The Local Montreal Food Tour was an absolute highlight of our recent trip to Montreal. Despite it being a bitterly cold day (my fiancée and I are native New Englanders so we're no strangers to the cold), our tour guide Christian was an absolute pleasure. He had plenty of off-the-cuff jokes that felt fresh and friendly, and kept everybody in... More

If you love food and getting to know the history of a place, this is a great tour. It takes in 7 food stops in Old Montreal (Vieux Montreal) that are connected to the history of the city. It may seem odd to eat Portuguese food or Fish & Chips in Montreal, but once you hear how they integrate into... More

It was cold outside but we (my wife and I) had a great tour of the Old Montreal area and local eateries. We discovered a number of places we wouldn't have thought to stop at normally. Our guide, Sandy, was very knowlegeable and did a great job keeping us all informed, engaged and entertained despite the weather. There wasn't a... More

Amazing experience, our tour guide Fran was amazing. Fully bilingual and blended history throughout the tour which I really enjoyed since I went for only a few days. If you like food and want to get to know the city this is totally a must!

Our tour guide was Darren Shore, who was quite knowledgeable, pleasant and helpful, pointing out interesting landmarks along the way and answering all of our questions. We were in a group of 10 people, half Canadian and half American. Darren shared stories about the city's history, the original walled fortifications, the Old Port, the Notre-Dame Basilica, public squares and much... More

Fun walking tour in Old Montreal. Our guide, Vera Khouri, has a great sense of humour, and her knowledge of Montreal's history and food culture made this tour very enjoyable.

Hi Holly Belle, Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, we truly appreciate it! We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our guide Françoise so much- she is indeed a gem. It is also true that some of the places we visit are on the smaller side. We choose our food tasting locations based on... More

Our guide on the Old Montreal food tour, Vera, was fun and really knew her stuff. The locations at which we stopped offered a terrific variety of food and really showed the diversity of Montreal cuisine. However, this isn't just a fabulous food tour of seven great locations with delicious food. Vera provided running commentary on the social, cultural and... More

Our tour guide, Christian, was full of personality, historical information and genuine warmth and enthusiasm. We were a group of 16; some Aussies, New Yorkers and Canadians. The food stops were informative, delicious and by the end, we felt we had had enough to eat. It was a 3 hour tour, but it didn't feel that long. There were enough... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
