Neighbourhood: Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.

A bird flew up the stairs and terrorized us, but the manager was able to gently catch the bird and safely release it back in the open.
I did the Ninja room and it was a lot of fun.
The puzzles were challenging but not impossible to solve. The room was designed well, and we felt immersed in the room.
A lot of great team work was needed to escape.
Will be coming back again.

Last night we completed Diamond Creed, having experienced each of their five rooms prior. We started visiting Roundabout when they first opened last year and have returned since.
Our experiences were positive for each room, but have overall comments for the venue in general. General observations:
-The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had no problem giving their our business because we had been given exceptional customer service.
-There are unlimited hints provided via radio -- This is particularly useful for beginners and allow players to consider how much a challenge they want from the puzzles (for us, we limited the number of hints as a group to 3 max per room in order to maintain a moderate challenge). They also sometimes offer a little extra time to solve the rooms even after you pass the time limit (should the room not be booked by another room after you). Technically you failed but they really emphasize on making sure you had your fun.
-The entry fee for the rooms are reasonable -- considering the amount of props, mechanics and gadgetry required per room, I can understand the costs of the maintenance involved.
-The rooms are ideal for 4 people. We found that to be our magic number, which allowed us enough teamwork and not be incredibly crowded either.
-The rooms are typically dark, which proves challenging for visibility for those with impaired vision (typically three of us wore glasses and I have poor night vision in general). I would highly suggest the creators to consider adding a second flashlight in each room which typically only has one (or a larger/stronger one). Especially since some puzzles have instructions that involve reading extremely small print.
-Wait times vary but we typically went on off-days (ie: Sunday afternoons, Weekday nights). They also offer bookings through their website.
-Storage is provided for personal belongings (no cellphones allowed in rooms obviously). Storage is quite limited but appreciated.
Individual room reviews:
Butcher's basement -
This was the first room we had done with Roundabout. The theme involves you tracking down a missing friend to a serial killer's hideout and subsequently need to escape before their return. It was our first escape room experience ever and it definitely gave us lasting impressions of what to expect in subsequent rooms. The puzzles were well rounded, and the horror-themed elements were super fun. Similar to most of the other rooms, this one was particularly dark and hard to see... however it didn't pose as much of a complication as the other rooms.
The Prisoner-
The theme of this room involved being blindfolded and handcuffed. You're led into respective jail cells and have to escape. This one had a lot of physical puzzles in contrast to other room and made very effective use of the space. The room also had mechanical elements to it which could pose troublesome if faulty (in a couple situations within that room, the sensors were not particularly responsive). This room really emphasized teamwork and communication as you spend a significant amount of time separated physically from your teammates.
Final Destination-
The theme for this room involves you being a passenger on a plane which is about to crash. There are two conditions in order for your escape requiring you to have both a parachute and codes to get out. This room we only played with 3 people which in retrospect made it difficult to delegate puzzles as a team. The puzzles in this one ranged from logic to very abstract and truly emphasized on being attentive early on. This room felt particularly claustrophobic as the space is a tiny version of a airplane cabin. The room is properly the best lit of all the rooms. However due to the small space, the puzzles were not linear -- We were quite disorganized in this room as a result. I would suggest to the creators to consider having more audio recordings in the background as it would have given a better sense of urgency of a plane crashing.
Back to the Mummy-
The theme of this room involves stumbling into a Mummy's Tomb after an elevator crash. After doing Final Destination we decided to try a room with extra people and went with 5 - as a result it worked against us as the tiny space in the first portion of the room was tight. It made it difficult to see clues around us as we couldn't navigate properly, and due to extremely poor lighting it was especially hard to see. The puzzles were mostly logic and some very abstract. I would highly recommend to the creators to consider having multiple flashlights available in this room, as I feel that sight shouldn't be hindered in this manner to effectively solve the puzzles.
Diamond Creed-
Roundabout's newest room, the theme of the room is essentially a jewel heist, where you're asked to dodge lasers and crack into safes. The puzzles were primarily logic and the props were fantastic. The thematic feel of the puzzle really sold the "Entrapment" (starring Sean Connery/Catherine Zeta-Jones) inspired room . My critique again stems from the lack of lighting which made some puzzles difficult to see but overall a fantastic addition.
Roundabout is definitely worth checking out and suitable for beginners and advanced players. We definitely will return when these guys update their puzzles and rooms in the future!

I've done a bunch (maybe 15) escape rooms and by far Roundabout exceeded my expectations. Loved it so much that we came back and finished all 5 of them. The staff were friendly, and helpful each time had a great experiance. Solid puzzles, great use of technology, props were on point and the rooms looked amazing.
If you have done escape rooms before and enjoy them give this one a try you will be amazed. I first read about Final Destination on Narcity and was excited to check it out. Wow great room!!
The rooms we did at Roundabout are: Butcher's Basement, The Ninja, Final Destination 2.0, The Prisoner, and Back to The Mummy.
Hoping this is helpful! If so, let me know by clicking "helpful". If you have any questions ask away, I'll be happy to answer them. Happy escaping!

Average rooms at best and over priced. Customer service stops once they get your money. When we completed our rooms, no one at the exit to greet or congratulate us....we walked BACK to the front desk and were asked, "Did you complete the room "? They had no idea. When we asked for a clue, there was no hints, just told is the answer.....not how this works. we have done over 60 rooms and these rank in the bottom 10% unfortunately. We did 2 rooms, and ONLY did the 2nd one because if we didn't they were going to charge our credit card regardless. We have made a practice of doing all rooms that a company has to offer and we absolutely not be doing that in this case.
Very poor all around. Rooms were run down and dilapidated, sensors weren't working properly in one of the rooms. Very disappointing.

I proposed to my fiance in the final destination escape room at roundabout and it was perfect! The staff was extremely helpful and went above and beyond my expectations to tailor the room for me. They were very responsive to my many emails and requests and even created a custom soundtrack just for our session. They also came in early on the day of the proposal so we could set up the room and make sure everything was in place. Not to mention that the game itself was a lot of fun. My fiance and I are both really happy with how it went and highly recommend roundabout and their staff!

Me and my bf came and did the final destination room and had such a blast to the point he told me he loved me in that room for the first time ever. So thank you and I hope everyone else has as close to or better experience as we did. We are going back again soon!

The room escape experience at Roundabout really is not worth the high price, especially considering you only get 45 minutes in each room vs. 1 hour at most places. The airplane level was cool, but the props were worn out and cheap, and we felt like the entire game wasn't that great. The room was also tiny, and because of that, the exit door was the same as the door we entered with, which leaves no element of surprise or adventure.

This place has very good sets, and the staff are wonderful, but the game design isn't very good. We did Final Destination, a plane escape scenario which looked great at first glance, but wound up having a ton of issues. We had to call for hints to clarify whether certain things were broken; the game was too non-linear to make sense, resulting in a ton of wasted time and fun-killing red herrings; parts of the set came apart in ways that created inadvertent red herrings, and so on. With revised game design this place could be worthwhile, but we didn't have a good time and don't plan on returning ourselves unless we hear of major changes.

On our second escape of the day we headed to Roundabout Canada to take on the Final Destination 2.0 room. The two staff members were very welcoming and friendly on our arrival.
The room itself was a cleverly constructed environment, with multiple aspects that gave you a good sense of progress through the game. Nothing felt particularly out of place, with a clear mimetic structure that flowed. The puzzles themselves were smart and although we did require a couple clues, these were mostly down to our own ignorance! The linearity of the room was not overbearing, and enabled all three of us to enjoy the full experience.
A great time was had resolving the troubles of flight RA280 and we succeeded with little over 10 minutes to spare.
We shall be returning in the future to check out some of the other rooms Roundabout Canada has to offer!

Yes, a reservation is recommended. The cost for 2 people is approx 56-60. I've done 2 of the escape rooms at Roundabout and highly recommend it.
