I just did the hike the Lighthouse yesterday on a warm mid-September day (23C, 73F) and didn't encounter the complaints I've read above. It all depends on when you go. For me it was a pleasant and easy hike through the woods of the Lighthouse Point Provincial Nature Reserve. They have wooden walkways over the swampy parts. Then you come out to the beach a few hundred meters from the lighthouse and I had no problem whatsoever walking along the beach the entire way to get to it. In fact, there was at least 20+ feet from the water to the woods. So no, the water level isn't so high all the time that you have to bushwack through the woods and go off trail (and get mucky or scratched up) to get to the lighthouse. Second, no the bugs aren't bad. I brought bug spray but never needed to put it on and didn't get bit. I suppose it's worse in the summer, I don't know. But Spring and Fall you should be good. As for the lighthouse, it's okay. It's closed of course. It won't blow your mind. There's no amazing view that's much different than other places on the island. Just go to say you've been there. The fun is in the journey, not the destination. So rent a bike (from Comfortech Bike Rentals near where the boat docks) and go!

I visit Pelee Island every summer for a couple days during the time I am at my family cottage in Leamington. Lighthouse Point is my second favorite preserve after the Stone Road Alvar. My primary reason for visiting the island is wildlife photography and the various nature reserves. Lighthouse Point Preserve is actually a quite large area but most of it is inaccessible to most visitors due to marshy spots and dense plant growth. The typical place people visit is the trail that heads up to the lighthouse only. From the parking area to the entrance of the lighthouse trail you will walk along the side of Lake Henry and should keep an eye out on the rocks bordering the lake for wildlife. The Lighthouse Preserve trail starts out as a narrow path into woods where you cross over a couple wooden walkways with water on both sides containing invasive red eared slider turtles and bullfrogs, along with some native wildlife like map turtles. The main trail goes over to the beach up to the lighthouse and there are numerous less traveled paths in the woods that primarily end up going nowhere when they stop at a marsh. The walk up to the lighthouse along the beach can either be picturesque and fun or you could be absolutely covered in biting black flies depending on the weather. Carrying a bug proof netting type outfit is absolutely essential in Pelee Island in my opinion as a just in case thing. Once you reach the lighthouse you can take some photographs and head onto other trails into the woods that all dead end at water eventually. The lighthouse itself has been closed off for many years and is boring, the wildlife is the main attraction. As a note please park in the designated parking area not on the roadway at the entrance to the trail. There are “no parking” signs everywhere at the trail entrance but everytime I have visited there is at least 1 car parked there and usually more than one.

Lighthouse Point is exactly what you get - a point at the northeast end of the island bounded on pretty much every side by water. It's quite picturesque and quite walkable, though I would suggest going in the morning when the light comes in from the east and the turtles sun themselves on the (surprisingly spacious) beaches.

The lighthouse itself is appealing enough in photos, but there's no getting inside.

The point is a great spot for birders and shutterbugs, but you're unlikely to spend a lot of time there. It makes a great destination, though, if you're biking around the island.

We arrived by bike to find a narrow trail that bikes weren't allowed to use so we left them in the stands. The trail runs beside the marsh with small bridges over creeks and ends up on a gravel beach. You then walk along until you see this old structure. At this point another biker turned around. My wife wouldn't go any further and waited for me to return. The lighthouse is boarded up and is getting assistance from four huge logs to remain standing I guess. You also cannot enter it which is a shame. It should be preserved.

My husband and I decided to go over to Pelee Island for the day for our anniversary. The ferry was over priced for what we got once on the island (63.00) . We went May 2, 2015 for the day leaving Leamington at 10am. You had to be at the ferry by 9 and pre-book your spot ahead of time, both ways. We took our car. Then the ferry left the Island at 4 but you had to be there at 3. It is 1.5 hour ferry ride. The ride on the ferry was not too bad. Although once on the island (birding season so you think it would be a busy time), NOTHING was open, NO Where for lunch, no signs to communicate their attractions, NO WASHROOMS except one right across the street from the ferry dock at the townhall. 90% of the roads are dirt gravel roads. No signs except bike path. It was disappointing that for a island that bosts the outdoors and all that it has, it was not welcoming and not tourist friendly.
We visited the lighthouse, which was a short walk along the beach and nothing much else to offer other then the 10 minute viewing of the lighthouse from the outside. There is a LCBO and a town hall with a museum in it (for an additional cost) that was all that was open. The communication at the ferry should of been better to let people know as we thought because the ferry was running we would not of expected everything to be closed. We were hoping to visit some attractions and have a nice lunch and enjoy some hiking and the outdoors, some birds and other species and leave feeling refreshed. It was far from that. Even during the busy season we will not be back. Also stopped at the LCBO to buy some Pelee Wine seeing as the winery was also NOT open, the attendant an older fellow told us that the ferry doesn't communicate to tourists, another common complaint is that the island does not accept DEBIT. We actually read online that the ferry doesn't so we came prepared for that. It was just very disappointing for a day trip. There is also no where to even sit down at a picnic table and have a picnic of stuff you may of brought. The bathroom thing was a nightmare. By the time we boarded the ferry to come home, we ate there on the ferry, the food was okay. Sadly disappointed & will not be returning.

Peaceful, beautiful scenery. There are opportunities for birding for you bird lovers out there. Your walk takes you through a lush green forest on a well tread path to a beautiful untouched beach. Not ideal for swimming but there are picnic spots. Bring your bug spray.

We rented bikes when we got to Pelee and decided that it sounded like more fun to go to this tip of the island. Obviously compared to some other provincial parks in Ontario Lighthouse Point is going to look minuscule (there are a lot of parks bigger than all of Pelee Island), but it was a quaint and fun place to visit, with a Medieval looking lighthouse.

We went during the evening. With the sun slowly setting, the lighthouse had a nice glow behind it - looks great in photos. The only bad part were all of the flies so we couldn't stop for too long without getting swarmed (makes for a better adventure).

Walked back to the lighthouse after checking out Lake Henry for a geocache. Was a little buggy and lighthouse was a little rough around the edges, but we still enjoyed the walk and checking out the structure.

Nice bit of history. Would have been better if we could see inside. Beach area is nice and clean and has the potential for swimming if you wish.
