Neighbourhood: Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.

This was our first time there and we took the centre island ferry. What a rotten experience. it felt like being trapped in a cattle penn, with everyone pushing at the same time. I almost fell and people almost got hurt. I would suggest taking the water taxi or wards island ferry. They need to do something better before someone or something happens out of pure frustration. A terrible, terrible experience.

This is the starting point for the ferry across to the islands. You can choose which location on the islands you wish to visit. There is also a statue of Jack Layton just outside the terminal building

We used this ferry to get to Toronto Island Park. It is definitely the cheapest option to get over there, compared to the other single boats with gimmicks to get there.
The positives is that is a good price to get a return ticket to and from Toronto Island, there is plenty of space on board (but if you are last one you may not get a seat), and the views of Toronto as you travel on the water are spectacular.
The negatives are the waiting times for the ferry, if you miss one, it's a good 30minute wait for the next; and the main negative being the ferry terminal in the city feels like a cattle pen. Very harrowing when people start crowding and pushing to get onto the ferry, you'd think it would be better organised and managed. So be prepared for this in the main terminal. A queue system might create some order, or only selling tickets for a specific time.

there are many people waiting in the terminal, and we need to wait for half hour to get onto the ferry even in a summer time, I think they should increase the frequency of the ferry to the central island, it's too long to wait. it's so crowded that you almost can't breath, I think it should be every 15 min for the ferry to central island in the summer time morning.

We only had a short time in Toronto and this is what we chose to do! Took the Ferry over to Center Island and walked around for a bit. It was a quick ride over and plenty of seating. Views were spectacular and the Islands are a must see!

My family (2 adults and 2 teenagers) visited Toronto in July 2019. Went on a Saturday morning to the Toronto Islands. Buy your ticket in advance online, otherwise you'll be waiting in a very long line, probably in the hot sun. It's only about $6 per person, so not a bad price. Overall, fine experience.

Took a Jack Layton Ferry to Centre Island and back. It was $8.19 CAD round trip. There is plenty seating with great views. The ride is approximately 15-20 minutes. There are also restrooms and snacks/beverages available for purchase.

This is a great way to get across to Toronto islands! Centre island is definitely worth seeing.

These ferries have a huge capacity, so you should get on easily.

At CAN$9 for an adult, good value for money as you get a free return from the island, even if you go over by water taxi.
