Landscape designer Julie Messervy and a group of landscape architects from Toronto's Parks and Recreation Department designed the waterfront's Music Garden in such a way that it actually interprets in nature Bach's First Suite for Unaccompanied Cello. Starting off with the curves and bends of the riverscape, guests make their way through six sections of the garden ending at the Giant Grass Steps, which form a curved amphitheater where performances take place in the summer.

I go for daily walks here since it's right in front of my house and it's just beautiful. The grounds are well kept and the free music event in the summer is just great!! Great place to go for a walk for sit down with coffee, especially since it's right by the lake.

The park is located close to harbourfront and it is great to have a walk and enjoy the water of harbourfront and the beautiful park.

This is a pleasant garden to visit. Wel desgned. I was expecting some music within the garden, but disappointingly, I must say is that, the nearby airport noise, with planes landing and taking off, spoiled the ambience of this nice garden. I couldnt rate it any higher beacause of this.

Who knew? Toronto's waterfront walkway is enjoyable from the airport southern end to way past the ferry terminal, and the Music Garden (several adjoining gardens) make it more so. Free, accessible, filled with people on a sunny day, near Queens Quay shops (including bike rental). Just an urban pleasure and treasure while you're heading to the Toronto Islands Park, or... More

So pretty and very relaxing. A lovely place to sit with a picnic. Unfortunately we never got to one of the free orchestral concerts but I imagine it would be the perfect setting for such a thing. The gardens are very well kept.

I really enjoy those free concerts every Thursday and Sunday (only for summer, though). The willow tree that stands over the stage is very pretty, too. This is a wonderful place to visit even without a concert. Only a 5 minute walk to Harbourfront Centre, too!

The garden itself makes for a pleasant stroll and has enough variety to keep you occupied for a bit. The themes presented make much more sense if you read the descriptions or follow a tour guide.

A delightful, peaceful and beautiful park on the waterfront. Wonderfully designed with winding, treble clef pathways through pretty, well kept garden beds. Stroll along and find the 6 signs referring to different garden and music styles: Sarabande, Prelude, Gigue etc.

The Music Garden is one of the prettiest and most relaxing spots in Toronto. Stroll along the well designed paths and gardens or sit on the benches and gaze out into the harbour. In the summer you can enjoy free and informal outdoor concerts on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons.

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
