After booking the Mile End tour with this group, we found that the directions included in the email following our confirmation for this tour were terrible. If you are not traveling in Montreal with a car, the walk from the metro is too complicated according to the directions which are provided by this tour group. After leaving the metro and getting lost, I had to call the company and they could not give me directions to the meeting point from where I was. I was told that my best option was to take a cab and hope that I got there before the group left the first stop. However, the first meeting point is a restaurant chain with multiple locations. So, once I was in a cab and saw a restaurant with the same name as the meeting place, I assumed that I had arrived. I was rudely told on the phone that there were multiple locations and I had to meet the group at another stop, but that the guide would save our food and bring it with them when we caught up. Thank God for the kind, local people of Montreal who helped me get on a bus which helped me get to the third stop on the food tour. I was able to backtrack and meet up with the group on the second stop, a lovely chocolate shop which I would have loved to have purchased gifts and goodies, however, you are not allowed to shop on the tour. Our guide then told my partner and I that our sandwiches from the first stop were waiting at the restaurant and that she instructed the people at the restaurant not to throw them out. She neglected to ever tell us how to get there to retrieve them. Maybe they're still waiting. The tour stops at a couple great spots in Mile End but the businesses are being hurt by this tour because none of the customers get to shop during the tour and a large majority, including myself, do not have the time to return to the stores after the tour. The tour covers a ridiculous amount of territory in Mile End, so once the tour is finished, you are so tired and far away from those delicious shops from the beginning of the tour, that you cannot go. One of the stops is an out of the way historic movie theatre, and while it was extremely nice, I'm unsure what that has to do with a walking food tour. Your lunch includes gnocchi which you are given on a nice glass plate but must eat on the curb of a busy street because there is no where to sit. If you DO decide to book this tour, be sure to bring lots of water because a scarce amount of water is provided at a few stops to ration amongst you and the other 17 people on the tour. While our guide was knowledgeable and had interesting things to say about the neighborhood, this tour has definite ways to improve. The tour groups are too big, and you need to be able to buy things you sample.
