About
The eco-tourism based company ‘Explore Pelee’ was established by Anne Marie Fortner 9 years ago to help make your trip to Pelee hassle free. Local tour guides will show you all the secret magical spots of the island and give historical accounts of life in Canada’s most southern community. Southwestern Ontario is scattered with quaint, small communities full of culture, history and peaceful country landscapes. Pelee Island’s magical charm has been coined the Canadian Caribbean. Some travel far to vacation, but Canada’s most southern community, Pelee Island, is right in your backyard.

Was looking forward to this but it failed hard to impress. We went to the island on the 10 am ferry and came back on the 4pm ferry. The ferry ride over was nice. Pelee Island winery is very tired. We made the mistake of booking a tour. Horribly boring and long. Would have been acceptable if they had served any wine during it. After an hour of talk and a failed video ( was supposed to be 20min ) did they finally give us some samples in the smelly basement. With that done we set out to explore the island. It was very disappointing that there isn’t much to see. Vin villa is gated off unless you pay $50 each. Light house is no where to be seen without a 20 minute hike. Everything is too far away to bike in the limited time between ferries. It promotes biking but the roads are atrocious!! Not worth the time! Stay in Kingsville, lots of great restaurants and breweries, and leave pelee for the birds!

I had communication with Lorie about the possibility of a guided tour for our family during a challenging time of Covid, things were starting to open but logistics, rules and other complications unfortunately didn’t allow the tour to happen. Even though the tour never came to be, I need to leave a review to let people know how accommodating Lorie was to help us out.
Lorie was very patient, full of knowledge and didn’t hesitate to share information.
Thanks Lorie your advice was appreciated by all :) Wishing you and your team well during these precarious times.

In caring for this island to make it a better experience for tourists and to attract more tourists. Maybe some paved roads, a nice park or 2 with picnic benches, a cleaned up beach without dead fish and maggots .... I am sure people would be happy to pay an entrance fee to enter parks/beaches and help with upkeep.

Thank you for your input. Explore Pelee was not operational this season due to COVID. We are a tour company and are not responsible for the road conditions nor picnic areas. If we were open and if you did engage with us to experience the Island on our day trip, we are confident that you would have enjoyed your visit. That said, your review has no relevance to our company and your rating is damaging to our good reputation. We are kindly requesting that your remove your review of Explore Pelee and perhaps send your concerns to the Township of Pelee Island. Thank you.

This was a wonderful tour with Great Canadian Tours. We first visited the Pelee Island Winery after leaving the ferry. The crossing was very smooth. We then travelled in our coach all around the pretty island. We learned interesting facts through our Tour Operator and were lucky enough to have a person on our bus who knows the island inside out. We were fortunate to have an absolutely glorious day. I was really impressed with Kingsville, where we boarded the ferry. It was clean and neatly laid out. It added to the good feeling of the whole trip. Helen P.

My wife and had never been to Pelee Island and were celebrating our 29th Anniversary. After getting off of the ferry we happened to see the van tour folks and asked a few questions. We decided it would be a great way to see the island and we were right! Peter was an amazing tour guide with a great deal of knowledge about the island! I would highly recommend this tour to anyone checking out Pelee Island.
Thanks for a great hour and half!!!

We booked a tour with Tour Pelee island for 8 people and had a fantastic experience.
Loire is the new owner or Tour Pelee and was at the dock to greet us when we arrived.
Our tour started with Lunch at the Winery Pavilion followed by a wine tasting experience.
We had a couple of choices for Lunch (Chicken and Pulled Pork sandwiches). Both were great and were accompanied by a couple of different salads.
Of course, a complimentary glass if the wine of our choice (Chardonnay or Merlot) were included.
Lunch was very good and didn’t Leave anyone hungry.
After lunch, we were treated to a wine tasting in the cellar. Let me say, thank God we did that first because after generous servings I was a little “happy".
After the Pavilion, we took a motor tour around the Island. Loire's husband, Peter, providing the commentary.
Since it was our first time on Pelee Island, we did learn quite a lot.
Part of the Island tour included a visit to Vin Villa, a historical Pelee Island landmark.
Trust me when I say that the tour of the cellar was INCREDIBLE.
Once again, their was a wine tasting included.
After Vin Villa we completed the rest of the island tour.
We ran a bit behind and the Ferry return time approached Loire called ahead and had our tickets purchased for us so that we didn’t have to go through the line up.
The tour took approx 3 hours in total and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in touring the island.
The offer other tour options if you don’t want the full effect.
Give Loire a call and I am sure she will take great care of your group.

Thank you for the awesome review. That was a great day indeed! It never gets old hearing the WOWs from our groups as they enter the cavern of Vin Villa. It was fun planning a customized day for you and your family and would love to do it again, perhaps with a charted boat tour of the outer islands! So glad you enjoyed.

If you've never done a formal tour of Pelee Island, the motor tour is something to consider! We learned a lot in our short time with Peter and we were curious to learn even more after the tour concluded. Plus, you can finish off the tour at the winery pavilion for a free tour & tasting!

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the local lore. Made for an insightful and entertaining tour of the island. She took some extra time to take us to a local art gallery that we would not have seen otherwise. Made us want to go back for more. It's about 1.5 hours and I highly recommend it if you are visiting for the first time.

We were lucky enough to be invited to stay with friends on Pelee Island.
Its not like any place I've been to in Canada It's a lot more like not Canada, the pace and scenic views are a lot more Caribbean Island or Mediterranean.
Bicycles beaches BBQ good restaurants and tons of local wine. There's an LCBO in town and a Cultural center that does a nice job of laying out the history.
People were easy and polite as we were, Ice cream spot next to the Co-op and the Marina. The Local Bar there is as you would expect in a small beach town.
Attractions, you mean like shows and Las Vegas Cabarets and dancing girls, nope. Its a cottage community you make your own fun and enjoy the views and set your own pace.
Never gotta picture but there's still a Mennonite community on the Island, most of the crops are Corn Soya and Wheat. The only Grapes we found were the display ones on the Winery Estate.
Found them grey water snakes and the Blue Racers never presented themselves. Saw the Pheasants in the farm and a ton of fish in the water along the docks.
Oh yeah, don't forget your swim trunks!

The tour started with lunch at the winery, which was very good. Very generous with the sine tasting. Then got on the bus for a but tour complerely around the island. Sarah our guide was very knowledgeable and provided a lot of funny and interesting facts about the people and the island. It was a lovely day and certainly a tour worth doing!
