The boaters (both motorized and paddled), and surfers all enjoy Lachine Canal. The rapids were a highlight from the shore, especially watching kayakers and surfers riding the waves.

My husband & I biked & walked parts of the Lachine Canal this summer and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The bike paths in Montreal are unparalleled and The Lachine Canal path was a fabulous day!

Great bike ride from old Montreal out to the Rene Levesque park along the canal. Can stop at the Atwater Market for lunch / coffee as well. Return along the St Laurence side for nice views.

Rented our bikes at Ma Bicyclette on Gare Viger, headed out to the locks and back towards Atwood Market. Had a great beer and lunch at Burgandy Lion on Notre Dame just around the corner. Easy bike for those that don't do a lot of riding.

Ideal spot to spend a sunny day with friends and family. The bike path is dotted with many attractions with restaurants, market and quiet parks within a few blocks from the path. There are rental bikes, roller blades, kayaks, small electric power boats and pedalos. In the evening you have nice views on the city as well as regular special... More

An idyllic trail meandering along the Lachine Canal. Close to the city yet far removed from it. Two spots to recommend. The end of the trip relaxing at a waterside park in Lachine. The other is Montreal's iconic Atwater market, an emporium of fresh produce, baked goods, homestyle ice cream and more. A perfect spot to unwind after your round... More

A lovely place to shop or have a tasty lunch, the canal brings many people of all ages and the fact that there is a bike path which follows a canal of water, you can also see the building development of condos running along the path.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
