Beeautifully maintained house with an affilitation to Lucy Maud Montgomery
Jun. 2019
LMM boarded here while teaching school. The home is beautifully restored and furnished. You can see the room LMM had when she lived here. Shelly Campbell, the curator, provided us with an interesting history of the site.

We are so glad to read that you have enjoyed your visit to this historic site. Our Curator, Shelly, does an excellent job of presenting the items that have been donated to the Museum, and also in telling the story of the restoration of this beautiful old home that was built in 1878. Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review on your visit to this Designated Heritage Place of Prince Edward Island.

What a pleasant find!

My wife and I were driving Rte 12 up to the top of PEI when we came upon this beautiful little gem of a museum totally by chance. It is just full of antiques and very well restored. You can almost feel Lucy Maud’s presence in the house and grounds. Well worth a tour and the $5 admission.

While you’re there, keep going to the Shelfish museum just down the road from there. We learned a lot about oysters and mussels and the history of that fishery in Malpeque Bay.

Thank you so much for letting us know that you enjoyed your visit to the Bideford Parsonage Museum. The Museum is operated by a Board of Volunteers who have been fortunate to receive donations of the artefacts from many supporters, both local and former visitors to the Museum who have kindly donated their family heirlooms. We are also fortunate to have a Curator who has a wonderful way of displaying these treasures. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know that you enjoyed your visit to this historic property.

Unexpected gem

Stopped here after the shellfish museum. I was sold on it’s link to LM Montgomery but was very pleasantly surprised at all the artifacts and descriptions throughout the home. From clothes, to furniture, to tools and more. There is lots here to see & read. Plus a lovely garden with tables to enjoy lunch or a snack

A must for LM Montgomery fans
Jul. 2018 • Couples
With all the replicas and re-creations of Green Gables that abound on PEI, it was so nice to visit the house that LM Montgomery boarded in during her first year of teaching. Beautifully restored by the residents of Bideford, who also donated the hundreds of antiques on display. What a wonderful museum. Tip....every Wednesday evening the museum volunteers organize an LM Montgomery presentation.

Lovely Find
Jun. 2018 • Couples
You are driving along the east coast on the North West side of PEI and you come upon this beautiful home on route 166 in Bideford. The first question you ask, "What is this place?"

This heritage home was built in 1878 and was purchased by the Methodists to be used as a parsonage 6 years later. The design of the home is intricate and features hood mouldings, finials, column supports and bargeboards - the style I am told is Maritime Vernacular.

Of greatest interest to tourists is that Lucy Maud Montgomery boarded here here for one year in 1894-95 when she taught school in the area. The Museum pays homage to the author, the home and the area. Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for Students

If you are a devotee of L.M Montgomery, then be sure to visit Bideford
Jul. 2017 • Couples
Our guide greeted us warmly and explained how this historic home has been reconstructed to the way it was in the late 19th century. The curator has done an excellent job of gathering, organising, displaying pieces from the period. This home is where L.M. lived while she taught school for one year from 1894-95. A restored home that is truly beautiful.

Wonderful experience in lovingly restored house
Jun. 2017 • Friends
One of the loveliest historic houses we saw on PEI with one of the friendliest and informative guides. The process of restoration and donation is highlighted and the collection is interesting and well-displayed. I liked seeing the pantry where the original liniment cake that L.M. Montgomery used in Anne of Green Gables took place.

If you are a fan of LM Montgomery, this should be on your 'must visit' list. Her home when she first taught school in 1894-95. Some incidents in her books have their origins here. It is so well recreated to that time, inside and out. Easy parking.

A Must for Lucy Maud fans!
Aug. 2016 • Friends
The museum didn't have many articles from Lucy Maud, but local people have donated their cherished items from Maud's era. Our tour guide Shelley was highly knowledgeable and charming. We spent 90 minutes there and could have stayed much longer. Next time we'll pack a picnic basket! Bideford is a small community but close to Green Park for camping and swimming.

L.M.Montgomery Readings
Aug. 2015 • Friends
This is a bit out of the way, and the museum is small. It is where L.M. Montgomery stayed during her first teaching position. We came after hours and called to make sure we could come late. What really made it worth it and was awesome was the reading. They conduct a small, prepared L.M. Montgomery reading with tea, cookies, and a raffle (for more cookies!). It was a pleasure meeting and talking to such kind and knowledgeable people. It is also a cool old house with lovely views! If you are coming just for the museum, plan to stay less than an hour. If you are coming for the reading too, plan a few hours at least!
