Drop in for old-times sake

If you're in the neighbourhood, worth dropping in to see how it is now, comparing to the old photos! The concourse remains but sadly the old track beds are long gone!

We went and had dinner in the restaurant here. It was decent. Food was good and moderately priced. Building was beautiful and definitely worth poking your head in.

A glass-covered great railway station 1900 Richardson style often used in movies. ..and sometimes used as a Ballroom (Daffodil Ball). It used to be the CPR main Railway Station 100 years ago. Today, it is used by Commuters heading to the West Island (Dorval, Beaconsfield, Rigaud..etc). The Canadians Hockey Forum is next door. There is a great barber store in... More

If walking nearby stop into this historic train station that has been converted into multi-use space keeping its architecture and some history. Check out the old schedule board now with photos and history. Train lobby still intact. Down below the station connects to the bell centre and the Canadians hall of fame.

...so what is there to do and why am I writing? Well, for starters, it is incredibly beautiful architecture and the main concourse (when not booked for events) is beautiful. There's now an outdoor reflecting pool and soon the hockey statues and engraved bricks should be returned (it's part of the ongoing construction chaos around the station). There is an... More

I love the old Windsor Station!! It reeks of history and significance! I'm very happy that they have converted the old station into the beautiful multi use facility it is, but they've kept the original train station feel. You can almost hear the trains moving in an out. It's beautiful!! I'd definitely recommend stopping by and visiting!!

Windsor station is an absolutely beautiful monument of old world construction that just adds to the magnificence of the downtown core.

If Union Station had anywhere to go to learn how to make a great train station for orderly people movement, this is the place to start with. The fact that the underground city is attached to it is just a great bonus. The way they check people at the gates is a very simple way to organize boarding.

It had to be an imposing building in tis day. Too bad it is being overshadowed by all the modern, glass structures right around it.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
