This tour was an excellent introduction to the city of Montreal. It made us discover the city and its iconic places in an interesting and fun way, listening to lots of anecdotes and historical facts narrated by our guide. I recommend it 100%.

Our tour guide Laura was very enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. She is clearly passionate about the city of Montreal and it made it a great experience to have a tour guide show such enthusiasm and knowledge.
Highly recommended!

get the low down on all things in Old Montreal, we had limited time in the city and Darren the guide was most knowledgeable and personable.
note: tips are expected, we are from Australia and don't have a tipping culture, we thought $50 CAD was a fair price for us as a couple - considering there were 30-40 people on the tour the day we went. 03/29/23

Sandy led us on a fantastic tour. She was informative, passionate, and interesting. She knows the city extremely well, whether it’s explaining it’s history or recommending great places to eat and drink she will answer all your questions. She recommended Bistro a JoJo for music and that was a great last night event for my girlfriend and I. Recommend you take the tour on the first day so you have a better idea about where to explore for the following days.

While our guide was energetic, enthusiastic and full of interesting trivia, a group of 40-50 was excessive. It was hard to get in a good position to hear her at each stop. The large group also slowed us down as we ran over about 30 minutes. I didn't ask questions as the group was behind schedule and so large. What's the point of making reservations? I've taken such tours all over and the cut off as has always been 10-20, then they start another group with another guide. Small groups add much more to the experience.

We were 4 women friends on a trip to Montreal , and this tour gave us all the info we needed to put the map away and soak in the culture and history of this vibrant cosmopolitan city. We had a group of 30 people on the tour, and that was not a problem as we made 6 stops and our guide spoke at eachstop. He had a great depth of knowledge and would make a terrific professer! Very gifted teacher! Do not hesitate to take this tour!!

Our guide was super nice and she new a lot about Montreal. The meeting point was easy to find. The tour was interesting and you are going to learn new things about the history of the city and its people. After the tour, you have a better orientation in the city and you have seen a lot of amazing places, a normal tourist won´t see.

The tour was amazing! Our tour guide, Mr. D, did an incredible job - the entire group was fully engaged, entertained and excited to learn more. He was very passionate about Montreal and the city's history, and that passion was quite contagious (in the best way possible!). I would highly recommend this walking tour to anyone visiting Montreal, it really is a great way to learn about the city and get some helpful tips from a local person!

We were in Montreal this past week after the borders from USA finally opened. We had a Free Walking Tour booked with Sandrine. She was extremely informative, told some great stories about the history of Montreal and Canada and really kept everyone informed. She recommended a dinner place to me which I tried and she NAILED IT!!! Amazing Smoked Meat sandwich that just melted in my mouth. Also got some bagels next morning on the ride back home and she nailed it again with her recommendation. Never thought you could beat a New York bagel... Learned a lot more than doing the trip on my own and glad we had the pleasure of meeting her...

Worse than useless. They never showed. There were two dozen people anxiously awaiting the tour guide. Two by two all started leaving beginning at 15 minutes after. There was no way to contact the tour company, if in fact it is a company, and they didn’t reach out to any of their numerous awaiting guests. Completely throws off our schedule and wasted a morning in this beautiful city. Complete disregard for their “customers”.

What's the difference between this and the paid walking tours?
Written June 16, 2019
The difference is the tips because in paid walking tour you’re not obliged to give tips. But in free walking tour the tour guide’s income depend on the tips given to him by his group. Also, I found the tour guides in free tours are more passionate in what they do and give you more insights and hidden treasures ( where to get reasonable souvenirs, food etc.) of the city than the paid tours. I said these things because I did both the paid and free tours in which I prefer the free tours. Also, the free tours depend upon the availability of the tour guides in which it might be available every day. I hope these insights will help you decide which one is to book.

How do we sign up for free walking tour? Every time I click on free Montreal walking tours I am sent to various food tours that are not free. Very frustrating! We are staying near the Basillica so want something in that vicinity.

They still have food tours (access via website already referenced) but these are not the usual free (pay what you want) tours. Still a walking tour so you need VERY WARM clothes. It is currently -11 Celsius and will be -20 on Jan 12.
