About
The columned neoclassical building erected in 1926 as the city's main criminal court is today the home of the Québec Court of Appeal. The building had served as a music conservatory for 32 years, starting in 1970. Its massive bronze doors are richly carved and the vast main hall has dome-shape skylights and travertine facing. Métro: Champ-de-Mars.

It's a court building that you can fine in Old Montreal. It is impressive and I recommend a long slow walk along Rue Notre Dame to drink in all the history.

This impressive building with its neo-classical facade designed by architects Louis-Auguste Amos, Charles Jewett Saxe and Ernest Cormier was built between 1922 and 1926 and opened as Montreal’s principal courthouse. It was replaced by the current modernistic Palais de Justice across the road in 1974 and served as a music academy before being re-named Édifice Ernest-Cormier in 1980 since when it has served as one of the two sites of Quebec’s Court of Appeal the other one being in Quebec City. It hears appeals from the Quebec Superior Court.

This is a fantastically impressive building which just oozes class and style from every pore.
Rightfully situated in the Montreal Old Town area this imposing edifice is a positive joy on the eye.
Characterful and historically relevant - if you get a chance to have a look at it !
