We are wine enthusiasts and have visited NOTL and Twenty Bench annually for the last 8 years. Over that time we have visited majority of the wineries but this was our first ( and last ) visit to Marynissen.
There was no “experience” or “service” for that matter, the staff that we spoke to had no knowledge of wine. We generally like to chat with our sever about what wine we prefer and let them know we are wine enthusiasts with an extensive collection that we are looking to add to and that typically the low cost run of the mill table wine is not what we are looking for and have them make recommendations of what to sample after that.
After our discussion with our waitress she recommended a $10 sangria which was definitely not what we were after. After explaining again what we were looking for she brought us 4 Jell-O shot glasses of red wine and walked away with no description.
We usually share a tasting as we are looking to add to our collection and have many stops and are driving but despite saying that she still brought us two “flights”. All the wine tasted the same and very basic table wine, half of my husbands flight was taken entirely by the wind and the staff just came and picked up the plastic shot glasses and walked away, they were full and hadn’t been touched but weren’t replaced. At this point we knew this wasn’t the place for us so just paid ( full price for 2 tastings even tho half of it was on the payment) and left.
Of the 50+ wineries we have visited this was the worst experience we have had.
Of the few wines we tried I would say they are ok if you’re looking for a cheap basic table wine, if you are educated in wine and have a palate this is a stop you can definitely skip.

Hello brownellp,
We are so sorry to hear about your negative experience here at Marynissen Estates. Our apologies for this.
We have been in the midst of training an entire team of new staff once being allowed to open back up again. Understandably, it has been a bumpy year right up until and during re-opening and the new protocols we have set in place to adhere to strict Ontario guidelines.
We appreciate your feedback and are constantly re-evaluating our protocols to best serve our customer base.
We hope you will consider a return to Marynissen Estates to receive the wine experience and knowledge you deserve.

We went on a group wine tour and this was our 2nd stop of the tour. The guide did not give us any options of wine to try and didn’t really tell us what the wine was until it was already in our glass. The guide didn’t stick around for storytelling or help answer questions about the wine. It was also 15-20minutes wait per tasting. Afterwards, we went into the shop to see what other wines they had and it smelled funky inside (dirty mop water).
I’m sure it’s a great place, but we didn’t get that impression during our visit.

This place is a little bit further away from the main cluster of other wineries, but my visit was worth the time. I did not imagine I could taste a sparkling icewine. It was so great I purchase a bottle. The creativity of wine masters here is beyond your imagination.

Marynissen was one of our stops on our winery tour, and it was easily one of our top 2! We had Mackenzie as a our server who was so wonderful. He answered our many questions, and if he didn’t know the answer he went above and beyond to find out for us. The samples were the best of the day, all of us ended up buying a bottle of our favorite one. Thank you Mackenzie for making the experience so great!

We visited six wineries in NOTL, and this was the clear winner and our overall favorite. The location was ideal. We sat under the shade of a tree. There was a cool breeze. We were close enough to the vines to see the grapes. Our server was warm, engaging, knowledgable, and attentive. We did two tastings. There were four wines in each. They were hefty pours. Plus they gave us three extra pours because they wanted us to try something. Those three extras were much appreciated but not to our liking (individual preference), but the other eight were amazing. Each one was better than the next. There are a lot of wineries in NOTL and they all tend to have a similar taste, but Mary Nissen wines were distinctive and clearly stood out from the others. They really knocked our socks off. I think it was some of the best wine I have had anywhere.

We stopped in here on a Sunday, and were lucky to arrive when we did, as it filled up quickly. What an amazing place! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and it is a small, down to earth winery, with no pretension, just really good wine. They also have Sangria flights, which was unexpected. We will definitely return.

Another wine tasting experience in Niagara on the Lake that we thoroughly enjoyed!
We enjoyed the majority of the wines that we sampled here two days ago. Unfortunately we did not enjoy the two rosé wines that we sampled. We did enjoy the whites, reds and ice wines.
Left with a box of assorted wines to enjoy at home.

In love with this Winery. They have the best wine for the best value. We stumbled on this gem last year made sure we returned to try their new wine selection.
Brittany made my day. She was super busy but made time to answer all our questions. We ordered wine which they delivered to my house 2 days later. (Quick and fast) Thanks Brittany for the cute little note in our wine box.

This was our third stop of the day and we just picked it from a sign as we went by. Glad that we did. One of the oldest wineries in the area and under new ownership a few years ago. Very tiny shop but terrific wines and reasonably priced tasting.

Nice small winery, off the main road and not as crowded or formal as many of the larger ones. Great service, good prices (C$17 for a flight of four), and the wines were very nice. No food service, so bring your own.

do we have to take the tour - can you just go to the tasting room?
how much are tastings
Written July 16, 2016
Sorry I didn't reply earlier, just noticed the question. Yes there are just wine tastings and the prices, from what I remember, were pretty reasonable.
