Neighbourhood: Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.

Interesting and worthwhile virtual tour
May 2021
Virtual adaptation of "Making Their Mark" was fascinating during a time that it is not possible to visit the museum or Montreal in person. The tour guide and museum staff are very knowledgeable about the history of the Jewish community. They are also knowledgeable about how to use the chat to interact with the participants in a virtual community.

Great online tour for a school group!
Apr. 2021
The guide was excellent and very well spoken. We really enjoyed listening to the history and viewing the photos and map together from the safety of our classrooms and homes for this online virtual tour experience during the pandemic when we could not gather in person.

virtual touVirtual Zoom Tour - “Making Their Mark: A Virtual Tour of Historic Jewish Montréal”
Apr. 2021 • Friends
Was was thrilled to have attended the virtual tour-Making Their Mark: A Virtual Tour of Historic Jewish Montréal, today — Hannah was incredible, so much research had to have been involved. When I travel to different cities all over the world, my first tour is always a Jewish history tour. Our “virtual tour guide” Hannah, was challenged to turn a walking tour into a ZOOM tour. She was able to orient us with highlighted maps, very special pictures, fascinating history and had sound clips - so cool.. Great insight into early Jewish Montrealers lives. I highly recommend attending this tour, regardless of where you are in the world. It was incredible to see how the Jewish immigrants adapted and lived surrounded by many hardships-financial and antisemitism.

Return to my Roots in Montreal
Dec. 2020
I am originally from Montreal. I now live in Victoria BC. I took this virtual tour on Zoom with 2 other participants. The tour leader was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and keen to share the Jewish history of Montreal. The tour took us to 8 sites in the Plateau; I could easily have carried on to more. My family has been in Montreal since 1910, I am quite familiar with my own family history but not of the full experience of the early 1900s, nor of the early Montreal Jewish pioneers. I very much enjoyed the stories, photos, recordings of street sounds and Yiddish spoken. I saw the photos of first Folk and Peretz Shules, which I attended when Folk Shule moved to Van Horne. Memories from my parents' and grandparents' days were heartwarming. I would be thrilled to partake in other tours when they are developed. Carry on this important work.

Making Their Mark - An excellent Tour
Aug. 2020
Having spent 5 years in Montreal in my early 20s, learning of the history and culture of the neighborhoods I thought I knew was an enlightening experience. The tour was meticulously put together and provided wonderful historical context. The guide, Kate, was very knowledgeable and was also able to answer questions that did not specifically relate to the content of the tour. She was able to bring a human context to the historical facts, which greatly enhanced the experience of the tour. I can't wait to do the other tours! Would highly recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in history or the cultural development of Montreal.

Jewish Museum of Montreal - In the Shadow of the Mountain
Aug. 2020
My husband and I really enjoyed the 90 minute "In the Shadow of the Mountain tour". Our guide Lara was very knowledgeable and personable. The pace of the tour was perfect: she provided lots of engaging anecdotes and information, but we still had ample time for questions and photos. It is a great way to explore a fascinating corner of Montreal. We look forward to trying other tours with this museum in the future.

Tourists in our own city
Jul. 2020 • Couples
We just had a wonderful walking tour with one of the summer students at the Jewish museum. I think her name was Lara. It was so interesting and Informative. And our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. We’re from Montreal and enjoyed learning things about our own city! We liked it so much that we decide to book a second tour with them tomorrow!

I have been on this tour as well as others, and they have all been informative, interesting, and entertaining. The guides are well prepared and are usually able to answer questions. This is a really good way of getting to know the lesser-known areas of Montréal, even back alleys, and notice the symbols and architecture which show the Jewish origins of many buildings that now have other purposes. Highly recommended!
