About
Get away from it all. Join us for a 1.5 hour walking tour of the unique and charming residential community on Toronto Island, only a 12-minute ferry ride from downtown Toronto. As two longtime residents, we can tell you what it's really like to live year round in the middle of an 525-acre park with no stores or cars. We'll show you cottage-like homes, lush gardens ad beautiful green spaces. Our tour is led by both Susan and Linda, longtime Island residents and costs $25. The pace is leisurely and terrain is flat. Sign up on Eventbrite or go to our website at walkwardsisland.com We meet you at the white gazebo at the ferry docks on Wards Island. Enjoy a coffee or snack/meal before or after our tour at the Island Cafe or Riviera Cafe. We look forward to greeting you and showing you our community!

On a 3 day visit to Toronto I was looking for a tour my wife may enjoy when I came upon the Ward Island tour hosted by Linda and Susan. When I saw their photo I knew this would be perfect for my wife and me. And it was! We booked it just for the two of us but the ladies have done tours of many sizes. This is truly a unique setting with beautiful views of the Toronto skyline and certainly a rather unique lifestyle. The communication arranging the tour for a Monday morning was excellent with very specific instructions on the ferry transport to the islands (Ward is one of a cluster of 3 islands). The City ferry and water taxi’s are the only way there therefore understanding how to get there is very important. Linda and Susan met us at the ferry stop and off we went on a 90 minute walking tour. They took turns explaining the history of the island with some photo aids. The lifestyle is fascinating and my wife and I were filled with questions as we walked and they talked and since it was just the 2 of us we fired away. It was like meeting old friends who were proud to show us their homes. As we walked they greeted and were greeted by other residents. Yes, everyone knows each other. There are no autos on the island. Lots of bicycles. And a sailing club with many nice sailboats I recognized as a former boat owner. And we saw many visitors and school children and seniors enjoying a beautiful day. We bid our hosts farewell back near the start and had lunch at the cafe near the ferry. The trip back on a much less crowded ferry gave us another chance to view the city skyline and take great photos. Thanks to Linda and Susan

Linda and Susan, long-time resident’s of the Toronto islands provided an informative and interesting tour of Ward’s and Algonquin Islands to our group of Retirees from York University. Their presentation style was very engaging and they were well-prepared and knowledgeable. The tour pace was relaxed and all participants thoroughly enjoyed the commentary, the beautiful gardens and interesting houses. Stop at the Island Cafe afterwards for a patio lunch. Would highly recommend this tour for groups.

What a beautiful island! The two people who gave the tour are long-time residents of Ward's Island and they made the tour both informative and interesting. Not only do they know the history, but their personal experience also made it fun. They love what they do and it shows. And that made it special.

What a great way to tour Wards Island. We learned so much from two very knowledgable and animated tour guides.

Both guides had lots of intereting stories to share and were more than happy to answer all of our questions.

Thank you Susan and Linda for an interesting, entertianing and enjoyable experience on Wards Island.

Susan and Linda gave our group of 29 people an amazing tour. They know the histories of the the different islands, and they can provide an "insiders" look at the unique community living there. They were willing and able to answer lots of questions from our group. This was definitely not a canned tour. All in all, it was a very pleasant morning!

Linda and Susan, two delight residents of Ward’s Island, guide you through their charming and peaceful habitat with tales of local history, photos of the past, amusing anecdotes and even (in our case) a walk-on part by Six Paws, the local celebrity puss. This remarkable environment, just a short ferry crossing from downtown Toronto, is a time capsule gem, sadly threatened by rising lake waters. A perfect and memorable addition to your souvenirs of this vibrant city. Highly recommended.

You can't miss this opportunity! Two exceptional tour guides who have lived on Toronto Island for 30+ years, who share their wealth of knowledge, humour and anecdotal stories make this walking tour a truly memorable experience. Hard to believe that a tour of Toronto Island can be so much fun, informative, scenic and easy to do! This walking tour is a "must do" and at a reasonable cost!

This is a fabulous walking tour to add to your “must do” list. Locals and visitors to Toronto alike will enjoy the ferry ride to Ward’s Island to learn about this waterfront community – past and present. Linda ( a long-time island resident) was our guide. A wonderful storyteller, she had great anecdotes and pictures to share and was happy to answer any and all questions. It was a great tour and such a beautiful part of Toronto to experience.

Four of us (one from Toronto; three from out of town) took the tour in early June and really enjoyed it. Our guides, Linda and Susan, have an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the island, and their fascinating anecdotes were accompanied by great vintage photos. A real bonus was that they know virtually every resident of the island, and we got lots of tidbits about individual houses. I would highly recommend the tour.

I went on a Wards Island tour with my Union on a Friday morning. We were a group of 21 people.

The tour was led by two long-time residents, Susan and Linda, who talked about the rich history of the Island while showing pictures.

They also took us to various areas that are important for the people living on the Island. Furthermore, they answered questions that we had, such as the life on the Island.

I would highly recommend this tour!
