Saw Emmylou Harris on August 15th and although her performance was stellar, the seating was so very uncomfortable, it was in pain throughout much of the show. I was in the Gallery section 308 and the seats are so narrow and there is minimal space for your legs. Mine, and my husband's knees were sore for days having to endure not being able to move your legs from a folded position. My knees were touching the person in front of me and he had to sit forward as a result. I had a tape measure in my purse and measured 7 inches space from the end of my seat to the back of the seat in front of me. The seat space was 17 inches wide. The seats are hard and wooden and there are metal handrails that jabbed my sides throughout the evening. What a huge disappointment this was. The majority of people were squirming uncomfortably in their seats and many negative comments about the seating could be heard. What about inclusivity???? Anyone who might have weighed more than 160 lbs or was taller than 5' 10' would not have been able to be comfortable and would have had to endure the terrible seating through the performance. SHAME ON YOU MASSEY HALL!!!! You spent many months renovating the premises without care or concern for the patrons who would be siting in the Gallery Level..

Oh Massey Hall! Second time here since the renovation. Your seating is abysmal in sp many sections that it is a struggle to buy tickets. We were on 300 level on the left side. Most of the people around me were unable to see the performers. The seats are horribly squished together with your legs touching the seat ahead. There is not enough graduation of height of the seating from row to row, so you cannot see over the people ahead even if you are of average height. Don't tell me you don't know how terrible it is, but you do not warn people who pay high prices for these tickets. Shame on you.

The seats are terribly uncomfortable as they are a ay too small. I was literally kneeing the individual in front of me the entire time of the concert and in pain. I would have been more comfortable standing. You need to increase the size of your seats to be inclusive.

I’m a royal member. Don’t bother being a member. You pay a lot of money for….a few “free” drinks? I have no advantage for premium tickets for any shows. You would think so with the extreme price I pay a year. Yes I want to support the arts. I am a musician. But come on I can’t even get a hold of my “rep”?, who phones me to say thank you for continuing your ROYAL membership. But when a big star comes there?! No advantage at all. Don’t bother.

Still my favorite venue in TO. Recently attended a couple of shows post renovation. The place retained its old charm while modernizing and updating in the right places. Great venue!

Massey Hall. The interior is gorgeous, with very comfortable seating and excellent sight lines. Even the balcony comes off as intimate. For some reason, the side stairways to the balcony come across as early 70’s Montreal Forum, while the bar/lounge and interior theatre are chic, 90’s Broadway house.

I decided to write up this review as TA is lacking for this venue/

Hit this place in November for Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds. Had never ben before, great venue. Yes its old, but thats part of he charm of it for me. Nice looking building, worn in spots but had it where it counted ... you can really feel the heritage in this place ......

Staff was friendly at the door. NO they did NOT search anyone for any reason that I saw or experienced. I didn't bring my camera which I regret. No line really .... people moved in quite fast.

There is a bar downstairs, which actually is kind of large. Drinks are in the $7-8 dollar range, all sorts of memorabilia on the walls. Somewhat varied drink menu which was nice. YES you can bring drinks out and to your seat, just need to get a lid for your beverage of choice. I think they allow 2 per patron.

The washroom situation is actually not too bad. Lots of stalls and urinals. Sorry to be weird, but people may want to know. I did experiecne a line up, but it moved quickly, and no one was peeing in any sinks thank the maker!

We had front row seats! Yes it was awesome. The seats kind of slide forward, so it gives you a better reclined view as well. The seats were fine, yes old, but fine. I don't know how many people this place holds, but its not a huge venue. From what I can tell there are some obstructed views due to posts and up on top at the back seemed difficult to see. The acoustics are great in there.

Security guys stand in the front row. They apparently DO NOT care if you have a camera. Many people including myself took video footage. I would hesitate to use flash, that may garnish attention, but overall as long as everyone behaved and stayed in their seat (everyone at this show stood) you will be fine.

I'd see a concet here anytime!

On a side note, I got my tickets though Stub Hub as I had missed the original sale date. I experienced no problems what so ever despite the policy on their site against resale. No one scrutinized tickets at the door, so I assume any such policy is not enforced if at all even possible. My guess it is more of a general deterrent as best.

Cheers!

Saw Burton Cummings and Band last night (9/19/13). It was a heck of a concert by the way. Be careful when buying tickets. I bought online, a newbee, first time at MH. I bought left gallery, though the acoustics are good just about anywhere, I wish I had spent a few more minutes scoping the seating. I would not have bought left or right for that matter. The seats are wood, yes wood and narrow, not cushioned first of all and second, I think the sound would be been fuller had I bought in the centre. So beware, before you commit. You should also beware that there are several posts that could become an obstruction for viewing. It does indicate that online, just watch for it. There was a few persons upset last night that the post was in their way.

Aside from that, if you're driving into the core park on Church Street north of Shuter, there are cheap parking lots costing $9.00, rather than the $15.00 I paid at Church/Shuter before 7pm. Those ones on Church were $9.00 before 7pm.

Enjoy your show, the building is as old on the inside as it is on the outside and that's what makes it awesome!

Don't get me wrong, the sound in this venue is great. But the seats are literally from 1902 and so small you have no option but to knee the person in front of you. I'm shocked that this place hasn't upgraded these seats and continues to cram people into micro wooden seats from 1902.

My wife and I went to see Russell Peter and the venue was a perfect place to see an intimate show. The alcohol and snacks were extremely well priced.
