A picturesque background for any couples looking for a waterfront stroll in summer or fall. The walkway leads to the lighthouse and includes a number of benches to sit and snuggle while taking in the spectacular views of sailboats along the lake. A great way to enjoy the outdoors in the day or moonlit evenings.

If you like a nice evening walk down by the water, take a stroll out on the pier to the lighthouse. Beautiful on warn summer evening, and dog loves chasing the geese :)

Our fourth stop during Doors Open Halton on Sat, Sep 29, was the Oakville Lighthouse, the preserved 19th century wooden lighthouse standing on Oakville Yacht Squadron (OYS) property overlooking Sixteen Mile Creek. To get here on foot from Erchless Estate, we went back to Lakeshore Rd E, walked the entire span of Lakeshore Road Bridge, turned left at Forsythe St and then followed the sloping Francis St until we reached the waterfront.

We have seen similarly built, decommissioned wooden lighthouses but this is the only one that allowed an inside look. We even got to climb part way up the stairs to peek at the upper room. We read about the history of the lighthouse--it was replaced with a light tower back in 1960 and what remained of the old lighthouse was saved through the combined efforts of OYS and Oakville residents.

On Doors Open day, some OYS members were here to answer visitor questions about the old structure. They also gave away Oakville lighthouse greeting cards (with envelopes) as souvenir.

This is a popular place to have a stroll, see the lake and enjoy a nice view. The city has been upgrading the pier so is now wider and much better, you can enjoy the walk and seat in the park.

A very nice park surrounds this area. The lighthouse in the first picture above has been destroyed and replaced. It's replacement is much smaller but a nice walk onto the pier anyway. The address listed is incorrect. Plug 144 front street into your GPS and you are there. There is no onsite parking lot. Just street side parking in the neighbourhood and very tight street. If you are driving a larger rig (as we were) we found parking about 10 blocks away. Also while there visit the historical original post office and house . They are both very informative and both free.

Walking toward the water from downtown oakville is moving away from the (nowadays small) crowds, into the city older part of town. The crescendo is completed with this lovely pier and lighthouse where you could spend hours looking at the lights of toronto and Niagara Falls, or just enjoying the boats in and out of the harbour

It is a nice place to relax and take a stroll along the water, but the lighthouse is slightly overpriced, wouldn't really go back again.
