I found this shrine to Saint Joseph to be very impressive. Its presence at the top of Mount Royal is very striking in its size and in the beauty of the structure itself. There is a $5 charge to park, which is very reasonable. There is parking at the very top of the mountain near the entrance and escalators inside... More

We went with our granddaughters to visit the "museum of the nativity-crèche exposition" at the Oratory, unfortunately it was closed for Renovations. But the visit was just the same enjoyable: the chapel, the church itself, the story of Saint André and of course the view from the "outside Balcony". The girls were impressed by all the candles and the atmosphere... More

This is one of my favorite spots in Montreal. Nestled into the mountain, this church has a great back story, and its museum tells you all about how its founder, Brother Antoine and how the church was built. It also gives you a great view of Montreal!

My husband and I visited the Oratory and just could not get over the size of the structure!! The church is beautiful and we were fortunate to be there when someone was playing the organ. The sound was unbelievable.

From time to time I visit this incredible church and saint Andre's candles of prayers. It gives an amazing feeling of calmness, emotional fulfillment and uplifting spirits! It attracts different kinds of people and religions. If you're lucky, there will be a mass in progress! Masses are also seen on TV or Internet every morning at 08:30.

The Oratory was quite impressive from the bottom of the hill as you come up the steps. I found the interior to be somewhat jarring when compared to the style of the outside.

I love coming to this church. You can pray by yourself or attend the mass. it's really popular with tourists and there is a great view of the city especially during sunset. A piece of history and you will learn a great deal about the neighborhood as well

Staying in Parc du Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.
