Great venue for shows , buy tickets from their web site , Quebec’s oldest show venue with lots of history.
Seats about 300or so , used to be national theatre school , it’s a very popular venue

Wonderful sounding venue. One rude staff member but will not let that ruin. We went for Christian McBride during the Jazz fest, good times.

We were able to use a meeting room in Monument National for our group to meet and the room was spacious, high ceilings, beautiful woodwork. The only drawback is no Air Conditioning and it was over 80 degrees outside. Ceiling fans would have been nice.

Upon entering this theatre, you are immediately taken back in time. The seats are comfortable, well spaced and a beautiful rich scarlet color. The theatre has excellent acoustics & all seats are cozy to the stage. We saw Oliver Jones & oh his piano playing was superb & we were able to hear every note. I would definitely go back to a show at Monument National - it was a lovely find for me even after having lived in Montreal so very many years!.

Well actually the Métropolis is older and larger but it is not really used as a theater nowadays and it is more of a dance club than anyting else.
Monument National on the other hand has been a lively theater from the last part of the XIX Century till now.
If might surprise you as this fairly large theater in located on the second and third floors of a large multipurpose building. In fact the original plans were to use it as an auditorium for conférences, etc but rapidly became the venue for theater in French, English and even Yiddish!
Nowadays the theater has been renovated but keeping most of the XIX Century decor, even some of the old seats in the back sections (ouch, no padding) and also notice that the stage is slanted, probably the only one in North-America. It house the technical cursus of the National Theater School of Canada and feature shows in both French and English done by the acting graduating students during the school year. Otherwise it is rented for independent productions but the School has priority except during the summer recess when the theater is rented for some of the Festivals that occurs in Montréal then.
Note that there is also a small «black box» experimental theater at the street level, sometimes used by the School but most often for independent small productions.
