About
Obsidem Games offers unique and interactive live-action adventure games in which players become active participants in our stories and must work as a team to solve intriguing problems, escape from precarious situations, and unravel the plot before time runs out! Inspired by video games, TV shows and movies, our goal is to bring these experiences to life and challenge you in a thrilling way, all while giving you a sense of total immersion, using only the most realistic environments we could build. How does it all work? Before participating in one of our scenarios, your team will be briefed on the story, your roles and objectives, but once you're inside the room - you're on your own! You'll need to explore your surroundings, make use of logic and be relentlessly resourceful if you want to succeed. If you're ready for a challenge and looking for something to do in Montreal that's out of the ordinary, then this is for you! Bring your friends, family or co-workers and strengthen relationships through teamwork by trying out one of our 4 uniquely challenging scenarios. It's the ultimate attraction! Great for adults and teens alike.

Named for the Olympic Stadium complexes built for the 1976 games, the Olympic Park and the surrounding neighbourhood of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (HoMa) make up an invigorated area dedicated to "Space for Life." Around the Olympic Village's arenas and stadiums, Rue Sherbrooke welcomes exploration of its sculpture gardens decorated in the works of Jean-Paul Riopelle and its museum culture headed by the historical Château Dufresne. Maisonneuve Park offers interactive experiences at its bio-dome, insectarium, planetarium, and botanical gardens. For a change of scene, the gentrified space along Rue Ontario Est is packed with the city's newest, edgiest cafes, where an imaginative, youthful crowd sips foamy cappuccinos. A visit here is incomplete without stepping into the vast halls of the Maisonneuve Market, with flower stalls, wine depots, and local produce.

We did the 90-minute Project X. The group is split into two teams; one group are captives of the evil "Obsidem Corp", and the other are a team who've arrived to break them out. Once the captives are released, the two teams have to work together on a heist. The game included several clever puzzles, and the teams had to work together (via text messaging) to help each other out. The occasional hints from the staff were subtle, and helpful without being obvious. Very entertaining.

PREFACE: I have played over 60 escape rooms combined and work at one in the States. My party played this game "English Only", 4 players, 90 minute variant. We lost after 90 minutes.

IN A NUTSHELL: We did not enjoy it. Project X's attempt at realism and glitches compromised the game ("guard component", incomplete reset, and computer puzzles).

We played Project X last summer when last visited Montreal. We were intrigued by the 90 minute concept, and excited to see what Obsidem (whose site promised immersion and a twist of classic escape games) had in store.

And twists they had indeed! First, it wasn't about "escaping" per se, but about earning as many points as possible during your time. Escaping would earn you the most points, and other story objectives would likewise grant you points as well based on their difficulty to achieve in-game. Our party was split into "prisoners" and "rescuers" at the onset. The rescuers were given a bag of spy tools to be used throughout the game, and both teams were given a phone/tablet with which to communicate with command. Furthermore, we were warned that a "guard" would patrol the game every 15 minutes, and failure to hide from him would jeopardize our ability to win.

We were hyped as we entered the game, but soon our progress (and enthusiasm) came to a screeching halt. Within minutes, technical glitches started to compromised the experience, prompting the game to be paused mid-action. I spent the at least 70 minutes repeating the same actions: texting (literally texting) clues to my prisoner team, texting my GM about guards, hiding from a guard, and looking at a computer screen. The guard component was especially aggravating, as it caused you to stop what you were doing and hide for 5 minutes out of every 15 minutes you spent in the game!

To top it all off, another chamber in the game was rife with technical malfunctions. Files needed on yet another computer had been deleted by a previous group and not reinstalled for our game, so we wasted lots of time searching for files that didn't exist. Even worse, we lost the game working on a puzzle that we had solved correctly, but didn't function (we were told we failed because we were only 99.99% accurate with the placement of our items - the system didn't trigger because we were off by less than a quarter of an inch). We left feeling thoroughly frustrated.

Looking back on it, I felt like I had paid to spend 90 minutes working as a mall security guard. I respect what Project X attempted to do, but the whole experience was a regrettable one. From malfunctioning puzzles, an incomplete room reset, and a game design that featured an hour and a half of texting and typing, it was a poor example of what an escape room should be. Hopefully others have more fun!

Went with a large group of partially disorganized coworkers. Staff was very friendly and patient. Games were very interesting and a lot of fun. Two thumbs up.

This was my 51st escape room. I found the attention to detail in the storyline and the puzzle design to be exemplary. I was quite tickled by the whole thing and couldn't stop raving to my friends about it afterward. Very original concept and design, would definitely come back to see their other games!

These escape rooms are story-driven and inventive! We had a great time closing portals between dimensions and solving an explosive murder case. The puzzles were challenging and inventive, and each of the rooms we did required us to think differently to get out. We can't wait to try the other rooms next time we're in Montreal!

My husband and I really enjoyed our room escape attempt at Obsidem Games! It is the only place I've ever heard of that has a room suited for 2 people (The Study) and we liked not having to play with strangers. We didn't escape but came very close! We felt the puzzles were a good level of difficulty for beginners like us and enjoyed a couple surprises along the way.

By far, the best escape-the-room game in Montreal. Most of the puzzles are original and thematic. Most other rooms involve figuring out a combination to open a lock.

The top three rooms, in my opinion, in order:
1. Project X
2. The Trap
3. Dynamic Duo

This room is centred around instinct and your own wits. There were no fancy locks with codes, riddles and puzzles. It was very different from what I am used to and it was a lot of fun. We did not escape. I wish we had had more time. Obsidem is my favourite escape room company in Montreal!!

We were three people and we did the Trap. It was an adventure game, not an escape room (goal was to solve the crime/complete the mission, not escape the room). We had a blast, the room was a good combination of search/seeking, class puzzles/locks as well as some neat technology gimmicks. We completed the game with a minute and a half to spare. We really want to return to do Project X!!
