Bike through Beavermead Park and along Little Lake waterfront, through the locks, and up into the Rotary Path (a short jaunt through city streets. You will pass the Ashburnham Ale House (stop and try a pint: a must on the way back) and lots of interesting places. Best of all: you'll see the Otonabee River and the many birds that fly along the shores. It is an easy level, paved path that is good for the entire family (beginner to advanced).…

This bike path is used by young and old alike. It extends several miles, from downtown Peterborough, all the way to Lakefield (the first village). It is an asphalt trail and there are benches along the way to take a rest. I have used it for years. There will be all ages on it - mothers with infants in strollers, families on bikes, some on roller blades and then there are those like me, who just enjoy walking the path! Bikers are very courteous to walkers. In the spring you pass lilac trees and flocks in bloom in many areas. The path runs beside the river and passes Trent University - an architectural masterpiece/…

We certainly did not, until a recent trip to visit relatives and a chance to hop on our bikes to stretch our legs from a longish drive. Oh, what fun to discover the many trails around town. We made a full weekend of it (besides visiting the family), looping north towards TASS and Trent, then downtown all around Little Lake, and a further jaunt out from Jackson Creek heading towards Omemee. 30 years ago we said "adios" to Peterborough and thought we wouldn't be back unless necessary, as there wasn't much going on at the time (for our interests at least). But now that we've found this amazing trail network, we're planning to come back whenever possible. Other cities could take a lesson or two from Ptbo's forward-thinking bike-friendliness. Kudos to whomever it was that made this cycling network such a great attraction for visitors and residents alike.…
