3 of us decided to give stand up paddle a go. Julian was a great instructor. Very patient with us! It was a beautiful hot sunny day, so falling into the water was actually quite refreshing. We had a fun time learning it. Highly recommended

My husband and I have been trying to learn SUP for a while and never made the time, but we finally planned for a class on Toronto Island on a Sunny Saturday morning. We got to the Island and in a couple of minutes we were at the SUP location, the area was clearly marked when entering the beach; after waiting for a couple of minutes our instructor came and got us set up with all equipment.

The class was very good, really easy to understand, and as we tried the techniques we got feedback from the instructor who was always monitoring progress, my husband is good at picking up any sport and he had some surfing experience, so he was really doing SUP but I was struggling with balance and coordination (which I knew), really the instructor was really helpful in making me feel comfortable and explaining the techniques any time needed... at the end I was standing or on my knees and really enjoying SUP, I have to say this was a great experience, we had lots of fun and cannot wait to do it again.

I definitely recommend Toronto Island SUP if you are a beginner or have previous experience, is really well organized, friendly, nice environment and set up.

A great outing. In addition to eco experience we also learned some new paddle boarding techniques, which really helped. We saw mink and king fishers, which used to be illustrated on the Canadian $5 bill. Would definitely recommend. And a big thanks to our guide for giving Rowan an impromptu one wheel experience.

Pre-booked an introductory course and whole experience was disappointing. They dont have any lockers or lock boxes to put your stuff in while you are doing your lesson. Obviously you have belongings because you plan on spending the day on the island. Its a leave by the tent at your own risk or use one of their dry bags at your own risk.
We showed up at 255pm for our 330pm lesson so yes we were early but they ignored us and wouldnt take our waivers or suit us up until the instructor got there, fine. Instructor showed up at 315 still not taking waivers or suiting us up until the rest of the class got there. The four other people that were part of our group didnt show up until 4pm. Even though there are clear instructions on the web that if you are not on time you forfeit your lesson with no refund they still made us wait. The staff helped these people first while we still stood waiting.
Once we finally got ready to go out our instructor was so soft spoken we could barely hear her over the hustle and bustle of the beach and boats on the water. SUP was a lot of fun but i would NOT do it here again. Better off doing it in cottage country where they appreciate people more.

The location was VERY difficult to get to. I was supposed to arrive at 12:45pm but got there at 1:20pm. There were no signs/directions from where the ferry dropped us off to tell us how to get to the paddle boarding location. When we arrived to the beach, the instructor was just arriving with all the equipment. When we approached him, he seemed very frazzled and informed us that he had just dropped his cell phone in the water and did not know what his schedule of appointments were. He said he had other lessons but didn't know when. Then asked us if we could come back later. I told him we'd wait on the beach and he said he'd come find us. He was going to go get his schedule from his computer. He came back around 2:10 pm. Only to tell us that he couldn’t fit us in until 4:30pm. We told him we couldn’t do 4:30pm. At this point, I wanted my money back. I then asked if he had an appointment soon and he said yes at 2:15pm. He went back up to his boards and sat down on the beach. We saw no one approach him for a while. And saw no one approach the equipment while he was gone either.
He came to us at 2:30pm and said that only 2 out of the 5 people for the 2:15pm class showed and that he’d take us out. We each got life jackets. And he showed us how to carry the paddle boards down to the water. About 30 feet. All of us were women and most of us had a difficult time doing this. 2 people in my group, including myself, got bruises on our arms.
He then said he was going to try a new way of instructing. Basically he taught one person while everyone else watched. Then everyone followed. I still found him to be quite frazzled while teaching. When we were on the water and he was telling us things, it was hard to hear if you weren’t very close to him. At the beginning of the lesson he mentioned free time at the end. But when we were finishing, we had to ask if we could have free time. He gave us 5 minutes.

All in all, this was a terrible location to access. There was no helpful signage or directions. The company and the instructor were very unprofessional! I will not go back to this company again.

Hey There, Sorry about the late response. Better late than never! I am sorry you had a poor experience with us and I'd like to offer a free class or rental on calmer water if you do so choose to come back. Dropping my phone in the water was not planned and an unfortunate fluke accident. This did make me frazzled and stressed since I lost my calendar and communication to help direct you to the location. I am sorry you had a hard time finding it. We try to make ti clear with our contact page maps and automatic emails. We continuously update our communication methods to make the experience better and easier for people to find us and have a good experience. As for the new teaching technique and free time at the end, no two classes are ever the same. I always change the structure to suit the customer. I felt your group could have used a bit of 1 on 1 before we got out on the water and spread out. I understand it can be hard to hear me and follow directions otherwise. This technique is usually welcomed by most. The free time at the end was cut short because I increased the amount of instruction I gave your group. The structured lesson cut into your time. I still had you out on the water for the full allotted time of the lesson. Getting bruises on your arms is unfortunate but carrying the boards into the water from the beach is part of the Paddle Canada curriculum which we are encouraged to teach as SUP instructors. I've set up boards closer to the water since then so the students don't have to carry them as far. Thanks for your input on that. All in all, I am truly sorry you did not have a good experience. I hope you find a better one with another SUP company in Toronto or come back and join us for a free experience on calmer water. Best regards, Julian

We had an awesome time touring around the Toronto islands on the SUPs. Definitely recommend reserving for 2 hrs - anything less and you’ll not do the experience justice. The booking was super easy, we were able to change our reso online without issue when our sitter bailed and the service at the dock was great.
It does take a bit of detective work to find them once you get on Ward’s Island. My only reco is that they have some signage with an arrow pointing you in the right direction

It was easy and convenient to book a rental on-line. They do a quick test to see if you can paddle in kneeling and standing. Then you are free to explore the lagoons and islands in the area. It is a fun way to bird watch and explore the smaller islands that are more easily accessible. A nice island activity.

We booked on the 10.30am eco tour - we were the only ones booked on the tour and our guide was fantastic. No experience of paddle boarding needed, as we were given a quick tutorial of how to stand and turn etc, and then we paddled round the beautiful islands! Fish and birds and small mammals were pointed out to us as we paddled. The islands and beautiful and very peaceful.

Would highly recommend as an escape from the busy city!

Julian and Jeff were helpful and flexible when weather continued to get in the way of our booking and our hour-long lesson was a great way to end the summer. We always felt safe and comfortable on our boards, and will definitely be back next year for another spin around the island.

My sister, niece, daughter and I were in Toronto for the weekend for a birthday celebration and we were looking for a unique adventure. We found it with TISUP! We booked a 2 hour tour with Julian and had a fabulous time. He showed us various strokes and techniques and we enjoyed a paddle through some beautiful areas, only seen from the water. Julian was great company, he gave us some interesting history about the island and we were fortunate that the day was beautiful.
Our girls are 12 and 16 and they absolutely loved the adventure and are talking about paddle boarding again. I would highly recommend this activity for an escape from the city.
