A very educational and historical landmark in Ottawa. This Famous Five monument is to commemorate the pursuit for women's rights to participate on legislative bodies to the country's greater power, the senate; three had been members of the Alberta legislature. The five women were activists in a variety of areas in their pursuit to better the conditions for women and... More

Not only does this monument share one of the most important moments in Canadian history, but it does it in a fun way. The statues of the famous five are simple, relaxed, and even fun. There's something special about seeing them raise a cup of tea that makes me smile. It's both educational and fun.

Great place to see the monuments important to British olorizarían of Canada. Nice monument park between the Parliament and Peace Tower. Great city views and picture area. You can walk and sit on the nearby benches and enjoy the views.

Steps from the Chateau Laurier Hotel, the statues are stunning. So detailed and life-like, even the details on these pieces are amazing. An absolute must see and easy to find.

Gorgeous full size statues of the 5 women who fought for the right of vote for all women in Canada. This is one of the most photographed monuments of the city.

This is a tribute to the five Albertan women that asked that women to be included as persons in the British North America Act of 1867. The positive answer came back long after in 1929 but their doings weren't in vain.

We stumbled across these group of statues quite by accident but it was very interesting to find out about the history of the group & to take some photos. Well worth a look.

Barbara Paterson's sculpture of the Famous Five stands proudly on Ottawa's Parliament Hill. It is a monument to the five Alberta women (Emily Murphy, Irene Parlby, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney and Henrietta Muir Edwards) who changed the course of Canadian history by asking the Supreme Court of Canada if the word "Persons" in the British North America Act of 1867... It is important to remember or know that these women were only fighting for the rights of white women. Aboriginal and Black women were not included and....just as an FYI several of the famous five were on committees that advocated for the sterilization of aboriginal women and Black women to ensure that the proliferation of the "savage" didn't happen.
