So bad, really it not the money it´s what it offers nowadays, I went on 29th August, the displays are so poor
Aug. 2020
Very poor exhibitions, nothing really interesting, most of the museum (top floor) closed, you should be ashamed to have a MAC of this quality in Montreal.

Make it free entrance, even that it is a waste of time really

Pleasant Way to Spend a Thursday Evening
Dec. 2019
I have visited this museum a number of times on past trips to Montreal. I have always found it worthy of a short visit of about half a day, which was also the case on this most recent visit. I had flown into Montreal that day, so the number of things I could do with the short time I had left for exploring made a visit during the museum's evening hours (until 9:00pm) a very good choice. The low senior and student rates also rendered the limited time frame less of a concern.

All of the current exhibitions are quite interesting. The Francis Alÿs videos of children's games are thought-provoking. Their universality is very apparent. I did find the video of the children pulling off grasshoppers' legs to be upsetting. I enjoyed the 1980s art of "Painting Nature With a Mirror," and the political content and unusual technique of William Kentridge's "Second Hand Reading" is quite engrossing. I enjoyed seeing the stylistic evolution of Janet Werner over the course of her career as well as the work of Luis Jacob and Serge Tousignant, particularly the colorful sculptures. The exhibit "Bleu de bleu" gave me some insight into a large work of Montreal public art, which I'd previously had no idea existed, in a visually compelling manner. The Gisele Amantea exhibit was even more "site specific," taking the MAC building itself and reimagining it as a gorgeous ruin. This was a great visit and I look forward to many more.

Current exhibitions make a visit worthwhile
Oct. 2019 • Friends
The permanent exhibition space is under renovation but the two temporary exhibits are well worth the visit and the price of admission has been cut to $5 per person.

Hit or Miss

You have to do your homework before you go. When the venue is small and the exhibitions few, you might conclude that your time is better spent elsewhere. My takeaway from Rebecca Belmore’s work was 50/50.

Exceptional expo that hit the heart
Aug. 2019
We often go to art to ''enjoy'' - but this particular expo was to challenge. Rebecca Belmore put together an exceptionally strong personal expression of crucial social issues in Canada - the loss and lack of care of indigenous women. This is what some art should do - strike you at the heart, and remind you of what matters in life - not politics, but humans and humanity.

A waste of time.

I was warned that none of the permanent collection was on diplay, but that I would enjoy the two artists that they were showing. This was not the case. The building was interesting but I don't know if the permanent collection is,as well.

Temporary Insanity
Jul. 2019 • Solo
‘We only do temporary exhibitions’ explained the man at the admissions desk. ‘First go upstairs.’ So up into a floor with six or so exhibition spaces showing the works of three or four young artists, a video installation whilst the British National
Anthem played; a duo of videos one showing the artist tied to huge plastic or woollen installations of her internal organs; in another room trying to outdo Tracey Emin displaying her life’s detritus; performance art in a toilet of a visitor stripping naked then placing his green admission sticker on his nipple; installation called empty restaurant space complete with menu on a music stand and an alcohol licence; a funky atrium with chrome and concrete elements.

sorrow is not always sorrow
Jul. 2019 • Couples
We stumbled on an incredible exhibition by an artist named Ragnar Kjartansson who collaborated with the music group The National called "A lot of Sorrow"... If you have a chance to see it before it closes on the 28th of July try to see it.... the piece is a 6 hour performance but of course you can stay for as long as you like.. It sounds odd to describe it but the feelings as quite overwhelming if you give yourself the time.... the premise is the group sings the same song "Sorrow" for 6 hours straight but everyone seems different...
The rest of museum is wonderful but honestly after spending 1 1/2 hours in the show it was hard to focus on anything else....
