Excellent production. Walking distance of cruise pier. Great family activity.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 4, 2024
- Wlad FToronto, Canada62 contributions[Giggles]Beautiful play based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's novel series Anne of Green Gables, this is a two-acts theatre feature for all ages, with great actors and musicians. I loved the trio on the Piano, Cello and Violin is amazing, and feel the room with nice music. The 2024 cast also nails it all, leaving you with a wish it to be longer. I am not going to comment on the plot, but it is engaging and fun. Fans will have a good time, guaranteed! There are scenes where characters briefly kiss, so you might want to have it in mind if you are bringing your 2 to 5 year-olds, some people might be sensitive to this. They serve pop, chips and licor. I actually mistakenly got a raspberry cordial with Vodka, but that's fine.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten August 16, 2024
- Annick B1 contributionBest Musical I’ve ever seenAs a huge fan of both the books and the movies I was seriously blown away !!! This was such a treat, I think I smiled the whole time. The cast seemed to be hand picked to fit each character to perfection ❤️ It brought so many great moments of happiness, laughs and even a few tears. I came from Montreal to see this and Im going home feeling ecstatic that I got to see this musical here in PEI !! If you’re ever in PEI, this is a MUST !!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 30, 2024

What a great experience! We are from out of province, and this musical seemed to be the perfect way to wrap up our Anne of Green Gables tourist adventures. The actors were excellent, the songs were so fun and all in all it was a terrific experience. I only wish they would have sold more at the sales table.

Overall a fun time. Thought the casting was off, all the characters were too old for the roles..Anne looked 40. Good songs, nice theater, just wrong casting the one boy in the procuction was way too old for a pupil.

As part of our "Anna of Green Gable's visit to PEI " we had to see the play! The theater is located on the main street in town. Apparently they allow children in the audience. The people sitting to my left ---had a two-year-old, who was pretty well-behaved. I'm only glad that I was not sitting further back, because I did notice periodically that the parents were there and gone several times. Had I been behind them I would've found the coming and going annoying.
The play itself is not a direct replica of the story that happened in the book. Our family completely enjoyed our experience watching this play! It was really fantastic.
I would highly recommend this play, we sat in the front row which was a little close. The actors were top notch, and the kid actors were fantastic!
Here's a tip! Because the theater is extremely small, consider sitting mid center. You'll get a much better experience. Also, there's not much to do during the intermission, so if the weathers nice ----step outside!
Please press "helpful "if you found this review insightful, as I wonder if anyone actually reads these......

So . . . we had never visited PEI before, and we wanted to do something nice one evening. This play sounded fun. I had only passing knowledge of Anne of Green Gables—my daughter loved the books and movies, so this got my attention. I read many of the reviews here; the good ones--and the few bad ones. We attended the Sunday evening show on 6/11. Here’s our experience.
The theater is in a nice part of town. We arrived early and had dinner at a restaurant on the nearby Victoria Row. The waitress asked where we were going afterward, and when we told her Anne and Gilbert, she smirked and said it should be fun. (Note—we live in Orlando, so when tourists here gush about Disney—we smirk too. It’s all good.)
The theater is small—only 140ish seats. And as other reviewers have noted, there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Go for the cheap seats if available. We were in two of the lowest-priced seats—on the front row, stage right. The seats are comfortable—like well-padded banquet room chairs. Some of the reviewers reported the seats were uncomfortable, but this was not the case. A guest who is larger and wider might have some difficulty, but nothing else.
We were so close to the performance, I had to pull my legs back a few times for the skirts when the actors were performing. The director, Catherine O’Brien also plays the part of Marilla, and she did her solo of “When He Was My Beau” right in front of us. And I wish I could have told her—it was one of the finest performances of the night and far better than the recorded version. (Because I went back and listened.)
Some of the “other reviews” likened this to bad community theater. I’m not a theater reviewer so I don’t pretend to know a lot, but I’ve seen bad community theater. This show was wonderful, so disregard the hate. Most of these actors are young—late teens to 20’s—and they aren’t here by accident. They, along with the musicians, set staff, and everyone were on top of their game.
Other reviewers commented that the show runs a little long—It started at 7:00 PM and we weren’t out until after 10. Both acts are about an hour and 20 minutes, with a 20 minute intermission. Downstairs is a pleasant little counter in an art gallery, where you can get coffee, wine, beer, etc., and you’re welcome to take them into the theater.
This play was one of the most pleasant experiences of our visit to PEI. Having worked for Disney, I understand how repeating a performance day in, and day out can get tiresome for the actors and crew. But it felt like these folks were doing it for the first time that night, and they were all just excellent. The songs are all lively and catchy, and the dancing that goes along with them is a lot of fun
Anyone who sees this show and doesn’t have a good time should probably have their heads examined. Since returning to Florida I keep humming, “You’re island! You’re island! You’re from Prince Edward Island!” (Maybe I should have MY head examined.) But it was a great night and I hope you’ll find the time to see this show.

This show was great all the way through- it’s about 2.5 hours for beginning to end, a very small theater which looks like doesn’t have any bad seats so probably wasn’t necessary to spend extra on front row. Music and cast were great! Wish they would have come out at the end to take a photo with the kids, but that’s ok. I loved it!

You wouldn't expect to see such a great play in a vacation area, but everything about this play is exceptional. The casting, script, and songs are top notch. Broadway quality in a five row playhouse. Unbelievable.
The 2018 Anne (Rebecca Parent) is exceptional.

Anne and Gilbert is staged in an intimate theatre setting and uses only 3 instruments to accompany the energetic cast and their choreography. It's full of excitement and enthusiasm, great dancing and singing and above all else, is completely engrossing and entertaining! Anyone who has seen the original Anne of Green Gables play will relish in this sequel. Disappointments have nothing to do with the play but rather everything to do with the theatre. Chairs were cramped for even a medium sized person and very uncomfortable to sit in for a long play. Bathrooms were tucked far away in the lower level and were too few. Lastly, the play is not for small children, (best guess, perhaps younger than 8-10) dealing with just a wee bit more mature content, as well as the length being too long for them.

My husband and I were so disappointed when our cruise that was to stop at Charlottetown for the day was cancelled.
We had prebooked tickets for this musical as I am a great 'Anne' fan.
Ticketpro very kindly gave us a full refund of the cost of our tickets even though they were rated as non-refundable.
When all this 'RONA' business is over or when a vaccine is available and we can travel safely again, we will be first in line to see this musical.
Thank you 'Ticketpro' and 'The Guild Theatre' for being so understanding!

The production was excellent! I actually preferred it over the Anne of Green Gable show at The Confederation Center. We especially loved the music and dancing. A few times, the show had me in tears. Only a few rows of seating, had you feeling like you were part of the show! My only recommendation would be to install theater seating and not just chairs. Both my teenagers want to see it again and we bought the CD to listen to the music.

This is the third time I have seen this play since it’s inception. (Waterfront theatre, 2013 and now, almost summer 2018)
The actors are spot on, the music and lyrics so well interweaved, expounding the history (that would be hard to show otherwise), that you find yourself completely caught up in the storyline. You will laugh, and you might find your heartstrings pulled a little .... or a lot.
Good choices on the characters! Our beloved Anne and Gilbert, Diana, and yes, Gilbert’s forever admirer, Josie Pye, were all so perfectly cast. Every character, from Paul Irving (a “CFA” ) to wise Marilla, added so much.
A small theatre, space well used, a set that I loved, and The Guild staff display a helpful and cheerful attitude. CDs of the music are available and there is an intermission where you can obtain light refreshments.
The seating leaves a bit to be desired as far as comfort level goes, and I wouldn’t personally recommend the front row.
2018 Anne & Gilbert at The Guild in downtown Charlottown is a winner, regardless of how many times you have seen it or how familiar you are with the story.

In June I will go to PEI for the first time and take two granddaughters. We will see the Anne and Gilbert show, but is the "package" useful and worth the extra cost?
Written April 27, 2019

The package saves you about $10...and is easy to use...you get one ticket which you show to each attraction.
Written June 17, 2019
Does it matter where you sit given that the venue is so small? eg, is it worth buying "best view" tickets.
Written June 28, 2018
I saw the show twice - first time I paid for the premium seat - I was centre in the last row, and it was great. Second time I went was just for the experience, so paid for a cheaper ticket by the band - you’re still so close that you see everything, but I do recommend splurging for the middle a couple of rows back for a first visit.

Is there a afternoon performance of Anne and Gilbert on Wednesday September 6?
How can I buy tickets?
Written August 25, 2017
I tried to copy and paste the link to the site where txts are sold but TripAdvisor doesn't permit website links in this answer area. Google "Anne and Gilbert Musical" and the website will come up.
It looks like there is a 1:00 performance on Wed Sept 6th.
Enjoy the show!

Is it ok to buy tickets in August at the door? Or would it likely be sold out? Thanks.

Most performances in August are sold out, sometimes weeks in advance. And some sections of the theatre are sold out months in advance.

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
