About
The Ed Mirvish Theatre began its life in 1920 as a combination vaudeville and motion picture theatre in the Pantages theatre circuit. With its original 3373 seats, it was the largest cinema in Canada and, with its lavish interior - designed by the great theatre architect Thomas Lamb - the most elegant. David Mirvish officially renamed the iconic building The Ed Mirvish Theatre on December 6, 2011.

Neighbourhood: Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.

I saw Mamma Mia here twice as part of it's 25th Anniversary Tour and was thoroughly impressed with the theatre staff and the production. I've personally not been a big fan of some of the previous Mamma Mia tours that Worklight Productions has produced, with a reduced pit of 6 musicians and a scaled back and smaller set but this tour hit all the right notes.
The set on this tour while it's similar to previous tours of Mamma Mia that Worklight has produced, is bigger than in previous productions. The casting for this tour is top notch bringing together lead performers from previous productions of Mamma Mia- the North American Tour, Las Vegas and Broadway while pairing them up with plenty of fresh new talent.
Equally impressive was the band which was led by both Matthew Croft and Daniel Klintworth. The music was rich, full, loud and heavy and even though it was played by a pit of 6 musicians and they sounded incredible.
This 25th Anniversary Tour is definitely worth taking a chance on!!!

To Kill a Mockingbird, with Richard Thomas and cast was absolutely amazing! The story was somewhat different from the movie and was closer to the novel. The acting was phenomenal, especially Mr Thomas’ and Ms Moynihan’s performances. At 3 hours, including a 15 min intermission, the story moved along quickly. The powerful message —-particularly Mr Thomas’ final summation in court —-was delivered expertly. Highly recommended.

Excellent location for seeing a show with Mirvish. Street cars are right out front and make exploring an easy activity. Restaurants nearby offer lots of very good options. There are also numerous pubs nearby to try out your favourite drink or appetizer.

In Toronto for 2 days for Billy Joel concert which was unfortunately cancelled. We chose “Just for one day” matinee performance at the last minute. One of us was in a wheelchair and the assistance we got was incredible. Even changed our seats. This is an outstanding performance from start to finish. The talent is amazing. It made our weekend. Highly recommend.

Earlier this month, my family of 4 attended Les Miserables at Princess of Wales. We were very excited to venture into Toronto for this production. Much to our disappointment one of our four seats were double booked. We purchased our tickets in January and we chocked this could happen. We brought this to the attention of the ushers and to avoid further disruption to the patrons surrounding us they had my daughter sit alone for quite sometime until they made other arrangements for the double booked patron. I brought this to Audience Services via email and was told this was impossible that seats were double booked. Although the ushers and all of us saw the ticket stating the same seat as ours - they basically called me a liar. I requested someone call me after several frustrating emails and did not receive a call. They told me they have a very strict no refund policy - even when they made twice the money selling the same seat. After much frustration, we accepted concession vouchers for two for the next performance we attend. Shortly after we received vouchers for a total of $13 when our tickets cost $478. I was not provided the name of any person emailing me from Audience Services nor a phone call to discuss. I’ve been a patron for decades and was so extremely disappointed in the error. Mistakes happen but they customer service was way less than satisfactory

This production was a major disappointment!
As I sat in the audience I discovered, after having spent $900 for 3 seats, that 3 of the 5 principle performers:
Deaundre' Woods
Marja Harmon
Darnell Abraham
would not be performing that day; with stand-ins, one of whom had the distinction of being relegated to the last page of the program, despite the fact that he would now have the lead role as Hamilton.
Manuel Stark Santos proved that he was not up to the task as Hamilton from the start. His opening number was flat and despite my sitting in the 10th row inaudible, a whisper. He appeared to be nervous and somewhat ill prepared for the task at hand. He did settle down and flubbed only one line, that I noticed, after the opening.
At the intermission I overheard another patron say that Emma Claye had a nice voice, but like Manuel, did not project it well; lacked the power. I agree fully.
Having watched the Walt Disney video streamed event of the live Hamilton production it appears that Tre Frazier's performance of George Washington was also less than expected.
I am uncertain as to why when 60% of the leads are missing from action I am expected to pay full price for an inferior product. Had I known that this would be the case I never would have purchased the tickets, certainly not at that price. But I expect that management knows that if they inform the public that the stars will not be performing not as many customers would purchase tickets; choose not be disrespected in this way.
What a waste of time and money.

We just saw Harry Poter and theCursed Child on Saturday July 23rd at 12:30pm. The theatre was very busy which was a little un nerving due to covid as most people were not wearing masks. But the theatre itself was lovely and the staff were all friendly. They did a great job with the renovation/update of the thearte for the play. We had pretty good seats in the lower level and all really enoyed the show. We especially loved all the special effects that they put into the performance. If you are a Harry Potter fan we would highly recommend this play!

As a Harry Potter fan, I give this play a rating of M'eh! I tried following this play's storyline but it made no sense. Performers' audio was poor making them difficult to understand. Very long 3 hours. The best parts were the dementors (very cool), Scorpius and Albus swimming under water, and the performer playing Moaning Myrtle (she was amazing, big kudos to her). The play reminded me more of community theatre with major production ticket prices. Too expensive for the value imo.

The seat cushion width was 15” and the width between the arms was 16”.
The good quality of the performance was completely ruined by being permanently uncomfortable in a seat that was too narrow. Clearly the theater is maximizing bodies in seats to maximize revenue
They will be getting no more revenue from me as I will not be returning.

Mom and daughter attended To Kill a Mockingbird and were thoroughly impressed with the cast and the set design and for their second show last night, off without a hitch and so enjoyable! I loved the book by Harper Lee and was so impressed how the messaging of racism and community forgiveness was such a strong message in the show. They nailed the story and received a standing ovation. Richard Thomas as the !star was a perfect pick for Atticus and Melanie Moore as Scout was spot on! All the cast were brilliant in their roles.
Staff at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre from coat check to pouring wine were efficient and friendly. During intermission they even had a bathroom attendant waving us in the open cubicles to speed the line up. Very much appreciated. Only poor comment is that the seats are narrow and no individual arm rests.
Thank-you for a lovely show and experience!

Hello, I was wondering how seats "Dress Circle Side Seats AA 1&2" are for Les Miserables? I wanted to buy them as a gift but don't know how those seats are.

What food is available at the concessions (we will be seeing the cursed child) other than candy?

I am buying tickets to see Hamilton at the Ed mirvish theatre. Can anyone provide feedback for the mezzanine box seats, or the seats and rows BB. Much appreciated
Written February 17, 2020
Box seats look glamorous but, in reality, your view of the stage is limited. The BB Mezzanine seats should be ok. However, as stated earlier, there is a thick bar/railing in front of the AA seats that blocks the view of the stage.

I won’t sit mezzanine again at this theatre. It’s way too far away for my liking.

How are the seat view from the orchestra box seats? Pictures would be appreciated~
Written July 23, 2019
You might lose a bit on the wing of the side you are on, but 98% of the action is mid stage.
We were close to the boxes and could not see some of the musicians. They were great and they do appear on stage during the show.
Enjoy

It was fantastic. Up close and personal with all the actors ... I’d recommend.
Written December 29, 2018
I believe all the double letters are a bit lower than the other rows I would look at rows D to M Orchestra and the centre section . You need to be comfortable in your clothing from Boas to Jeans . Check with the box office for wheelchair access.
Written January 11, 2019
What would be better seats (both centered): Orchestra row J or Mezzanine row B?
I'm trying to get an idea of which would appear closer.
Written September 9, 2018
Mezzanine in the Ed Mirvish theatre is a bit far back. I would personally go for mid orchestra there, somewhere between rows 10 and 15 from the stage - you will get a nice whole view of the stage and still may be able to see facial expressions of the actors. For shorter people, the mezzanine may be better, since it is steeper. Even in the first rows of the mezzanine, it is difficult to see facial expressions, though.
