My family and I have worshipped at St. Michaels many timers over the years. The building has been renovated recently and looks fantastic, new yet the same original milestone. The Pastors are very approachable and the interior of The Cathedral is contemplative and welcoming. Sitting out side enjoying the grounds or seeking quiet this is one of Toronto's landmark places... A great deal of restoration has been underway for many months and will continue for awhile yet. But kudos that one of Torontos oldest buildings is being restored.

I was unable to enter as the Cathedral was closed for almost completed renovations but the external structure is magnificent. A fitting structure to honour Jesus Christ, with the cost of the renovation being small compared to the money expended annually by the Catholic Church in helping the poor, marginalised, homeless, those who need spiritual refreshment and those who need... I visited in October and was lucky enough to be allowed in during renovations. The dead have been dug up,the spire reinforced along with MUCH money being spent elsewhere.I was a little disappointed at the display of such wealth when there are many homeless across the road.

Before visiting the 168 year old Cathedral in October, 2016, I had been following the $128 million restoration work online and thus was quite curious to see the results (the restoration is not finished yet). For the first time I was able go to the crypt level beneath the church (an elevator was available, too!). The crypts were rebuilt and... More

I used to visit the Cathedral several times per year before the renovation, so I was curious to see what it looked like after all the very extensive and expensive renovations (some are still ongoing). I was absolutely astonished at the scope of the restoration! There is a new choir (with space for a few hundred of people), new organs,... More

I attended the mass for the restoration and other workers on the renovation. Wow! I was blown away and as the new organ filled the now Basilica with its beauty, I could not help but think how lucky I am to have this as a place I attend regularly. It's been a long time coming and there has been no... More

I was really excited to attend mass at St Michael's Cathedral this morning. Unfortunately the renovations are still going on in the inside, so there was scaffolding covering the beautiful stained glass at the front of the church. It was such a beautiful day outside, and if they could have opened the some windows ( I am assuming they can... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
