Two things; 1. go and enjoy yourself. 2. if you are NOT from Canada make sure you have Canadian money as no one will do the exchange rate, there so if it is $10 Canadian and you have $10 U.S. forgot the 20% off they want $10 period so if you pay with a U.S. dollar you lose 20%. MAKE SURE you go to the bank and do the exchange. There are MANY good places to sample food and other goods from the local area. Take your time and try the poutine (just a hint) don't forget dessert. Enjoy

Thanks for recommending us. Just wanted to let you know, we can't speak for the merchants in the market, but the Market Gallery does provide exchange for US dollars, if you happen to buy something from us.

Above the St. Lawrence Market (and with a view of all the stalls and customers below) the Market Gallery is a quick getaway to a quiet, spacious gallery housed in the old City Council Chamber. Enjoy the changing exhibitions of everyday Toronto history from the city archives.

This is a gallery to visit by visitors and residents alike. it usually has exhibits of archival materials about Toronto, Ontario and Canada.
At this time and until September 26, there is an exhibit named Home Field Advantage: Toronto's Summer Sporting Sites. it is dedicated to the PAN Am/PARAPAN Am games, which are taking place in GTA Jul/Aug 2015.
I would strongly recommend a visit to the Market Gallery

The Market Gallery, on the 2nd floor of the south St. Lawrence Market, is a gem. It's wonderful to have that relaxing, beautiful space with changing exhibits where one can go to and escape. It's a great spot to stop and enjoy some history and culture in the heart of Toronto....and it's FREE!

This authentic council chamber is filled with photographs from the 1920's and 30's depicting the public and sporting life of the era.
See pictures of the early Exhibition, sporting grounds, rowers, marathon swimmers, baseball teams, and more.
Also, see ( but don't sit in ) the Mayor's chair from the era - it's impressive.
It will only take an hour to glimpse this vignette into Toronto's history.

The Market Gallery is a small overpriced room virtually impossible to locate with small traveling exhibitions. If you want to lose $15 (Adult + Youth) then you can see this it is located upstairs from the main entrance to the market with an elevator and two deserted stairwells. We saw an exhibit on the Cycling Culture of Toronto you could learn everything with a 10-minute free web search.

Delightful exhibit about The Beatles and the music scene in Toronto in the 1960s. Nostalgic and informative, was well curated and organized. Don't miss this

The Exhibit "When the Beatles Rocked Toronto" was so worth it. Talk about a time warp. Well organized and the videos are such fun, oh the screaming girls! The wall mounted timeline about the changes to TO were informative, dare I say educational!

And then you can buy Quebec Cheese downstairs!

The gallery itself is a little hard to find. The entrance is right at the main entrance to the St. Lawrence market and really easy to miss. The market has lots of other entrances but no signage to point you to the gallery.
Once inside (all the way up) I really enjoyed their exhibit "Tunnerl Vision" although small, it was really interesting nonetheless and you also had a great view of the market from the gallery.
