The Oratory is located a short walk from a Metro stop. The site is beautiful, with wonderful views from the exterior. The interior of the building is quite impressive, particularly if you enjoy stained glass. There is a garden that is also worth a walk through. If you want a nice hike, it is possible to walk from here through... More

Went on a wet Thursday morning Accessible via the metro and a short walk.Upon arrival at the entrance a mini bus can take you up the hill to the oratory or you could as I witnessed a person climbing up the stairs on his knees as a form of pilgrimage Once inside this huge building you can trace the life... Only got a quick look at church from lower parking area as part of a bus tour. Looks amazing, especially with its commanding location and architecture. A must see when we go to Montreal again.

This is a beautiful place to visit. It sits high on the hill above Montreal, but don't worry if you aren't up for the treck up all the steps, there is a shuttle bus that picks you up at the bottom of the hill. The building is beautifully crafted, with more marble than I have ever seen. No matter what... More

I've been here several times. There's free parking and free entrances. The interior is really average in terms of architecture; however, what blows my mind every time I visit is the size of this church and the view of the city from up top - it is absolutely breathtaking!

Grand and serene. Strong sense of compassion and healing here. Well worth the extra effort to explore this vast and amazing space. Felt very awe struck by the stark grandeur. Not ornate and over done. Loved the votive room. Warm and reflective. Glad we got to see this special place.

Staying in Parc du Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.
