St. Joseph's reminded me of the Sacre Coeur in Paris. Probably over 100 steps to get to the cathedral. They have a middle section where people can walk up by kneeling each step. Inside was lovely and the view from the outside was pretty good. There was also an interesting walking path to the side of the cathedral that took... More

This is definitely worth the climb up the many steps (there is an elevator inside too) because the view from the top is beautiful. The chapel inside is fascinating and the displays showing the history well worth taking the time for. Also make sure to see the heart of Brother St Andre and walk around the gardens outside...very peaceful and... More

We came here on a sunny snowy day. There is a mini which will take to the church if you don't like to walk.

Staying in Parc du Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.
