We were so excited to try McFarland House on our visit in Early October, 2016 but discovered it was closed. We didn't realize that they are open only on weekends in October. Very disappointed because it got rave reviews from friends who have visited before. It was 70+ degrees the first week of October so I hope they reconsider in... More

We popped in for the house tour - all tours are guided - and we found it informative and interesting; our guide was enthusiastic and very professional. However, the highlight was the cafe (tea room). Staff were excellent, the menu great and food fantastic. The scones were the highlight, and the coffee was pretty good too!

We had a super tour of this pre-1812 house by the curator and were lucky to get a table for lunch in the all-glass dining room. Excellent food at a very reasonable price. Free parking is available by registering your license plate inside. Make a reservation if you want to eat there.

McFarland House is a monument to to the impeccable manners, good taste, and gracious living that epitomizes Niagara-on-the-Lake. The historic Georgian structure was the home of John McFarland and his descendants for some 140 years. McFarland and his sons built the house in 1800 from bricks made in a kiln on the property. McFarland, a widower with four children, emigrated... More
