Okay let's be honest, there isn't much to do here, but the place is peaceful and quiet, so it's a nice stop if you're walking around and shopping in the downtown area. Both interior and exterior very traditional and low key, but good for photography!

When you go to Montreal, you do not think to visit the Cathedral, as the Basilica is much more beautiful and old and gives you a taste of Old Montreal. However, when my friend and I entered this church, we were taken back with the beauty of it. It did not look like the original artwork and architecture, but was... More

It is right across the street from the train station and, if you like churches, it is well worth the visit! It reminded me of St. Peter's in Rome and it was so interesting to see the history of Montreal in the paintings of the cathedral.

This is one of the most beautiful buildings I visited in Montreal, It was enchanting. We were waking by when suddenly we heard a beautiful chorus, the voices were coming out of a speaker outside of the church, I really did not think that this voices were live, but when we entered for free to the church, we saw the... When we visit Montreal we walk from our hotel to this cathedral to attend mass on Sundays. Mass is in French only, but if you are Catholic, you know the drill. It's an amazing experience in any language. The architecture is gorgeous and the altar is modeled after St Peter Basilica in Rome, which I have had the pleasure to... More

This Cathedral will make you feel you are in an old basilica in Europe. It is peaceful and prayerful. It brought me great comfort to visit.

We visited on a very, very cold day in Dec (negative temps) and found many homeless quietly sitting in the sanctuary. Beautiful, old church and definitely a replica of St Peter's. While not as impressive (over the top) as Notre Dame, it is a more authentic experience of what visiting a church should be.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
