Recently enjoyed a great kayak tour of the lagoons in Parc Jean-Drapeau. It ended up being a private tour - not sure if that's just because nobody else signed up. Our young guide Mathieu was very friendly and knowledgable. It was a peaceful, quiet getaway from the city, and not a strenuous paddle. After the kayak tour, we spent some time at the beach because somehow I ended up paying for park passes and I don't think I needed to for the kayak tour - I think there was a bit of translation confusion with the young guy in the ticket booth. The beach was not the greatest - the sand was very muddy, but it had rained the day before. There were also a lot of bugs flying around - probably also due to the rain. But we had a nice lunch from the food truck on the patio, and there is a bar there as well. All in all, a good way to spend the morning in Montreal!

This is the worst Segway tour we have experienced in the last 10 Segway tours we have taken in the Americas by far.

Firstly it was advertised as a tour, in reality it was six people following a silent leader around an area within a kilometre of the start point, often repeating the same part of the route. The staff member offered one bit of information - “the sand was imported from Florida”.

In detail:

We booked the tour online for 1300 the following day, the booking process was quick and efficient.

We received a fairly detailed email in both English and French, advising us of where to park our car, where the Segway HQ was located and what time to be there.

We arrived early as the email said there would be 15 minutes of training prior to the tour.

A staff member arrived at 1305 and started to unlock the container and prepare all the equipment, during this time a form was passed out to ourselves and two other couples who had booked the same tour.

The solitary staff member also stopped to take a booking for a future tour of a passer by, thus delaying our tour further.

7 Segways were prepared by 1340, safety hats were handed out, although two were broken and needed to be exchanged.

The member of staff asked if anyone had used a Segway before, which everyone replied they had, no further information was asked by the member of staff who collected their own helmet, tucked the chin straps under the helmet rather than wearing it correctly and said this way and we all followed.

There had been no introduction or any explanation of what to do or emergency procedures etc.

What happened next was tantamount to being dangerous. The staff member lead the group around the immediate area on pavements, weaving through members of the public walking with their families.

There was one stop where the member of staff said the sand was imported from Florida, beyond that information was gleamed by discussion amongst the riders who had some knowledge of the area.

The tour was not a tour, more of a follow the leader weaving in and out of walking public, some who were elderly and concerned to see seven fast moving objects heading towards them. Soon after starting my wife and I moved onto the road, which was shut off to traffic and was primarily used by cyclists, other members of the group followed suit by the staff member stayed on the pavement.

After about 40 minutes the staff member started to lead the group towards a restricted path which we had already done, my wife and I took the opportunity to return to the Segway HQ and await their return, which as others too returned it was about 5 minutes later everyone else returned.

During the ‘tour’ two of the Segways had problems and one lady struggled with the uneven terrain and incline due to low power issues.

In summary, not a professional experience from equipment through to staff and public interaction.

This may be a fairly new company, but they need to carry out some staff training with other Segway tour companies, if only for the safety of riders and the general public.

My wife and I had the pleasure of taking a sunset Segway tour of Montreal. Let me say right away that I am 60, and she is 54. We are not particularly fit or particularly heavy - just average, and we have enjoyed Segways in four different cities. If you can get up on the doctor's scale, you can get up on a Segway. We did not book a private tour, but we were the only two on it, which made the experience even more special because we had the undivided attention of our excellent tour guide. I highly recommend the sunset tour because you get to see the see during the daylight and after the sun goes down, which was a beautiful experience. In addition, there were hardly any pedestrians on the walkways, so we did not have to avoid crowds. The walkways are away from traffic, very wide, and extremely safe. The guide did an excellent job of making sure that we were comfortable and able to keep up and adapted the tour to our pace, whether that was fast or slow. The guide was a young man who knew the city well as well as tidbits of history and culture that would not be obvious to the average tourist. I can't say enough about this experience, the enjoyment, and the value. I highly recommend it for everyone as a way to explore much more of the city than you would be able to do on foot.

The Segway tour was a lot of fun. Content "light" --- not very serious, or deep, but it gave an overview of the Old Port, and some of its features.
Communication should be vastly improved. There's almost no signage on the outside of their location --- a shipping container. Our guide arrived at 12:57 for a 1 o'clock tour, which is fine, but we didn't know where we should meet him or whether he would even show up. And their telephone system is useless; you call, get a message, and then a click. Those two aspects must be fixed.

I got this as part of the Montreal Tourism package- I was excited to book. Emailed on a Wednesday, did not hear back until following Tuesday. I tired calling multiple times between then, no answer and no ability to leave a message.
Looked for them in the Old Port area to talk to someone in person, the person working there had no idea what I was talking about. Just about decided to look for a new option with someone else when they emailed me back that night.
Got to the kayaking early, other group was late so we ended up waiting over 20 minutes to start.
Guides were friendly, but could not hear anything one was saying as she was facing away from us and speaking very quietly. I asked them to speak up a few times. The kayaking through the lagoon was beautiful! Very scenic. Guides could use some more training on projecting voices.

Hello, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. We have indeed noticed there was a flaw in our communication system. We have implemented different mesures to improve on that and increase our responsiveness. Our guides are constantly undergoing training to improve our tours. We'll be sure to mention voice projecting as an element to be worked on. Once again thank you very much for partaking in our tour and we hope you had a great time.

My husband and 15-year old daughter did the Segway tour of the Old Port. They really enjoyed it. Taking a Segway tour was on my daughter's bucket list, so she was very excited. They said the Segways were fun to ride. They also learned a lot about the Old Port and taught me and our other daughter some things after the tour. They would both highly recommend.

Thomas our tour guide / instructor was so informative friendly and really made me feel comfortable as this was my first time in Montreal and on segway.
During our tour, I had a little issue with my Segway which made me feel disappointed when heard there was not another Segway available, but Thomas saved the day and we went on to enjoy the tour! We also took Thomas's recommendation for dinner at the Jardin Nelson . I highly recommend this tour when visiting old Montreal

We did 2 tours with them so I'll review them separately. I booked both online and initially booked a tour that no longer exists and so they emailed me about a week later to point this out and ask if we wanted to reschedule to a different tour or get a refund (we rescheduled to a different tour). Also, their website is not good and parts are very outdated, plus there's no information around cancelation policy or refund policy or what happens in case of bad weather (or even what constitutes bad weather).

The first tour we did was the Segway tour of the Old Port. We showed up about 10 minutes before the start of the tour and saw nobody and no signage. Finally after walking around for a while we noticed a shipping container that had a small poster on it that said Montreal Eco Tours and a couple minutes later a young guy showed up on a bike with a shirt that said "tours". We eventually realized he was our tour guide and the only sign that Montreal Eco Tours existed. He opened the shipping container and gave us each a helmet and Segway and we did about 10 minutes of training on them then we were off. Once the tour got going, it was awesome! The guide was funny and knowledgable and on the Segway we covered a huge amount of distance along the Old Port in 1 hour. We started about 15 mins late but ended about 15 mins late so we did get our full hour. I'd definitely recommend this tour.

The second tour we did was the bike tour of Parc Jean-Drapeau. This shipping container was easier to find and had more signage. We arrived 10 minutes early and found 1 person setting things up and he said that the tour started in 10 minutes and to come back then. We came back right when the tour was supposed to start and only then were we allowed to start checking in and filling out other paperwork. We were then told that there was another group on our tour and so we had to wait for them. We waited about 20 minutes for them to finally show up and by the time they filled out paperwork and we got helmet and bikes we started the actual tour almost 30 minutes late. We covered a decent amount of ground on the 2 islands on the bike and saw lots of cool sights (including biking on the F1 track!). We had many short stops to take photos and rest, which was nice, and the guides were friendly and knowledgable. Unfortunately we didn't get to go up to the north end of the park to see Le Ronde and the tour ended just a few minutes later than it was scheduled to, which means that we paid for a 2 hour tour but only really got a 1.5 hour tour. While this was an interesting and fun tour, I'm not sure I'd recommend it based on the customer service and starting so late.

Hi jsilverman83, Thank you for the time to leave such a detailed review. We've taken all your comments in consideration and have shared them with the appropriate teams in order to improve on both our tours, our website, our customer service, and our on site signage/marketing. Our bike tour at Jean Drapeau does not cover the north end of the park and La Ronde unfortunately but we'll be sure to look into how we can maybe incorporate it in one of our tours next season. Thank you for partaking in two of our tours, We do hope to see you again soon.
