set up for us.

The best tour from Ed

We had Ed as our tour guide and it was so informative as well as fun and beautiful!
We enjoyed the different rooms and how beautiful they were as we were listening to Ed. He made us laugh and we absolutely enjoyed it and would go again!!! We even got complimentary wine glasses to take home :)

Nice afternoon visit

Many times when we visit a winery, we do so when they are not busy. I highly recommend doing so. We spent an afternoon at Trius with a handful of other customers. I had some Reisling, my wife some Chardonnay. Both were very tasty and our server took the time to talk to us about what Trius was all about. She was very engaging and was a big factor in enjoying our visit.
The winery itself was comfortable and welcoming. We would definitely revisit.

When booking the reservation, specifically requested non-alcholic beverage options as one guest was pregnant and another was a DD. Even called to make sure this was an option, and reminded them when we got there. When we were on the tour, we asked the tour guide for non-alcoholic options and they said they don’t offer that. Thoroughly disappointed as they didn’t have any options for those who couldn’t drink and still had to pay the 50$ for them to attend the tour.

Wonderful Experience

I took my friend there for his birthday and the service was phenomenal. We received a glass of bubbly on the house which we were not expecting but we really appreciated.

Our server was awesome and very knowledgeable in wine pairings. The restaurant offered set menus which consisted of either a two course or three course meals. There was a nice amount of options to choose from and the food was really delicious.

On top of that as we ate in the restaurant we got $5.00 off to shop in their wine store. Wonderful selection of wines to choose from.

Thank you for making my friends birthday very memorable and special. We will be definitely coming back!!!
