The monument is worth a stop if you have time, there are some interesting history items there along with a native remembrance wall. I found the $4.50 to go to viewing area a little high. There are some nice walks in the grounds. There is restaurant but unfortunately it was only open on Sundays for brunch.

While visiting Canadian friends with friends from home, we visited Queenston Heights Park for a picnic and to see the landmarks there as part of a daytrip of sightseeing. There was a lot to see. Several points of interest within the park and this site were on our list of places to see. Brock’s Monument and three other units of the park were an on-you-own tour during a 10-minute break from our schedule.
As a historian, I was very interested in visiting this historic site. I felt rushed during that short visit. I went back when I had free time separate from the group. Even in light rain, I enjoyed the monument and others parts of the Queenston Heights National Historic Site, a unit of Parks Canada, the Canadian equivalent of the American National Park Service.
The monument commemorates the death during combat of British Major General Sir Isaac Brock, commander and hero of the Battle of Queenston Heights which was fought on these grounds on October 13, 1812. It was the first major land battle of the War of 1812 which began in June. The British forces of Upper Canada won, but not without sacrifices. Brock’s aide-de-camp Lieutenant Colonel John Macdonell was also mortally wounded along with 12 others; however, the Americans lost 300 soldiers.
General Brock has always been a fascinating figure in history to me because I’m a former resident of Brockton, Massachusetts. That city was named for him.
At 56 metres / nearly 184 feet high, this monument, perched at a high point on Canada’s Niagara Escarpment, is an impressive and imposing tower with commanding views over the landscape below which includes the Niagara River.
The monument sits on what was once a bloody battleground and is now a beautiful, peaceful park.
The monument has a museum and a staircase to the top. Both are worthwhile.
The light rain couldn’t dampen my enthusiasm for revisiting this site at my leisure.
I rate Brock’s Monument at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit to it and the other points of interest in Queenston Heights National Historic Site and Queenston Heights Park.
Handicapped access to view Brock’s Monument and the Queenston Heights National Historic Site from ground level is easily possible from the parking area near the Queenston Heights Restaurant.

Went for a long walk, lots to see here, history wise, with new outdoor exhibits. BUT rumour has it that the Parks Commission is installing paid parking by April or May which will totally ruin my opinion of them and take away one of the only free parking areas left for family outings

Great way to teach the kids a little bit about the history of Canada and an opportunity to see the area from above. My 7year old made it to the top no problem.

We stopped off to visit with Brock on the way to Niagara Fallsand ere glad that we did. The monument is quite monumental, they knew how to honour a person in those days. There was lots of information of the plaques and boards around the site. The parkland surrounding the monument wa well cared for and attractive.

A hidden gem on the SE corner or Niagara-on-the-Lake. A tall monument to Gen. Brock, an important figure in the War of 1812, is located in a beautiful park high above the Niagara River. Open to climb (for those so inclined), it is surrounded by beautiful flowers and a sometimes-open restaurant. Closed for a wedding but open for a peek, the view from the outdoor restaurant was terrific and the menu sounded yummy.
Lots of picnickers, a large covered pavillion was filled with families. The outdoor theater featured live music that filled the park. Large clean restroom facilities are available as well.
Bring the picnic - it's the perfect spot.

How is it possible that I have lived most of my life in Southwestern Ontario and did not know this moment and park existed?? I'm aghast. Everyone should come here and learn some history and live the stories of the multitudes of peoples, not just Brock, who contributed (many with their lives) to the events that became a defining moment for Canada. Oh, and the views downriver are spectacular too!

When visiting Brock's Monument, please stop at the McKenzie Printery at the bottom of the hill of the monument ( just off the Niagara Parkway), to learn about the "birthplace of liberty" for Canadian independence from Britain. The tour guides are quite knowledgeable, and are eager to enlighten all visitors to the history of not only Mr. McKenzie, but the history of printing. You also get to leave with a commemorative scroll with your name printed on it. ( I did not know that "cut to the chase" was term originating from printing.)

The climb to the top is narrow and challenging. The climb behind it on the road leading to it into niagara on the lake, my bike route is very challenging
