- Haleigh Arthur1 contributionA Place Everyone Should ExperienceKivi Park is a great location to do a variety of outdoor activities and is available to everyone of all ages. Kivi Park is the perfect place to bring your family or friends to venture out into the outdoors and do activities such as hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, and fat biking. The landscapes and activities that Kivi Park provides make this place a safe and unforgettable experience. One thing that Kivi Park should improve on is its annual pricing. Their hiking trails used to be free to anyone, but now they only offer a year pass that sums up to $100 and their hiking trails cost $9.00 per person, this can become pricey especially for people of the lower class that have a large number of people in their family. Another issue I have with Kivi park is if you want to actually do any of the activities that they offer, such as fat biking and snowshoeing, you have to pay for their equipment that is also quite expensive. If you’re also someone that relies heavily on public transportation, this isn’t the best place for you to visit.Visited August 2021Written November 9, 2021
- Greenka2014Toronto, Canada58 contributionsWorth the trip to Long LakeWe did the 5 km trail that leads to the lookout. Gives you a good sense of the woodlands and the geology around there. Mostly birch stands in the lower sections but some hardwoods on the upper levels. Surprising view from the top. Bring a camera. Warning, the 5 km trail has some steep sections and the rocks are not always secure. I’m glad we wore our hiking boots and I would take my Nordic poles next time. It rained the day before and there were many really muddy sections up high where the water didn’t drain from the rocks. I was told the 3 km trail is flat and easy by comparison. We walked by the children's playground which looked amazing.Hi Greenka2014, We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the autumn experience at Kivi Park! You will have to come back during all of the different seasons to see how the wildlife and landscape changes throughout the park - there are so many fantastic photo opportunities for photographers! - Barry FSudbury, Canada39 contributionsSnowshoe TrailsI've been to this park several times in the summer and winter and each visit gets better and better. I tried the 7 KM snowshoe trail this time and really enjoyed the different terrain. The snowshoe trails run separately beside the cross country ski trails and all were nicely groomed. This is a beautiful park to get some exercise and fresh air and best of all , there is no charge to use the park. There are litter boxes in various locations and the users keep the park very neat and tidy. We are very lucky to have a facility like this within the city of Sudbury.Hi Barry F, We are so happy to hear that our park is a place where you go for exercise and fresh air. Our volunteers are very proud of our trails and work hard to keep them in excellent condition for our guests. Our goal is to create a premier destination for sport and adventure for everyone (local and non-local) to enjoy! Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback about your experience at Kivi Park! We appreciate your comments and look forward to sharing it with our team so that we can continue to offer only the most excellent services that our guests request. It's a very nice park, but it's for the rich and privileged. You have to pay a fee to use it. Outdoor spaces should be accessible to everyone.

Hi Sarah. Thank you for your feedback. Kivi park is private property that requires constant maintenance and upgrades. With over 480 acres of land, our maintenance team works very hard to keep the space in good condition to satisfy visitors. As a non profit organization, we want anyone to be able to enjoy the space no matter what their financial situations are. That is why we have an affordability fund where people of low income or in financial stress can apply to receive a free annual pass.

The park has many of outdoor offerings -- healthy family fun. All volunteer-run and a friendly atmosphere. The cross-country ski trails are quite good, but not that long. And since the area is not that big, they wind around on themselves quite a bit, an intestinal character. Well groomed.

The trail systems at Kivi park are top notch. Everything is run by a volunteer staff who do a great job.
Lots of sliding and play areas for younger kids.
There is a nice fire pit area for warming up, roasting weenies, etc.
Also a well lit skating trail through a pine bush.
Never a dissapointment.

This park was donated by a local woman for use by everyone. Initially it was free to use, but now an annual membership $100 or daily use pass of $9.00 required..That's a bit pricey for a one hour walk.

Hi DayDream631212,
We are sorry to hear you feel this way about our fees. Mrs Fielding generously contributed over $3M to fund the development of what is arguably Sudbury’s premier outdoor recreation destination. It was Mrs Fielding’s wish that Sudburians and visitors enjoy the park free of cost until development was complete. Now that the park is finished and faces an annual operating cost of $250,000 it is time for visitors and patrons of the park to help assist with costs associated with park upkeep and maintenance. A user-fee system is best practice at facilities like this across North America. This is a natural course of events for facilities like Kivi.
We were mindful when determining the pricing model for our Kivi Passes and we understand the various monetary commitments of our park users. For this reason, we created our Affordability Fund. This ensures that anyone who wishes to enjoy Kivi Park but might not have the means can do so through the fund. The fund is supported through the generosity of our community, fundraising initiatives like our Tree Lighting event and our Pay it Forward Program.
For those who wish to support the Affordability Fund they can do so by purchasing a Pay it Forward Pass. This pass is then matched by an anonymous donor, with funds being matched up to $100,000, making it the largest fund of its kind.
By purchasing your Kivi Pass you are supporting the maintenance and long-term sustainability of Kivi Park and helping to ensure that the park will be here for generations at the calibre that you have come to enjoy and expect from Kivi Park.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or visit our website for more information www.kivipark.com.

It is a big space to hike or do winter activities. We liked the children's park areas. It is a good place to play and relax.

If you are into x-country skiing, or snowshoeing, or are willing to spend the money to rent gear to try fat tire bikes etc. and you have your own transportation this place might be your Jam.
If you are not moneyed; if you rely on public transportation; if you like to feel close to nature; if you go for hikes in the woods to get away from it all (meaning you don't see any infrastructure, like roads and crowded trails that run parallel to each other within a few feet and a terrain that is very landscaped devoid of animal life); then this place might not appeal to you.
To many Kivi Park appears as a crowded playground in the back yard for our cities most privileged; after all it was bought and paid for by them.

Hi Active Outdoorsman,
Yes, our park offers many activities such as cross country skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking, and if visitors do not have their own equipment we’ve tried to heighten their experience by partnering with Adventure365, a locally-owned business, to offer rental services. There are many other activities to be enjoyed as well such as ice skating, hiking, two playgrounds, a multi-use sports field, basketball court, outdoor rink as well as canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding.
Visitors who are looking to get to Kivi Park via public transportation can book ‘GOVA Zone’ which connects you from the bus to Kivi Park with a partner taxi at no extra charge! We have also been actively trying to have the City of Sudbury add a paved shoulder for bike lanes connecting Long Lake Road to Kivi Park.
You will notice the front end of the park is busier than other areas as it’s quite a hub! However, our park is comprised of 450 acres so there’s a lot of space to get engulfed in the wilderness. Many of our guests share photos of the abundance of wildlife that has been witnessed throughout the park. We invite you to explore Crowley Lake and the trails at the south side of Kivi Park as they become more secluded the further you go.
Thanks for sharing your feedback, we hope you join us again soon.

My husband and I LOVE Kivi Park and walk it regularly, often in the dark with head lamps. Last week I had a knee injury due to a fall and I was able to limp out, but the experience got us wondering what we would have done if I couldn't have walked out. Is there anyone or any apparatus/equipment at Kivi for such a 'rescue' or does a hiker just call 911?? Thanks in advance for your response.

Is there lighting that you can walk the trails at night?
