You don't have to be catholic to feel awe and be amazed by this place. I'm not, and have been here some 100 times. Go to the back of the Basilica and look at the north and west sides of Montreal with a map to see what you're looking at. Walk down a flight to check out Brother Andre's heart... More

We were gonna go to Mont Royal, but one of the staff from Schwartz restaurant recommended this place, so we changed plans and headed here. It was a beautiful sunny day when we went, and it was just perfect for taking pictures. Anyway, I wasn't excited about this place because I was set on Mont Royal. I wanted to go... More

We decided to walk here from Mont Royal- took us about 35mins- and we're sooo glad we did. The church is massive from the outside but the interior just staggers belief. Five escalators to get into the basilica part itself. The basilica is quite modern in design. We're not particularly religious but we enjoyed our visit. The stained glass windows,... More

Apart from the impressive building, the view from up there is awesome. There are escalators to the top if you don't want to take the steps.

Staying in Parc du Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.
