About
Enjoy a 10km ride from Peterborough to Lakefield along the old CN line. Great scenic ride. The Lakefield Rotary Greenway railtrail is actually just a continuation of the paved Peterborough Greenway trail.

We biked along the Greenway Trail past the river, over bridges, past sports groups and yoga gals, splash pad and past lovely homes and gardens. It was a very pleasant ride and look forward to going back.

Bike through Beavermead Park and along Little Lake waterfront, through the locks, and up into the Rotary Path (a short jaunt through city streets. You will pass the Ashburnham Ale House (stop and try a pint: a must on the way back) and lots of interesting places. Best of all: you'll see the Otonabee River and the many birds that fly along the shores. It is an easy level, paved path that is good for the entire family (beginner to advanced).

This bike path is used by young and old alike. It extends several miles, from downtown Peterborough, all the way to Lakefield (the first village). It is an asphalt trail and there are benches along the way to take a rest. I have used it for years. There will be all ages on it - mothers with infants in strollers, families on bikes, some on roller blades and then there are those like me, who just enjoy walking the path! Bikers are very courteous to walkers. In the spring you pass lilac trees and flocks in bloom in many areas. The path runs beside the river and passes Trent University - an architectural masterpiece/

We certainly did not, until a recent trip to visit relatives and a chance to hop on our bikes to stretch our legs from a longish drive. Oh, what fun to discover the many trails around town. We made a full weekend of it (besides visiting the family), looping north towards TASS and Trent, then downtown all around Little Lake, and a further jaunt out from Jackson Creek heading towards Omemee. 30 years ago we said "adios" to Peterborough and thought we wouldn't be back unless necessary, as there wasn't much going on at the time (for our interests at least). But now that we've found this amazing trail network, we're planning to come back whenever possible. Other cities could take a lesson or two from Ptbo's forward-thinking bike-friendliness. Kudos to whomever it was that made this cycling network such a great attraction for visitors and residents alike.

The trail from Peterborough to Lakefield is a well marked flat ride of about 35km return. We rode to Lakefield for a wonderful lunch at a French restaurant and then did a relaxing ride back to Peterborough. The trail provides some views of the river and you will pass by Trent University. The trail is hard fine gravel so you can even use a road bike on the trail.

Peterborough-Lakefield Rotary Greenway Trail is a rare and wonderful gem that winds through the heart of historic Peterborough along the Otonabee River all the way to Lakefield, there are excellent little parkettes along the way and a couple of really big parks as well. Walk or bike and be sure to bring along a picnic lunch.

Love to run this trail, from east city to Trent university, or to little lake. Walk my dog every day along the trail. Liliacs spectacular in spring, herons and ducks and beavers and turtles, canadian color in the fall, winter magic

Love running along the trail and by and over the river. Great way to explore the Peterborough Waterfront areas on foot or with two wheels. Highly recommend taking it all the way up to the University.
