Artful experience with well curated small exhibits. Most seem largely acquired within last two decades. Front desk staff gave me a good explanation of the gallery. I understand the gallery will be moving to the water fron in the future. A larger home will give this collection it deserves.

This is a small gallery that really needs some paint works, as opposed to installations, to be bought in to supplement the local works. Surely Ontario can travel works of Art around the Province, there is so much in store, not on display, at the AGO in Toronto!

The AGO is a spectacular institution, and we hope we can deliver an experience outside what you would find in Toronto. Our regional artistic community is a hidden gem in the art world, so we hope you visit us again and find painted works that inspire!

Profound and beautiful exhibits by First Nations artists interpreting life and history. A must see for North Americans and Europeans.

Christi Belcourt's retrospective with Isaac Murdoch was moving and powerful. Thrilled to see her work so beautifully displayed. Gave time to ponder and take in the message, so much needed today.

Great to see a focus on First Nations art. The items in the gift shop are sparse. Would be nice to have local art work for sale.

A great experience. Priceless artwork from Citizens of the North. Aboriginal, natural beauty scapes and gems of the north.

Thunder Bay is one of those cities that sprawls - partly because it started out as two cities and they are gradually inching their way together. The Thunder Bay Art Gallery is a bit out of town on the Confederation College campus. Once on the campus, follow the signs to the back of the complex and discover a decent parking lot and a surprisingly compact gallery that contributes architecturally as well as culturally to the city.

Like most public galleries, the Thunder Bay gallery has ambitions beyond its current boundaries. it has a splendid plan to locate on the reviving waterfront and would provide a remarkable anchor for that ambitious plan to make the waterfront great again. A plan that is progressing gradually but inexorably. A new gallery building would be the cherry on the cake and is exactly the sort of cultural investment that thoughtful and forward-thinking governments should be supporting.
presently, though, visit the existing location and find yourself intrigued by the range of works on display. Some by well-known artists across the country and others only known locally for some very bizarre reason. There is talent here and some of it is through the permanent collection that has a focus on regional Aboriginal art as well as work by majority cultures. The reason that I visit public galleries is to expand my knowledge of our cultural heritage - and the Thunder Bay gallery is one not to be missed.

Imagine, an art gallery in small-town Thunder Bay! When you visit, and you must, you will see local, regional, national, and international touring exhibits. Local students, both high school and university, show their work here. There are regular showings and arts events. You will see new work each time you return. For me, seeing local and regional artists work is exciting and satisfying. Such variety. Even if you are not a "fan" of "art", do yourself a favour and drop by. I guarantee you will come away with a new perspective.
